I don't mosh at all, when I go see a band play I want to just chill and enjoy the music, not get smacked around while doing so.

Like last night I was trying to watch Of Mice & Men play and I'm just standing there and some douche shoulders me in my jaw as hard as he can. After that I went toward the back by the merch booths (it was a small venue so I could see just fine and stood there for the other bands).

Depends what gig I'm at. If I'm seeing Devildriver, I'll mosh, if I'm seeing Less Than Jake I probably won't. I don't get kids who mosh and indie gigs though. Moshing to indie is like wearing body armour to beat up a baby.

I have a friend who is in a metal band. I mean, he's really into heavy metal. When he goes to shows of his favorite bands, he moshes. He throws punches around and stuff, you know the drill. But he's also a hockey player, so he's pretty used to punching/getting punched.

At a concert: no, it mostly ruins the mood

At our local "Metal Bar": hell yeah, we have multiple mosh pits every night :D

If you add a poll option that reads: I used to, but I'm in my 30s now and am too old for such nonsense", I'll vote. Feel free to paraphrase if you need to. :)

Nope. I go to concerts to enjoy the performance. For me, the audience just gets in the way. The closest I get to moshing is privately wishing I could hit the guy behind me. The sight of crowd surfing just makes me feel bad for the burly men who have to catch the surfers at the end of the crowd of people.

That's exactly how I feel most of the time at shows.

You don't wanna mosh? Don't go near the front and centre. Simplez. At a metal gig it's going to happen and its awesome. Even if its only for the breathing room you get if you can handle yourself in a pit.

I have no idea what 'moshing' is.

Sorry, could anyone explain? I like explenations more than google.

A good mosher can get hurled around a pit and still watch the performance, but there is a good reason they call it a pit. Rather than stand all the way back at the merch booths, most pits work around a relatively small part of the floor, and if you don't wanna feel anything, stand with two people between you and the pit

People who just shove each other around trying to be hardcore during concerts.

The whole floor was a pit. No joke.

I've never done it myself, but it is something some people do at loud concerts, where they flail their arms and run up against each other. People get hit, faces get busted, and somehow, they manage to have a good time while doing it.

I will occasionally mosh (it depends on the band playing) but usually I'll get up into the front row against the security barrier and just enjoy the show.

When I saw Slayer this summer, I moshed. ;-)

For Of Mice and Men? WHAT!?

I've seen floor pits (my friend's word for a mosh pit that takes the whole floor) During Metallica, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, and Megadeath... That's it... Odd that it would span the whole floor

I've never actually seen a face get busted from moshing. Normally you just get really close and shove people around. Only idiots elbow and punch. That's not moshing

Yeah, well even worse people were moshing for Pierce the Veil, which makes way less sense than Of Mice and Men.
