Poll: What character archetype are you?

I always go for a Barbarian when given half a chance (most games these days have done away with them, in favour of more spells >:C ).

This way I can swing a huge weapon around, not have to worry about armour too much as I cant wear it anyway, and crash into huge groups and emerge victorious.

And finally my personal favourite laugh while main stream the mage complains that he has run out of mp, and cant cast any spells, whilst I merrily hack everything to pieces.

I'm the Rogue\Thief\Assassin\Ninja as I'm not the strong melee type nor do I like to use arrows or magic. I alo someone who valve speed which the Rogue valve too.

Well, I completely misunderstood this thread. By the title, I was under the assumption that the subject of the thread was more along the lines of picking a character class that closest resembles you in real life. As such, I voted for Other (Bard). With my winning personality and musical talent, there's really no other choice. Although I do like studying kung fu...

Regardless, as to the actual question, I don't stick to one type of character archetype when I'm gaming. Sometimes I feel like being a sneaky cutthroat who actively steals from the party. Sometimes I feel like being a giant of a paladin who pledges to defend innocent NPCs everywhere.

It really depends on what speaks to me for the given game and/or world setting. I usually start with a core story or gameplay mechanic that I want to use and expand from there. When doing table-top games, my choices can also depend on my fellow players. I like making characters that fit the group dynamic. In my core gaming group, we usually engineer characters as a group and have to come up with a tie to at least 1 other player in the campaign prior to the adventure hook (which eliminates the "random adventurers who just happen to meet and embark on a quest to slay an ancient evil" trope).

Most of the time, mage is too... aaahhh... boring to start with. >.> Torchlight II not withstanding.

I tend to play as a rogue or a wizard, mostly because both classes open up a lot of options for dealing with a situation.

I chose Mage but I try to be more like a Battle Mage rather than the "Squishy Wizard" type of Mage, usually because it encompasses both of my favorite archetypes (Warrior and Mage).

Depends on the mechanics of the game.

funnily enough ive played a combo of those two classes before, it was fun but a bit broken when you keep getting combat advantage with hand axes........
OT: i tend to multiclass alot but i tend to be the leader of the party sitting in the shadows pointing out weaknesses and shooting/stabing/blugening every thing that gets too close.

but yeah, like the OP said, combat support classes always sit right with me, since they share the frontline with the others and yet do more than just combat damage.

I like smiting dudes for Great Justice, so I usually go with a Paladin. Either that, or some kind of melee/ranged hybrid who mainly uses melee, complimented with a couple of ranged attacks, conventional or not.

If possible, I very much like to add some magic and stuff to spice up my ride, without breaking it completely.

Part of the appeal of RPGs for me is trying out all the classes.

It also adds a ton of replay value for me.

Mage, almost always.
It might have something to do with the fact that I've always been physically inferior but intellectually superior to my peers, and magic is pretty much weaponized intelligence.
Also, because it's so very cathartic how mages generally start out piss-poor but by higher levels they're practically gods incarnate (as long as no one gets close to them).

Warrior/Barbarian is almost always my favorite class. I like being able to do high damage while still being tanky enough to not have to babysit my health all the time. I like the ability to just run in to a group of enemies and murder all of them without a second thought.

I don't play games where most of those choices exist.

I tend to prefer playing the fast and agile kind of character who isn't particularly tough or strong, but wins because the enemy simply can't hit them.

Kind of like a rogue/thief/assassin, but the stealth part isn't all that important.

Call me old fashioned, but I usually end up going with a Warrior class. Swinging a sword or axe bigger than most of my enemies makes me feel safer. also if I can get someone to watch my back from range and give me buffs or healing when needed, I'm perfectly fine with tanking damage.

Its usually cross between Ranger and Paladin, with a bigger emphasis on Ranger. I will keep medium type armor and both pistols/assualt rifles[footnote]Usually both. If before assualt rifles, then SMGs. If before SMGs, Shotguns[/footnote] and swords/knives[footnote]I will carry both a longsword and a knife, but the knife is for last resort/sneaking. The Sword is what gets the most use of melee.[/footnote] for short range fighting but I prefer to split your head at long range rather than get in close.

I generally play ninjas, because I enjoy seeing my screen fill with a lot of criticals.
I also tend to play the "unique" types, because having a new way to play aside from the generic warrior/healer/ranger is always nice.
