As long as Mario can pull it off, and as long as there are fans for Final Fantasy, it will live like an undead zombie.

You mean when they will keep their promise about it being "final"? Who knows hopefully soon or im going to sue them for flagrant false marketing.
The reason it is called "Final Fantasy" is because the first game in the IP looked to be the last game made by Hironobu Sakaguchi because the studio he was working for was stopping funding on his games. It's huge success came as a surprise, but with it being as huge as it was he was able to continue the IP.

going back and replaying through the complete originality of VI, and remembering the good times for IX, they shouldn't stop, if they can just keep up a quality of good, solid, diverse fun, then why do they need to stop?

I am quite seriously willing to bet never. So long as they keep making money Square Enix will keep churning them out.

same with alot of you i dont think it will ever stop because each game they bring out well near enougth each game they bring out they have new set of characters new story and different setting. so there story the should be able to keep fresh and the games should be tottally different and a fresh look on the genre and the tittle even though i know they wont because it will be prattically the same game. just with a new whinney teenager a big evil bussisness that is trying to inslave the world or make a masive weapon. and as the whinney teenager travels he meets other whinney teenagers and then they go to destroy the evil corperation the end

wrote the next final fantasy game free -.-

Why should they?
Every series has to end.

They have had what 12, 13 of these games now?

IMO, they need to stop at say 15. Its a good number to wrap things up.
There are actually about 30 if you count Tactics and Online.

When it stops making SE money, plain and simple. Final Fantasy is a brand, and the name Final Fantasy can pretty much be tacked on to any JRPG if you think about it. As long as the games maintain a level of good quality and the stories stay interesting and entertaining I have no reason to give up hop. Yes the series has had a few turds in it's collection, but it's a series that is as old as most gamers, being 20 years old and all. Excluding remakes and ports, there are over 30 games that bear the Final Fantasy name, this series won't die until it stops being profitable. I won't be surprised if we ever see FFC (100 for all you roman numeral challenged), actually...I'd laugh.

As long as the games sell, they'll be around. I'm guess they'll continue long after my death. I hope so, really. Unless I die in the zombie apocalypse. If they keep getting made after that, something's wrong.

I don't think you'd be old enough to see it as far as that. If it takes twenty years to make around 15, imagine the time to make 100.

The bigger question is why the hell do they have to keep calling these games Final Fantasy? They have almost nothing to do with each other. The only thing you see in all of them is chocobos, airships, and the fact that their money is called gil.

They'll never stop making Final Fantasy games until people start getting fed up with all these different worlds that have nothing to do with one another all bearing the same game title. I know this has been said already, but it's true. They'll keep on burping out new games called Final Fantasy with increasingly massive numbers stuck on the end and no connecting storyline until people stop buying them.
