Good point. I forgot those console gamers don't have keyboards to type with. Or fingers, only thumbs for waggling thumbsticks.Doom972 said:Is it common for console gamers to use gaming forums? I thought it was more of a PC-gaming thing.
Seriously, I'd put it down to pc gamers as a whole being more into the gaming scene on forums. That's going to be the biggest factor. Oh, and don't believe sales stats, they never include digital. EA usually makes around 30-40% of its income from PC, as do actiblizzard. Another funny fact, for pc to have sold 14% every pc gamer online on steam (and it wasn't required to be so, offline is fine) would have to have been playing around a minimum of 6 hours of Skyrim every day for over a month to achieve the concurrency stats on steam. Sales figures don't work for PC, stop paying attention to them. I adore the idea that people went through the trouble to fix the poll though. How's the tinfoil hat?KingsGambit said:Good point. Anyway, The Escapist is not a small gaming community. There are many others but 3.5x the number of PC gamers than console gamers just cannot be accurate of either this community or gamers as a whole. If there were truly so many of us, why aren't there more threads on gaming hardware, renderers, mods, trainers, wishing for better UIs, lamenting how games development is 4 years stunted and other things that affect us?
This is the tragic truth [http://www.statisticbrain.com/skyrim-the-elder-scrolls-v-statistics/] of gaming. This game more than any other is optimal on PC. Yet it was developed for consoles, ported to PC and only 14% of us bought it on that platform. We don't even get more than 8 hotkeys as standard, that's how lazy they were in porting it to PC that they couldn't be arsed to unlock the use of 9 and 0.
That game sold only 14% of total sales on PC, that is why I cannot for a second believe that we outnumber consolers 3.5 to 1 when they out-buy us (unarguably at greater cost for inferior product) by 6 to 1.
This poll is a lie or the people who voted PC are liars, not really gamers softwarepirates. Or the 15ng sole gamers are batting away furiously with their stumps-for-hands, unable to click a mouse button, nor have their mewling cries understood as they asked someone to vote for them. Or possibly held hostage by the OP in an effort to fool the industry into returning to making games for the eminent platform.
I didn't say that they can't use forums, just that I think that it's more of a PC-gamers' habit.KingsGambit said:Good point. I forgot those console gamers don't have keyboards to type with. Those stats are provided by Bethesda, Zenimax and Steam. In the case of Skyrim, it uses Steamworks for activation, copy protection, patching, DLC, Steam Workshop, etc. Every single PC copy of Skyrim bar none, bought and installed by PC gamers is registered on Steam.Doom972 said:About sales figures: These never include Steam, so I consider them irrelevant.
While Skyrim is a Steamworks title, only the physical copies are taken into account in sales figures. Valve doesn't release Steam's sales figures, as part of their policy.KingsGambit said:Those stats are provided by Bethesda, Zenimax and Steam. As another member mentioned earlier, this website, regardless of what you apparently want to believe, doesn't represent the gaming community in its entirety. This place might have a PC bias, while another forum might have an X-Box 360 bias, etc.KingsGambit said:This poll is a lie or the people who voted PC are liars, not really gamers or software pirates.
You don't have to upgrade a PC all the time to 'play' the newest games better than a console doesosric90 said:I use an Xbox 360. I have owned a PS3 but didn't like it, and I cannot afford to keep upgrading my PC/Laptop to run the newest games.
Yeah, but thankfully it's rarely the DLC that matters.Mimsofthedawg said:As long as you have fun, that's all that matters.osric90 said:I use an Xbox 360. I have owned a PS3 but didn't like it, and I cannot afford to keep upgrading my PC/Laptop to run the newest games.
What didn't you like about the PS3 out of curiosity?
Outside of Halo, I hate the 360. I don't like their online system, I don't like their GUI, I don't like any of their exclusives, and I think it's overpriced for what you get.
And I'm really angry that they get all the DLC first... lol. O![]()
Exactly, hence why we know concurrency rates, and how 14% is physically impossible due to concurrency rates. Tell me how 280k players can be playing skyrim on PC at once in the first week most of the time when Skyrim only sold around 7m copies in that week. What you're saying is that at any point during the first week, one in three people who owned skyrim on PC were playing it. At any point in the day. That's an insane number of people considering timezones ect.KingsGambit said:Those stats are provided by Bethesda, Zenimax and Steam.
