Vampire definitely think of all the wacky powers vampires have, for example turning into animals, super strength, speed and reflexes, turning into mist, magic (sometimes), flight. the list could go on.
Also I live in the U.K where the weather is always crap, so I could go out in the day all I wanted.

Vampire.

No sunlight, no problem. I prefer the cool air of the night.

Depending on "version", you get all sort of cool powers too. Move faster than the eye can see, super strength, super regeneration capabilities, mind reading, hypnosis, creation of mindless undead servants and an assortment of "magic abilities".

As a werewolf, all you get is super strength and some regeneration capabilities. *yawn* That and I rather not turn into a hairy freak - I will probably smell too and get ticks.

Interesting definition of vampire. Most can't conjure up a cloud of darkness.

OT: I would go with Werewolf if it meant I was under control of my powers (like you assume vampires are). I like the sun and so forth, and I feel like a werewolf would be better in control of themselves. I also like shapeshifters.
Well, if no type is specified, I might as well go for the most awesome one. Most werewolf-people ain't going for the traditional 'terrible curse' or 'deal with Satan' types either.

Boring to repeat but whatever: depends upon the mythology. Being able to control werewolf transformation and not turn into a murderous killing machine once a month would swing it for me. However, the vampire who is only weakened by sunlight and doesn't have to live off blood would swing that for me... Lots of swinging.

Skyrim types - Werewolf. I can choose to go beast mode when I want to.
Traditional mythology - Vampire. I don't want to lose control and go apeshit just because the moon is out. I can become nocturnal if I have to.
Whatever the fuck Twilight is - Neither. I'll kill myself before I start to sparkle like an effing fairy.

Werewolf. Definitely. In my younger days though, I would have picked vampire.
Also, I just want to point out that a Lycanthrope is originally someone who suffers from a mental disease and only thinks he/she has changed into a wolf. Nowadays, the term describes werewolves.
The more you know.
I want to be like this werewolf:
think you maybe thinking of Lunatic not lycanthrope which is someone who has lyvanthropy which is the ability to transform into a wolf or take on wolfy traits which if memory serves is greek or asian mythology at root.

It all depends in which fantasy world we are living doesnt it, if were talking old school vlad tepis dracula stuff then vampire all the way, underworld id get hairy. white wolfuniverse hmm a ventrue or maybe a brujah prince would be a nice after life ;)

Already being a lycanthropic duck I'd have to go for vampire.
Maybe I could become one of those awesome hybrid things & hook up with Kate Beckinsale!

Despite my main world that I've built being highly anti-vampire, I'd prefer to be one.

But there's a whole line of specific requirements on various things before I'd allow it. Like minimal bloodlust (or a reliable source).
Sunlight isn't too much of an issue. Barely go out anyway.

I love the fact that people are presenting arguments over creatures which aren't really and there is a huge variation in how they function between different works of fiction. Many answer is simple, it realyl depends on what they actually are.

It strikes me as odd that a lot of people turn down Twilight vampires. They are essentially one of the best, aren't they - (almost) no weaknesses and great strengths. I mean, I would probably want to be one if they were real - who cares if I sparkle in the sunlight, if someone laughs at me, I'll be able to literally rip them apart in the blink of an eye.

What is it bad in that, exactly? Also, AFAIK, there are werewolves in Twilight (New Moon or whatever it's called), why aren't you turning down that choice?

I've always based my conception of vampires on Interview with the Vampire. The vampires in this series are so well-rounded. They're not simply mindless, immoral killing machines, but human beings 'blessed' with a terrible curse. Some lose their minds over time and become completely immoral, whilst others (the one played by Brad Pitt for instance, whatshisname) desperately cling to their human sense for compassion and value of life. But they are fragile, and thus sometimes slip into madness, only to slowly regain their senses after a decade-long mental breakdown in which they just killed and did as they pleased.

Also, none of the garlic, crosses, house entering bullshit. They simply experience deeper, more intense emotions and physical power (without being all 'emo douchebag' about it, I'm thinking about a more mature sense of feeling, like in the music of The National for instance), silverish grey eyes, extreme swiftness and agility and of course an insatiable bloodlust. I'd imagine losing all my loved ones over time would be terrible and traumatic, but you can always make friends with other vampires.(that last sentence was awful, I know)

Also, I'd like to keep having sex, but in the book and movie sucking blood is described as even more intense than sex.
So yeah, screw furries.

However, If I'd actually turn into one of these things I know I'd be one of those vampires that would just go absolutely bonkers after a decade or so and commit suicide. I'm human and I'd like to stay that way, thank you very much.

Being a werewolf would probably just about be the worst thing. There are like no benefits, especially if we're going with the classic uncontrollable transformation thing. Then who knows what kind of shit you're getting up to on the full moon, killing innocents, harming people you know, etc. Hell, even if you're of the mindset that "violence is cool," you're not conscious during the transformation so you wouldn't even know you did it.

Since Twilight, I would rather be Van Helsing or a Hunter from Supernatural and kill them both without mercy and then go after Stphenie Mayer for ruining them.

Dunno.

Most vampires have flying and/or lifelink, but werewolves get to transform during the next upkeep if no spells were played last turn, and only have to transform back if two or more spells were played.

So. Probably vampire.

Heh. That's my reference point for vampires too. Growing up in the 90s and all.

They have plenty of weaknesses, sunlight and fire is a no-no, and they are "monsters" but not mindless - regular humans are nothing more than food (or potential companions if turned) to them. I always figured that once turned, you are not quite the person you were before and will have lost the the aversion to killing others - Louis is an exception among vampires, but even he loses his "humanity" as time took it's toll on him.

That's what I implied. My post was basically a "Depends".
Depends on whichever lore happens to be true when presented.

Well, it's kind of hard to make a decision, because of the thousands of different ways said creatures are interpreted. Many of the things people in the thread say about vampires are completely different to the vampires I know of. I'd prefer to be a vampire because: no ageing, super speed and strength, regenerating, eternally beautiful, and able to adapt to the sun and blood lust. The vampires from stories that I read are just powerhouse bad asses.

Also: Too much hair on werewolves... I don't like dogs. The only kind of were-animal I would like is a Were-Husky. Cute~

It depends on how evil and dangerous the options are. I mean, if I had to be one and vampires weren't evil and had to kill people, I'd go for it because I like being me. Well... depends on the werewolves then, because I also really love food, and sunlight is pretty sweet, too.... Hrm...
Bah. If I ever was forced to be one of these things, I'd just take the one least likely to hurt others and find a silver lining. I mean, if I had to be a werewolf, I'd hate all the fur and being able to smell all the horrible smells of everything, but at least my toes would be adorable. And then as a vampire, at least I'd never have to worry about the dentist! Fuck yeah, supernatural dental plan!
