Not sure why everyone cares about furries so much. I'm of the "do whatever the fuck you enjoy as long as you don't hurt people" mindset.

Uh, what?
Like I said in a previous post, there are some parallels between furries and gay people. Probably not what this guy had in mind though :p

Most furries/gays are just like normal people, they'll keep it to themselves unless it's appropriate and you wouldn't even know they were furry/gay unless they told you.

However you get the minority of furries/gays that are drama whores and like to tell every last person they meet just to stir things up or get attention. It's unfortunately these people that are a vocal minority and give furries/gays their negative stereotype.
I've never seen this. Ever. I think you're making this up.
You srs? xD

If so you've probably never seen it because the non-dramawhore types are usually indistinguishable from normal people. You couldn't pick a regular gay/furry out from a crowd unless you knew them personally.

What ever they do in the privacy of their own home is fine. But it isn't something that needs to be public.
This. So very, very this.

I don't care if you [censored] your [censored] inside her [censored] while [censored] [censored] [censored] a clown's [censored] while [censored] and an apple pie. It's just that I don't want to know about it.
Then why do you give yourself a name and hold it aloft? Surely what happens between one or more consenting adults doesn't really need multiple forum posts?

Incorrect, sir. I know a furry, and he has let know that it definitely isn't a sexual thing. In fact, he also said that you don't need an animal costume to be a furry.
What you did there, do you see it?

Me: "statistically a large proportion of this group are X."
You: "I know one person who isn't X (or says he isn't) and thus none of them are."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom#Sexual_aspects

As per every time I argue this, I have figures that back me up. Looks like out of every 5 furries 4 are jacking it, weird huh? Looks like maybe they don't want to admit to it but also want their fetish pubic.
EDIT: I know a furry, and he has let know that it definitely isn't NECESSARILY a sexual thing.

Better?

Exactly. I stumbled upon a furry TF2 server and didn't realize I was on one until I looked at the server name. It was probably more polite overall than your average TF2 server.

Every group has its attention whores. Deal with it.

It's something of a love/hate thing. There are things about furries that I greatly enjoy and then there are the things that make me utterly despise them.

And yet I am one. Go figure.

I've had years of experience dealing with weird/odd/different thinking people on the internet. Furries are no way the most annoying. The most annoying people I've ever encountered online are those on XBLA and PSN. They are completely devoid of any sort of mortality, common sense, proper speaking habits, and I'm pretty sure they aren't even considered human.

I personally view the world through a pair shit stained glasses that most people call cynicism. This means that when ever I meet a complete stranger I assume that s/he is hostile or is gonna try drug me, flay me alive, wear my skin, go to my house and slaughter my family; and because of that I have a rather indifferent stance when it comes to most fetishes. However when children or corpse are involved it's a different story.

Well... as the Leader of the Group of Furries here I must add this for relevancy purposes to your thread.

The common Anti-Furry comments "Yiff in Hell" or "Kill with Fire" always confused me. Many online always will be quick to fire that one at us and in the past it had some weight to it but now many furries laugh at anyone that says that to us or just say That?s all you got? The fandom has grown and so all those that are apart of it so comments like that just bounce off of us.

I know in the past when the fandom was still kinda young we have had a bad history of coming off as "Easy targets" or easy to drama. That was in the past and as someone who has been in the fandom since the early 90's the fandom is changing a bit to a more mature mentality. There will be always drama in many fandom's and I can't say there won't be that one furry that will make us look bad; but I can safely say The Furry Group here are calm, cool and level headed.

The Sexual Fetish thing (which I'm going to assume Sex in Fur suits is what everyone think's) is kinda over done and getting old. Yes there are those that have sex in fur suits but not all in the fandom do that, I haven't personally meet a furry yet that admits to it have committed any sexual acts in fur suit.

You gotta remember "Furry" to many is a hobby and people will commit and pay for there hobbies. Some fur suits take a LONG time to make and can be expensive; so many furries will be quick to protest if someone gets near there suits with a cup of juice that might spill on them so having sex in a fursuit is HIGH on the "Do not DO" list. The Fandom is not full of Sexual Deviants or Perverts. We have modern Media and misconceptions to thank for that.

