These are the correct terms for Australia:

Fizzy (carbonated) drinks are called 'soft drink', or 'fizzy drink' as a general term. 'Fizzy drink' is a bit childish though.

Coca Cola's flagship drink-flavoured syrup dilute is called "Coke" for short.

"Soda" refers to soda water, which is just carbonated water.

Edit: while we're at it, you generally ask for a specific drink by brand name, "Sprite", "Solo", "Coke Zero" etc..

In Sweden, the all-around name for soda, pop, soft drink is "läsk" (Basically means 'quench' as in thirst-quencher or something)
Though, where I live it's mostly called "Dricka" (which simply means 'Drink')

Pop. True "soda" is mixed at the time of serving like in the old days. Syrup into a glass, then add the soda water, thus the name. To call a pop or cola "soda" is just inaccurate. Anything from a can/bottle is a pop, from a fountain is when it becomes soda.

Huh that's interesting. We call them soft drinks here too (Quebec). I thought that was unique to us; I didn't know Australians had adopted that as well.

Go out to other provinces in Canada, and you hear pop/soda.

Royal Crown Cola? no? Jolt Cola? no? A & W Root Beer? no? Hines Root Beer? no? Mug Root Beer? no? Goya Ginger Beer? no? Mr. Pibb? no? Tab? no? Squirt? no??"

I live in Massachusetts, and it's always been soda. Sometimes I'll call it by the brand name, but "soda" usually suffices.

For most of my life I referred to all sodas as Coke, because my grandfather was a sales manager for Coca-Cola and I didn't actively drink anything else until I got my first job at 16.

Since moving to Arkansas, I've gravitated towards calling everything but Root Beer "soda." Root Beer gets it's real name because it's Just That Awesome.

If we are talking about the actual drink Coke then Coke or Pepsi or whatever brand I am havibg. If it is something like generic Tesco brand then fizzy cola/orange/lemonade/etc. If I was to umbrella them I would call them soft drinks.
