Hands down, Snape. One of the most tragic characters I have ever encountered in a book...and I have read LOTS of books.

[HEADING=1]I DEMAND AN OPTION FOR BELLATRIX![/HEADING]

I don't know why, but she's my favorite character in the series.

Oh wait, that's why...

Call me soulless and empty, but nobody.
I saw Dumbledore die in the 6th movie and people were crying and everything,I had no fucking idea why,but then again the movie bored me so much,I was probably half asleep and half dead by then.

Snape. He was my favorite character from the beginning.

Everyone hated him they never trusted him. He was saving everyone's lives and he just got screwed over in the end. Everyone hated him until the very end.

Oh that and James Potter was a little prick messing with him all the time just because he was Lilly's friend. Then Lilly ended up dying and Snape was crying and then he died and then I was...I was...SOBBING IN MY ROOM while my dad laughed at me because he had read the book before I did.....
Pretty much this.

I actually like Snape and when I found he was good. Man, the only That i thought was written pretty damn good.

I voted Fred, but that's just because I didn't notice that Snape was on the list. Snape was, hands down, the most tragic character in the entire series. The Prince's Tale was the best chapter of all seven books.

His death was all the more poignant due to the fact that, when it happened, I thought he deserved it. At the time, I just thought he was a filthy traitor. When I learned the truth... man. I hadn't teared up like that since Toy Story 3.

I couldn't help but feel for Harry when Sirius died. It was starting to look like Harry might have some semblance of a family again then *bam* that got pulled out from under him.
I'm shocked by the number of Snape votes though. Admittedly I do like alan rickman so I could see it that way

I had to say Dumbledore. I actually made it through his entire death scene without tearing up, but at his funeral, when Fawkes started singing and Hagrid was weeping it finally got to me.

Hagrid was actually the kicker for me when Harry "died" too. The image of him sobbing as he carried Harry's lifeless body back to Hogwarts was just too much. Poor Hagrid, he's the victim in all this.

Rowling broke a rule. You don't kill off the comic relief. Especially when the other comic relief lives, but clearly can't live without him. Poor George.

Headwig. Because it was the most necessary and she was such an awesome companion character.

Looks like my vote helped Snape sneak into first place :) But yeah, it was Snape for me; he's my favourite character of the entire series and he probably rates in my top 10 fictional characters ever so his death was really moving for me. Also he's played by Alan Rickman in the films who nails the role completely.
Truth. He has this fairly complex morality for a kids'/YA series, so even if I could never get into the books, Snape has a fascination for me. Talk about iron willpower in a character. That's the kind of thing I admire most in real people, so of course his death was most affecting.

Plus - a LOT of the deaths, especially in the last movie, were either really brief or very effects-based (i.e. Voldemort exploding into ash). Snape got (relatively) believably mauled by a huge snake, and the slow thumping against the wall and the blood.. it's a lot worse onscreen than a lightning bolt.

Snape, not because of emotional response at the time (that would belong to Fred), but because knowing the sacrifices he made makes the other books better when I read through them again.

On side note, Hedwig, because it was so random and pointless in the book. I thought the movie did her death a lot better. At least she was fighting for Harry, instead of just "Whoops, she got hit by a random spell, Harry's only friend during the summers is dead now".

Also, Hagrid was my favorite character, so the saddest parts in the series for me were: when he's talking about his dad dying (seriously, I was full-on bawling during that chapter), during Dumbledore's funeral, and when he's carrying what he thinks is Harry's body to the castle.

Lupin and Tonks. I could have seen one or the other dying, but not both at the same time.

Hard to choose between Fred and Snape.
Their deaths seemed so hard on the people around them...

Oh, and Hedwig. That poor thing. D;

In the films Lavender Brown, since all it shows is her dead on the floor by a Death Eater and she is never mentioned again, that makes me sad.
Same, she seemed like the least likely character to be killed off.
Suddenly she shows up dead, her corpse being eaten. My god.
what about Colin Creavy? jesus i didn't see that coming. i had wondered why he made Griffindor once in book 2. guess i found out the hard way huh?

Snape, I wasn't so much affected by his death, as I was affected by his memories. It makes him a tragic hero, who never really got the chance to see what his actions accomplished in the end.

Also I cried like a baby when I read the words that Harry put on Dobby's grave. It really hit home the fact that the character sacrificed everything so that Harry could live.

Actually aren't most of deaths, of the good guys, in the Harry potter series partly self-sacrificing? I mean in the end most people who died at the battle of Hogwarts, died for Harry and the future of the wizarding world.

Fred. Seriously? You killed one twin, Rowling? It wasn't even in any meaningful way, he just basically died in an explosion. Maybe you felt like you had to kill off at least one Weasley to make up for not killing the Weasleys' dad (Arthur) in the fifth book, but Fred wasn't it. Maybe Percy should have kicked the bucket. It would have been his redemption for deserting the rest of his family.

It's a tie with Sirius Black or Fred Weasely. I was devastated.

With Sirius, I was doing was all the Dumbledore obsessing people were doing. Thinking maybe he wasn't dead. After all, technically there was no body! He just fell into this place. Perhaps, just maybe he could still live!

And Fred. Well, it's just Fred! Not him!

Oh and Severus Snape was very jarring too. But only in the movie. When I read it, I didn't get the same feeling.
