I don't think it's necessary.

I have a fiance, and she loves it. (For the gifts...)

But I couldn't really care one way or the other. Just seems like it isn't needed.

Of course buisinesses have made it materialistic. Its what they do. And why last year I cooked at home for my gf. Now that was romantic.

For me its just another day where business squeeze pennys out of morons and another day for me to despise the human race more and more. Don't you just love love.

I couldn't even vote cause I couldn't make up my mind! It can be all those things!

When you get down to it Valentine's day is what you make of it. If you use it to spend time with loved ones, hating it cause you think it's dumb, ignoring it cause you forgot and it's not important to you, or celebrating it as an actual religious holiday, it's all up to you.

it is the most worthless and pointless days and it just makes having a relationship so much harder because you are expected to stay together for ages now but when you get dumped on valentines day 4 times it just makes you very depressed, like me.

It's just another day for me, it might mean something if I had a significant other to spend it with...

I like the sound of that. I get the urge when I see a couple holding hands or attempting to eat each other's faces. :}

I think its a blessing...

Yes, quite. Because you can't show your affection to your significant other any of the other 354 days of the year.

Yes... I do love this day a lot.

Its like mixing kittens and gummy bears... in a blender

Ahhh Valentines day

The worst day in the world to be single and unnattractive.
50% of that statement is true for me.

On topic: I usually hate Valentines day, and see little point in it. However, this year I'm going to attempt to do something so I might not resent it as much.

From what I've heard St. Valentine was a pretty cool guy, but I don't think that is what we are getting at here. It's not the day that matters.

A gaming website is probably not going to be the place to find any romantics, but yeah, I don't believe in it. Just another day that we're supposed to buy junk.
the second half of your statement is true its become too materialistic

Why does everyone sound so bitter?
This is the primary advantage of "being out of the game". That, and you get a lot more work done due to improved concentration.

Well, having being single since the day I was born (there, I've said it) I've not exactly had any terribly bad experiences around Valentines Day. I guess being single, I don't really have any reason to like or dislike it but I generally can't stand the thing, especially as I find myself constantly avoiding the garish displays of red and pink that emenate from every card shop and branch of Thorntons in the land.

Especially this year I really ain't looking forward to it. Being as this is the first time in well ever, there is actually someone I'm genuinely interested in and as Valentines Day is the traditional time for overblown romantic gestures. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a saturday (work makes the weekdays seem a lot shorter) so I can either take the risk of getting shot down in flames or just spend an exciting saturday evening on my own trying to keep the lonesome thoughts away playing Rock band or something. As I'm not the kind to sit alone and drink away my sorrows, really...:p

It's my second Valentines day with my boyfriend, and I'm dreading it.
He's already asking me what I want. Why should we have to exchange presents for one day of the year to show we love each other?
I honestly don't understand it. Love isn't about presents, it shouldn't be commercial.
It's in-your-face too, I feel sorry for all my single friends.
Gah, I hate it.

Unless he buys me a PS3, I doubt my opinion will be swayed.

February 14th serves one purpose for me, and one purpose only: it's my dad's birthday.

It's a commercial holiday to make people buy flowers, chocolate and balloons, it's lost all meaning.

Valentine's pisses me off to no end. Right around, oh, now every goddamned storefront is covered in pink and red hearts and ramming a message down your throat.

"HEY, YOU! YOU SHOULD BE PURCHASING THESE GOODS FOR YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER!"
"Once again Mister Storefront, I am single."
"THEN ACQUIRE A SIGNIFICANT OTHER! LOVE IS IN THE AIR, YOU MISANTHROPE!"

And that's the thing I hate about the day: love is not a 'this time of year' deal, love is a 'all year' deal. All having one day dedicated to it does is piss off single people, and put undue pressure on non-single people.

Just like every other celebration, it's been hideously commercialised. I've been largely single throughout my life (only one, short lived, relationship) and so I've not experienced the attempt not to burn all of your money simply because society says she'll dump you if you don't. As you might guess, I don't look forward to it...

On the other hand, of course, being single in February acquires a slight amount of extra poignance but otherwise doesn't change in the slightest; it still sucks! ;)

...Although, another excuse for New College to throw one of its insane parties is never remiss. I guess Valentine's Day has some kind of student use...
