Vaentines day
A notorious holiday that has pagued men for over 100 years. Every year gamers suffer sitting alone with noone to share their feelings with except their buddies or random strangers, and those who actuall do have significant others, they have to buy in to the rules of commercialism which states that you must buy exstravagent gifts or spend large sums of money to satisfy your significant other while the women typically do not have to do anything.
Men suffer pressures trying to find the perfect gift, which can often mean the difference between un-meanigful thankyou from the significant other, or them jumping on their loins in the evening.

Fellow Escapist,
Being one of the unfortunate gamers who had to buy into this commercialism, I feel i must bring this topic into discussion. Why do we buy into it? Why do we say it stupid, but in the back of our minds buy into the propaganda that is valentines day. Why do the single have to be the odd ones out, and why do thoses of us in a relationship buy into these demands?
Be glad you have to buy into the commercialism. At least you didn't have a fiancee and after 4 years she tells you it's over. Talk about your dreams being crushed. Starting over at 26 is hard, I don't care what anyone says. I just don't feel like I have all the time in the world left. I wanted to be married and have kids before I was 30. It plays on the psyche a little. I'd give up everything I have to get her back, so yeah, be lucky you get to buy into it all.

If single, it's depressing to have no one. But if you have someone, it's stressful/annoying/expensive to have to do something for him/her on a day that doesn't really mean anything.

That said, would rather have someone.

Ehhh. I dislike it. This year especially.

It's just a day.
It'd be a day like any other if people didn't exchange pointless declarations of love and romantic gifts in the hope of getting laid.

It's another day that doesn't matter. If I wanted to get laid I would go to a prostitute /sarcasm

But im with no one. I spend my days happy as a gamer and on here :)

Im a sad lonely sack of life aren't I?

Men suffer Valentines day?!? Last year I was given flowers by my sweetie and I nearly I flipped my top. He spent $120 on a freaking bouquet! That's 2 video games!!!

Obviously I thanked him and said how nice it was. But when he brought it up this year, I told him no more flowers. Just pick up Bioshock 2 and pre-order Heavy Rain. Then we'll both get what we want. ;)

No girlfriend.
No real thing you could call a crush.
No admirers I think.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT I got Bioshock 2.
I don't go crazy and kill someone because people seem happy to love eachother.
I know a couple who were quite mutual in what they did for each other.
In more ways in one......................
That's not to say I am not bitter like salt n' vineger

because love is a combo of lust and attachment (cookie for reference), at least presidents are real and have tangible effects. people are pissed because people turn into snooty assholes and act like assholes to other people who are not their mate.
Love also is followed by family day(seriously Febuary 15th in Ontario is family day) and what follows "love"? BABIES! Babies means more people, more people means that the next generation is created. The next generation created means we didnt fail at our purpose here woot!

So love does have a tangible effect, it's the annoying twats that shit their pants that we clean up.

All my friends went back to their hometowns for the weekend. I'm all alone in the dorms. There's strange sounds all around.

The only thing I can do is listen to the Doors and think on how I could beat my shyness.

I hate Valentine's Day, it just reminds me that I am 18 and 1/2 years old and I haven't even gotten my first kiss, let alone had a relationship with a girl.

My social life is non-existent
Don't worry, my life is the same, except i turned 18 last month. you are not alone.

Neither of us really care too much about Valentines day, probably just some chocolates, because hey, who needs an excuse for chocolates? Will save fancy dinners for nights that the restaurants aren't packed to the brim though thanks.

Blech. The thing I hate about it is the sense of entitlement girls/women get about getting gifts on Valentine's Day, like if you don't buy them a twelve dollar teddy bear on this specific date you somehow love them less.

I seem to hate everything romance and relationship related because (From what I've seen with my friends and parents) the girl/woman pretty much stomps all over your pride and sense of self-esteem, turning the man into a spineless jellyfish who only lives to please her. It's happened to all my friends, my sister does it to her boyfriend, and it's happened to my father as well, but that is just what I've seen. I know this is not true for all girls/women.

I wish there was a girl who thought like me, one who didn't engage in trivial emotional "Games" and only has mutual enjoyment in mind, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with any girl I meet. I refuse to "Play the game" just to get laid, I will not debase myself for something as shallow and meaningless as sex.

Well ,I will spend it watching zombie movies all day... so yeah, I'm gonna' say Screw yourself to the worthless rabble of those happy bastards locked in their endless cycle of sexual favor-giving, and instead opt for my own version of beauty. Guts and death.

How much more room is on that boat? I'm on it too and I'm sure were taking on more.

Same here. I'm sure I'd love it if I were to magically obtain one of these mystical Girl-Friends, but as for now, it's just another excuse for couples to rub it in my face.

That's a good question, why do you buy into this over commercialized crap? Even if I had a signifigant other I wouldn't buy into this stupid Hallmark "holiday".*sarcastic air quotes*

Why are we only complaining about valentines day? I complain about every holiday being a commercial ploy to get consumer expenditure to go up. I refuse to buy extravagant gives for birthdays and Christmas you know why? Because I only buy people gifts when I know they want it or need it. I don't have to wait for those days, I just go, "I know you wanted X, but you didn't have enough money, so I'll decided to get one for you while I was away." I told my closest friends that they need not think of buying a gift for me since I'd end-up feeling obligated to give them a gift and it just becomes a vicious cycle.

Valentine's day only hits home for me because I've never had a girlfriend.

We buy into it because we have to. Girls have boobs, which means they call the shots. End of story.
