music: so we can whine about the state of the world
art: so we can complain in color
theater: so we can mock ourselves
speech: so we can argue incessantly
engineering: so we can build the tools to kill each other
philosphy: so we can point out the flaws in others
other: Dixie Cup. The Dixie Cup is made of epic Norris' Scale WIN. I mean, it's paper, yet it holds liquid! It's portable. You can take liquid everywhere!

Why is the first response always from the bashing guy?
How is that bashing? Mankind's greatest achievement is the moment I suplexed god.
oo, That what that was. -500 respect point form me, +1 fail.
Dude, You just made a repeat thread that repeated one that was on page two. Trust me, You are in no position to question suplex. Now go sit on the naughty step.

OT: Without engineering, We'd all be screwed. When you think of the technology involved in modern day life, It boggles your mind.

If you still dont believe me, Just watch "how its made".
Dude, nobody is ever in a position to question me.

speech is without a doubt the greatest achievement.
it gave birth to all other achievements.

music would be preference in the poll, but speech can't be denied.

By "art," I assume you mean paintings and such. Which means that you are almost completely leaving out storytelling. You have theater, but that is simply a type of storytelling: what about literature, spoken word, film, video games for that matter? I'm not sure I would consider storytelling to be the greatest, necessarily, but it's definitely above a lot of the other options, and yet is not there. I vote for the option.

Nothing Escapes Souplex. Nothing except why people find Dane Cook entertaining. It boggles the mind.

We can make pies, they will never cause fights or threaten to stab us. And they are very warm, comforting and delicious.

Though in all seriousness I'd have to say art, I like nice artwork (Not that dreadful modern art god no). Though it's very nice to see someone here with a positive view of the world, rather than all the mopey manic-depressives that so commonly roam these forums boldly stating that they hate the world and humanity.

All of these things are only relevant to our species, to say they have any meaning beyond that is absurd.

I'm gonna say math. Why? Because it's the most basic of all sciences (all science is based on math in one way or another if you get down to it). To take an example from the poll, if you want to take engineering far enough you're going to need math sooner or later (sooner if you do it right).

Philosophy comes second. I'd put it first if I wasn't being subjective here (after all, the first mathematicians were philosophers)

While I'm not downplaying the value of the more 'creative' poll options, as one poster mentioned earlier the only reason mankind has the option to spend so much energy on such things is because our lives have become so much easier because of our technological achievements.

I once read a rather interesting metaphor regarding the evolution of art (if you can call it that) that I feel compelled to share:

Renaissance art is the world seen through the eyes of the artist.
Impressionism is how the world looks after a couple of glasses of vin rouge.
Expressionism is the world after the whole bottle.
Vorticism is the artistic equivalent of leaving the pub, walking into a lamp post and calling it "Dave".
Modern conceptual art is what you find splattered all over cars, privet hedges and the artist's windows.
