The main reason though? While the world sucks at times and I will complain about whenever possible, it is still a world of free will. There being bad in the world is what highlights the good and makes it feel all the better.
If you got rid of all the bad, even if it was just the massive evil's, then people would eventually come up against this power effecting their free will.

You can't have good without bad. You just gotta focus on the good and only briefly deal with the bad.

Do we honestly need the bad to make it more exciting? (I was reading the past posts.) I mean surely people can still have fun without the negative traits like e.g. no more car accidents from drunk driving or do you really like being insulted by a kid online in a fps game? Or are we talking about the utopia future in the film Demolition Man in that cursing and kissing is illigal? (With that I can understand about.)
I can get it's without evil there is no good but still.

OT- I would say yes but depending if I can choose when I where I get erased. I don't want to leave the worlds with regrets.

He's sort of a jerk and he's saying people have the right to kill, rape, and steal. Oh, also that people born into impossible odds (orphans in sub-Saharan Africa) are thankful for their freedom to try and fail, as opposed to the tyranny of the situation being fixed by an outside force.

Basically, you'd be preventing people from doing anything which may have negative impact on anyone else ever, which is the removal of free will. Everything would be exactly the same, and nothing would ever be done.

Even though I live my life with the thought: "To be forgotten is worse than death" I would make the sacrifice. Something inside of me just knows the benefits of billions out way the benefits of one. Even if that one, is me.

Kinda agree with cursed here even if I consider it more a misguided naive move then a dick one.

More worryingly, this could be the single largest silent genocide in the history of the universe, think of all those people who exist in the current timeline suddenly never existing as time rewinds and decisions that led to these people's birth would never have happened.

By a funny coincidence watched a Dr Who episode last night (flesh and stone with the weeping angels), and some soldiers in it get entranced by a rip in the space time continuum, so the sergeant sends his men to investigate 1 by 1, each time the soldier sent gets absorbed by the tear and is "unmade" so for the other soldiers it is like he never existed and the sergeant kept sending more men, forgetting he sent the previous ones as they never existed. Then it's just the doctors companion (who can remember the previous soldiers due to being speshul) and the sarge, the companion desperately trying to remind the sarge that he sent 4 of his men to die already, whilst the sarge replies "What men? It was always just us 2. Now stay here, I will go to investigate, i'll be back in 2 minutes, i promise..." I found that rather freaky (incidentally first DW episode ever for me ^^ can see why people reccomended that episode so highly) and the fate of those men to be extremely cruel.

I wouldn't. Humans aren't worth it. Well majority of them anyway, so weak and stupid. They deserve all the suffering they get and then some. Specially rich and famous people and the clones that follow them.

NinjaDeathSlap, that is possibly the best thing I have read on this site. Also Zephyer, doesn't not sacrifcing yourself make you far worse then these people you hate. I would prefer to be stupid, weak and kind then a unhappy, selfish jackass if it came down to it.

I would definitly sacrifice myself for this. I'm under no illusion that I'll do something memorable anyway, the odds of that are highly unlikely. I'm fine to give up my presence and be content knowing I did good, even if no one else knows about it.

Absolutely. Even if I couldn't partake in it, seeing everything going to so well and happily would keep my spirits up. Wouldn't be easy, but it'd be a worthy sacrifice.

No because as someone else pointed out the whole way to end all human based suffering would be to take away freewill. If someone no longer has the choice between doing good or evil, then it's not excatly morally good because there was never a bad. By wiping out the existance of all things evil the good things become a little less good, because there's no real oppesite to them.

EDIT: Also, there are somethings that lie in a moral grey area so what happens to those?
EDIT 2: Just one more point, wouldn't you have to erase the knowledge of evil or something to that affect?
Or perhaps make the entire world the same, you know so we all agree on everything?

Nope, and I have 2 reasons why:

1. In my opinion, humans are propelled forward by suffering and pain. Our world is flawed, and we strive to improve it. For ourselves, for others, whoever- the point is all we really work for is to improve life. If life were perfect, I'd say that a large part of what it means to be human would disappear. I know that, being an upper-middle calss teen who's never starved before, I'm being kinda hypocritical, but that's my point of view in life.

2. I'm hella selfish. I love life. A lot. It ain't amazing, but I sure as hell am thankful for all I have (I consider myself very, very lucky). I am not giving this up for a philosophically dubious cause.

I'd do it for my friends and family. Even if she couldn't remember me, there's a certain friend of mine, whom I really care about, whom I want to see happy no matter what... If it solved every problem, it'd solve her problems too.

So, yes. I'd gladly give up my entire existence for the people I love.

I definitely wouldn't say you're selfish for wanting to keep your own life.

Living as a human where every single person is satisfied would be too strange, and almost too hard to comprehend. There would be nothing to work for. Human emotion, probably the most significant feature of what makes us a unique species, wouldn't exist with the exception of the emotion of happiness. I wouldn't even be able to decide if this change would be for the better or worse unless I experienced it? But then again, of course it's always going to be for the better because I won't be able to feel anything else except satisfaction and happiness.

Suffering is part of the human existence, it from this that we evolve (culturally speaking.) Without pain and sorrow we will have nothing to strive for and I could not walk forever in this world, able to interact with it or not, knowing that I've ruined the meaning of our existence. (The mean in my opinion is to persevere, we are not the strongest, fastest, or environmentally adapted, we're just the best survivors and that is why we exist, to survive whatever comes our way.)

I have to say no for two reasons:

Minor reason - selfish desire not to be the only miserable person in paradise due to being completely alone and insignificant.

Major reason - I am a strong believer in Darwins survival of the fittest theory and by creating paradise without sacrifice you condemn the species to eventual extinction.

Your presented with a choice, Every single problem in the world today (War, Famine etc) will be solved over night, no one will ever be unhappy again and there would be no crime, But you get erased from history, Not killed - Erased. Everything you've ever done wont ever have happened (*Edit* Apart from making that choice, the world would still be fixed)and everyone who knew you would instantly forget you ever existed and to make matters better or worse depending on your outlook, you are still alive, but no one can see you or hear you, You can't intereact with anything or anyone, all you can do is watch the effects of your sacrifice. The question is, Would you do it?

Me, I'd love to say I would do it, for the good of everyone else.. but really, I know I couldn't.. Selfish maybe, But I dont want to die, and when I do eventually die the least I want is people to remember me, so no, I couldn't do it.

But doing that will doom humanity to cultural stagnation, and therefore ruin humanity as a whole. Because everyone has what they want, no new technologies, no more exploration, no anything.

this. i wouldn't do it because it would do more harm then good. everything improves from trial and error and overcoming problems. if you take them away then whats the point?
