The sad thing is that many times co-op turns into a competitive game. Like in L4D, one guy wants all the kills and ignores the others.

I prefer Co-op, ESPECIALLY when playing one-on-one. If there are many people playing i like to play competitively, but in smaller groups I think it's much more fun to co-operate and play together.

I think games like COD4 are a good balance of playing together as a team but getting to rip another team to shreds :D

I like Co-Op more then competetive. Co-Op is just so much fun if you're teaming up with some friends to beat the living shit out of the AI. Competetive is also fun, but Co-Op just has that "us versus them" thing which you don't get in competetive (imo).

Competitive when it comes to shooters and party games, co-operative for pretty much anything else. There are exceptions to both but this is basically it.

I prefer competitive team games.

I don't like shooting AI, it doesn't feel half as satisfying as fragging a real person.

Deathmatch in Halo 3 with roommates and other mates on XBox Live is pretty fun, but I will choose Co-op, because alone I am fucked in Team Fortress 2.

Competitive, cooperative tends to get boring incredibly fast. Especially in Left4Dead and World at War.

Co-op because I suck at competitive.... Unless it's battlefield. I'll play that over any multiplayer game. But usually co-op.

Cooperative. Only then you can enjoy playing with friends, you have to help each other to defeat something. It can really be great fun.
But aren't there competitive cooperative multyplayers? In TF2 you have to keep together and help each other (cooperative) to fight against other team of online players (competitive). Same goes to L4D when your playing against zombie online players.

Lately, it's been co-operative multiplayer: While I personally believe that humans are much more formidable opponents than any AI algorithm created, it's the sense of accomplishment you get when going through a co-op mission in ARMA 2 that's even better than having a kdr of 3:1 + the highest score (which means I wasn't just playing tdm, I was 'running the bomb' too) in an objective base multiplayer of CoD4 delicious sabotage.

That said, Modern Warfare 2 Spec-Ops, Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2, ARMA 2 co-op, that's a lot for 2009 I think, and that's just awesome.

Why is there no "all of the above" option? Some games are more enjoyable when played cooperatively while others are more enjoyable played competitively. And yes, there are even games which do not benefit from multiplayer at all and where developers efforts are better spent on the singleplayer experience.

Co-op. But I dislike people who try to merge the two, thus watering down competitive, and fucking up cooperative.

Although really, it depends on my mood.