The Furry Fandom is really an Interest, a hobby, whatever you want to call it and just like any large group of people with common interest we have those that stand out. And of course those that stand out do so because of something attention getting or hateful;

1 Drama Filled, Loud Mouthed Furry makes better Internet Bait than 100 Relaxed Calm Furries.

I can safely say The Furries of the Escapist only aim to provide a place for furries to meet and enjoy each other?s company. We are a diverse group and well rounded for any community that are no strangers to good moments and bad; just like anywhere else. If you give us a chance you?ll be welcome Furry or Not and NO we won?t try to convert you or whatever.

I'm kind of confused on why there still is or has been a level of Hate and Scorn against furries. It seems many of those on the internet that go out of there way to post something hateful or post hateful pictures have had a Furry do something personally wrong to them IRL; and I?m sure that is not the case.

I really can't change the nay sayers hell bent to express there general hate; but I can only offer a peaceful "paw" to other furries and a hand of understanding to those that aim to avoid us or not be apart of the fandom. Your Furry, Your furry! Welcome. If not that's cool... Let's move on and talk about something else.

TL; DR Version -

Furries are just people that share a common hobby; in our case it's animals or something about animals. We are not the drama filled fandom of the past. Though I can't speak for EVERY Furry in the fandom our group aims to destroy the negativity in our fandom. Were all about peace, enjoying life and trying to support one another; just like any good community of people.

It's just a choice Like Likeing Poines; If you Like it; LIKE IT. We shouldn't need a HUGE debate over Why or over the details.

I don't like them in the individual sense. I have never been in a situation where this topic would come up so my entire individual experience with furries is them throwing out this information with no reason. I'm sure there's some cool furries but I won't be in a situation that that information would come up.

"IM A FURRY" and I don't care, what you are is a jackass for just shouting about your sexual inclinations randomly. And one time this kid actually growled and barked at me, but I'm more inclined to think he was just an idiot than a furry.

As a group? Whatever floats your boat. If you wanna play pretend in a mascot outfit and hump some other people in mascot outfits go for it. Just realize that you aren't a dog or whatever you dress up as. You're a person in a suit, I wish I was a Vulcan but you don't see me wearing pointy ears and shaving my eyebrows and announcing to the world that I'm a Vulcan.

Furries are the punching bag of the internet. Most people think we're flaunting a fetish the same way someone might wear BSDM gear in public, but it's really not like that. Being a furry means being part of a fandom, the same way people who like anime are part of a fandom (and last I checked, there's plenty of anime fetish fuel out there too).

Too bad that every time someone makes a thread like this a lot of people just post and don't read. They might learn something (say it ain't so!)

I kid! I kid. :p

OT: Yay...not.
Each man to his own thing.
Some are really, really good people who just like that stuff and others are just really, really werid.
Kinda like life, if you think about it.

Well...I am one so I find it perfectly legitimate.

There's some stuffs about the fandom that get a tad annoyin. The loud and proud group (well really...every loud and proud group. Whether its based off of race, orientation, etc...all of em just need to quit it) can get really obnoxious. I get their motivations, but really they're not helpin the image of furries at all. Luckily most people either ignore them or try to get them to calm down so yay.

I mean...its perfectly acceptable to be proud of what you are. If someone asks why you have pictures of anthros plastered all over your background never be ashamed to say why, but like...shoutin at people about it just makes you look like a ass. And before someone jumps on me about it, I do not generally consider fursuiters to fall into that category of jackassery. Though that may because I find them to be either adorable or beautiful...heh.

On a related note, sadface that I'm gonna miss Anthrocon. One of these days I shall meet all my favorite webcomic artists!

The Furry culture is just like any other Geek/Nerd culture, it's vast, varied, and full of complex rules and mores. I really despise people who bash on furries because more often than not, that same person has their own goofy or weird club they belong to so its Pot/Kettle scenario.
Me, I enjoy certain aspects of the Furry culture, I doubt I'll ever don a fur-suit(at least not for sexual purposes) but I have no problem with people who do.
