Poll: Which Genre has the worst games?

Sports games hand down, I think they just suck and I can prove it!!!
They spit out a new game every year just to keep you entertained, indicating that it has no replay value.

I like playing basketball and soccer, but when I played it on a video game, I hated it.

MMO's, they only got one good one, every other MMO has just been a clone until just recently. But the ones that aren't clones are shit... well, at least not nearly as good. and if you dont know what MMO I'm talking about then GTFO the escapist.

RPGs, mostly of the J description. There are some excellent ones, but it has frequently gone wrong, and when it has it's gone so so wrong.

That's a loaded question. The quality of games is subjective (shut up, it is) so and since people who have one genera they like (or don't like) tend to like the games in it for a certain feature that is fun to them all the games in that genera are games they will probably like even if others say they suck. On the same note if there is something in one genera people don't like they will hate the whole genera because every game will have that thing. This doesn't boil down to what genera has the worst games so much as "what genera do you not like." You're not going to get anything useful out of the question. Not to mention that people only have partial expose to most genera since people will mostly play games from their favorite genera and not have a lot of background on generas they don't like since playing games they don't like from a genera they don't like would be dumb.

They have only had one good series, Civilization. I never did care for starcraft.

Civilization is turn based.
And the thread is about the worst game in the genre, not the genre you couldn't get into.

Edit: I also forgot to add something for discussion.
For me it would be racing genre. I like a lot of racing games (road rash,NSF MW etc) but some of them just aren't enjoyable.
All the other racing games do is make some tricky tracks and tell the player to reach the end of it first.
Almost no racing game has evolved from the basic principles of the genre.

Bu the worst of all is... Anything involving motion control. All of those games I find really lame.

To not be trite, Third Person Shooters. The problem is that the tools and expertise needed for making these are widely available, so every year, we can see at least 30 A-games shaped after the uncreative and insipid figure of cover based third person shooting oublished by companies who'd rather not take a risk and just make something that will put food on the table, then get lost in the tide of generic and bland garbage.

...because you're not a fan. As an RTS fan, I can safely say there are PLENTY of good RTS out there. You are aware there are more RTS in existence than Starcraft, right?

OT: MMORPGs, easily. That is assuming you count free-to-play-but-filled-with-micro-transactions MMO's to be "real games". If not? Then I nominate movie games/ games based on a pre-existing license to be there own sub-genre.

EDIT- Apologies to you Sober, apparently you've already admitted that you are aware of more RTS than starcraft. Good for you, I suppose.

Bad Gameplay: Geometry War shooters, seriously there are only so many times i can play a game like that before it gets boring

Gotta go with RTS. I haven't found a decent one that kept me interested since Age of Empires 2. The Civ series keeps me going but it isn't really an RTS, as mention several times above.

I respect your opinion tho, and will say (as I stated in another post in this thread) 40k games are fucking awesome! I should probably mention that in my first post....

....What? I think you should really re-read that post of your's I quoted. You said "you never did care for starcraft" and then go on to say there has never been a good RTS. You just called every RTS a starcraft clone, and then call out ME for not respecting your opinion? You were stating your opinion as fact, mate. Though I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to poor wording.

That includes the Total War games, the Warhammer series, Age of Mythology, Age of Empires 2, World in Conflict, Homeworld, etc, etc, etc?

OT: I never liked racing games to be honest.

Ah yes, 40k is damn good. Nice call on that one.

But still, I can name more than one game/series from any other genre that I liked. For racing games, Burnout 2 was good fun, Forza and Project Gotham were good ones too.

One game in the genre doesn't make me change my mind. Since the thread is about having to pick, I still pick you RTS.

Oh well, RTS isn't for everyone. Though I must admit, it hasn't really changed at all in the past years. But I wonder, how could it? For me it isn't that bad.
I didn't like racing games at all, I never found them fun.
But now that I think about it, neither RPG. The only RPGs that I have liked are Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, System Shock 2, and that's practically it.

Ah, yes, Bloodlines. One of my favorite games. Did you try also Escape from Butcher Bay? I really liked that game, for me one of the best licensed if not the best one around. Also, Vampire was based on a pen and paper RPG right? Wouldn't WH40K also be on the list?

Like I said, "...I have played." The ones you mentioned I have not.

However, yes, Vampire and Warhammer 40K are based on a pen and paper game and a tabletop/pen and paper game respectfully.
