I'd say I probably come somewhere between:
I'll try for 100%, but I'll prolly give up before then as monotony sets in
At 100% I'm not done 'til it's over

The two games that come to mind are Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
Funnily enough, on the first playthrough of each, I gave up before I got all the achievements, but I recently borrowed Blue Dragon off a friend and got 100% on it, and right now I'm working on getting 100% on Lost Odyssey. Last time I only had four or five achievements to go, some of the immortal Skill Masters, and Treasure Trove, the latter being the reason I gave up, believing it'd stop me from ever getting 100%. But not this time, I've promised myself that much.

In the old days - Once I'd beat it on the hardest difficulty.

Nowadays - As soon as I see something happening that I've seen done at least twice before.

Usually, I'll just finish it to the end and maybe play it again once in a while, but if its good enough, I'll play it over and over until I'm completely bored with it or I finish at 100%

Er. . . pretty much never. I go back and obsessively look through every obscure nook and cranny, or impose weird challenges on myself, like playing through Oblivion while lugging around as much of a human skeleton in my inventory as the game will allow, or finishing Arkham Asylum without buying any upgrades, on the hardest difficulty. Or replaying Prince of Persia because the Prince is really hot.

I am not very much into multiplayer (I love co-op but good PC co-op games are rare) and I am not very into FPS games so I tend to play most games a bit later (Mass Effect 1y later, currently playing through it again etc) I try to get most things done in the game before I put it down and I revisit my games very often.

Depends what game. Purely linear story missions have roughly the replayability of a movie, and achivements aren't enough to keep me interested. However good sandbox games like Oblivion... Well I may never stop playing until a sequel comes out that effectively builds on the game I like.

I seldom play any longer than to the end, but if the game is really good, I often find myself trying to get 100%.

Lost Odyssey is a good example of how I play games. I really liked it, and was really enthused with playing it for a while, but at some point on disc 4 I just...stopped. Couldn't be bothered that day, or whatever, and then the same the next day, and the next...

Then I got Arkham Asylum like a week later, and started playing that instead. Since then, I've only put LO in my disc tray once, and I spent about an hour trying to get the Backyard Battle achievements, and then decided I'd do it later. I will get it finished when my attention comes back to it (it always does, with games - I've been on the last part of the Fallout Broken Steel DLC for months. I played for an hour at the weekend, did the second-to-last mission and again, haven't touched it since), because I hate trading in games before I've completed them. The only one I've done that with is Gears of War 2, since it was so dull and repetitive that I couldn't force myself to play it anymore.

This poll should have an option for "I play a game at totally random intervals, when I get a longing for JRPG/shooting people in the face/driving about robbing banks, and the rest of the time I ignore it" :p

Usually, I'll play to the end of single-player, but generally open-world games get my attention for playing them again. I don't know why, but getting into gigantic fights with guards in Assassin's Creed once I finished the story was fun as hell.

i tend to stop playing a game when goofing off in the game is more fun then playing the game properly, if say jumping up and down on a corpse for 8 min is more exciting then continuing, it's time to bury it in the backyard

As detailed as the answers are, none of them resonate perfectly with me. I'm not exactly the "Try but never reach 100%", but I guess it could be said just the same, because I either finish the game completely and keep replaying it (Mass Effect), or I just binge on the game until I can't stand the sight of even the genre or its subgenres (Fallout 3).
This is true for me too. I definitely do some genre binging.

"Just cos the games finished doesn't mean I can't go back and enjoy the bits I loved on a semi-regular basis"
was my answer.
But it depends on the game. Eternal Sonata was ragequit with 30 minutes, Prototype a few days after I started playing it, Mass Effect is gathering dust...

On the other hand, I'm playing through Final Fantasy 7 for the 4th time, I recently reinstalled Oblivion for my third playthrough, and CoD: Modern Warfare is booted up on the ps3 almost every night.

Today's games...about half the game. Usually the plot stales and/or advancements stop coming.

I usually play until I beat it, but if it stops being fun, I take it back to the store.

Case and point:

The first real game I bought for my Wii was No More Heroes, seing as many critics liked it, as well as numerous gamers.

It was boring as fuck.

Even after a game gets boring, I still try to go through the story and complete the game, just to make sure I had seen everything worth seeing. With that game, I felt little compulsion to do that. It was so phenominally dull that I couldn't stand playing it anymore, and so I traded it for Super Mario Galaxy. It was a very wise trade, which is rather funny considering I've never been a Mario fan.
