Running Windows XP at the moment on my Franken-Machine, I have Ubuntu 10.0 in a partition but a WUBI bug is making it assy to use. I can't access data on the drive that I installed the Ubuntu partition on, which also happens to be my main data drive.

Going to upgrade to W7 on my new computer, with a Linux distro on a seperate drive. I like Ubuntu but can't help but think it's a tad ugly at points.

No. You misread what I wrote. Apple was the easiest to hack two years in a row. It was easier to hack than Windows. Actually, Windows did okay...for a Microsoft product.

And no, Macs are nothing like Windows with the ability to geek. I could go into detail, but I feel I have just proven myself far too nerdy already.
Uh... yeah well if you want go ahead. I have always been a windows user, and am just now picking up this Linux stuff so. I might ask him later about the whole hacking deal but I'm fairly sure he just uses it because he just flat out doesn't like how Windows works, the crapware they include, IE as opposed to Safari, etc etc.
Hahahaha your uncle isn't much of a propellarhead if that is his problem with Windows v. Apple. I had an inkling that you/he are/was a charlatan from the initial comment, and this was significantly increased when I read "he just likes Macs because its basically Windows with the ability to geek out when you want to". You and/or he, sir, do not know what you are talking about.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I meant to take issue with your use of the Apple created and Microsoft copied bullshit idea that one is whatever type of OS they happen to use. It is embarassing and you should find something a bit more important to define yourself. I use Windows, I have also used Apples, and dabbled in linux but I haven't had the time to get to grips with it. Next summer's project will be turn a decrepit old laptop into a my-first-linux learning machine.
God damn, someones is a fucking scrooge. We're sorry if we are not all amazing techies. Sure I will admit that I have near zero idea what I am talking about myself, but you're just being a presumptuous asshole by taking what I said and judging others by nothing but my own lack of an understanding on his preference. I have no idea how vast your knowledge is on all this, but if your so high and mighty with computer knowledge rivaling Einstein's ability in physics or w.e, you sure are showing it with that attitude you're having.

Have a happy New Year!

I'm messing around with Puppy Linux at the moment. Have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on the same laptop, but it's quite slow due to old hardware. Puppy's lightning fast, though.

Only problem I have is installing a driver for my wireless card. It's been driving me nuts these past few weeks.

I am not a huge fan of Linux, but I have never used anything other than Windows.
I'm happy enough having everything work out of the box on my pc, though if Linux had more compatibilty with games I would probably give it a whirl.

Currently a happy user of Windows 7 Professional. I play PC games a lot, and like to do so with minimum hassle, so I can't see myself using anything other than Windows.

There's no need to apologise for not being an amazing techie, there's nothing wrong with that. It comes through in what you say about the operating systems. As for judging your uncle, perhaps I didn't make it clear enough with my use of slashes that I meant either you and/or him don't know what you are talking about, so if the ignorance is entirely on your part, I make no judgement of him (except that which I make about most Mac users until they prove otherwise). I'm not that high and mighty, it doesn't take a talent for computing rivalling Einstein's in physics to recognise some of your errors.

Happy new year to you too!
Alright, I can respect the fact that you are insulted/annoyed by the fact I try to talk big when I know quite little about the actual skeleton of linux, windows. and mac. I find myself annoyed in the same way when I see guys who have skied or snowboarded for a few years try to act like they know it all, as I have been doing the former for quite some time now.

However, you could be a little nicer. I'm just saying, just because you think it doesn't mean you have to say it. And even though you do have the anonymity of the internet on your side, it's just bad practice to go around bashing people for their ignorance in the manor that you just did. The fact that it is the forums doesn't count. It's just a general human attitude I believe you could do with improving a little. I am not one to judge, but that reply earlier was just straight up jackass.

Well that's that, don't want the thread jumping to the morality of humans now do we? Back and forward banter insulting the other on threads is never fun... I will indeed try to have a happy new year... my resolution being to learn as much as I can about Linux, and perhaps take a basic programing course to apply that knowledge. I suggest you try to be a nicer person on the internets :D
