They ruin my mathematics because I play instead of studying. But they help my science sometimes since I learn facts from Half Life 2. Also they very much help my in Lit class because they give me ideas for stories when I'm writing fiction papers (all the time) and I remember when we took our final on "Homer's Odyssey" and almost everyone failed except for me and like five other people, God of War helped a lot.

I have to say the amount of time I play computer games does detract from my study time, although I would just procrastinate in some other way anyway. HOWEVER, World of Warcraft, is a different plane of addiction. That game just destroys grades. I find FPS improve my reflexes greatly and some games improve mental agility, but most are mindless (ie mercs 2) and your mind goes into autopilot while you massacre millions...that said, games ftw. balance is the word.

Actually, for me, games increase my grades. No, they don't make me smarter (but there are games I've played that have made me do some research to see if some things could actually happen) but they help me relieve stress. If I didn't play video games, I would be a stressed out wreck, but because of them, I'm usually a pretty mellow guy.

statistically speaking video games sharpen hand-eye coordination. And while they dont promote a higher intelligence, video games can have a possitive impact on a person's personality(redundant). For instance, a person who vents their anger and frustration on virtual enemies in a video game will be far less likely to do it on a real living being, as opposed to the "great" Jack Thompson's ideals...

It's about prioritizing, and self-control. If I have work to do, I do it first and give myself time to do whatever I want later on.

During my end of year exam study period I bought Far Cry 2. I promised to myself not to open it until my exams were over, but I couldn't help myself. I did manage to keep it under control though, and I would study in the morning so that I could spend the rest of the day playing. I beat the game before the exams were over and I ended up scoring extremely well.

They have never affected my grades because I know how to prioritize and manage my time.

I just took two finals this week, on to my third tomorrow, and I'm sitting here typing this before I play another round of CoD5 online. We'll see if it affects my grades. Good thing all of my finals are open note.

Gaming has certainly hurt my grades in the past, but I've gotten better with the whole self-control thing. Making lists of what to study, planning out how much time it'll take, etc really helps with that.

I don't know, I've been gaming my whole life - before I was in school even so I don't have a way to test lol.

My university program is very demanding and I'll often forgo gaming for a month or two at a time due to the workload.

I find this thread kind of ironic, the bad spelling, the lack of punctuation and capitals, I think that games really can affect some people.

On topic, only if you spend your time playing them and not revising.

Games will only affect your grades if you play on them too much. Like it will only affect my work if I play on them to much.

Remember it's a hobby not a way of life!

My lack of responsability afects my grades... if it weren't games, it'd be stamp collecting for all I care. The activity if rarely the problem, usualy compulsiveness is sole enemy.

Hi this is a small question because my mom is yelling in my ear about why my grades are so horrible that I have c's and B's and should be getting A's but can't because I play games.

So what do you think do video games affect grades that much or at all?
Well one time i was told to do something like a "Saving Private Ryan" narrative in my english coursework and i didn't prepare at all

luckily it was war and due to COD4 i was able to make traummitizing yet KICKS ASS story it was so amazing that my english teacher was ridiculousy surprised on how much i knew about the horrors of war

but they still can effect your grades then agian "If you did some activity that stopped you from studying wouldn't that effect your grades" ?

Point is: Video Games are, and always will be, much more fun, and more amazing than school is.

No my grades are really good with the exception of Calculus which is a pain in the ass. The only reason my grades arent straight A's is that I really just don't care about school very much and spend most of my time messing around or daydreaming.
