It's a Treyarch production, all the games sofar were a great steaming turd on the series, I have no intention of supporting them.

Because I enjoy running around and shooting people with modern weapons in games. Because, not including a few rounds of Gun Game on CSS a couple years back, Modern Warfare 2 has been the most multiplayer fun I've ever had. And the new currency system really strikes a chord with the customisation-whore part of me.

where's the 'all of the above' option?

particular highlight for me will probably be the wager matches, assuming currency is genuinely worth anything (as the adverts i've seen suggest). i can already imagine my friends threatening revenge over live :p

I'm not. I have no interest in competitive online play and I'm not going to pay 60 bucks for another 3-4 hours of singleplayer campaign. I'm likely to download it, play the campaign and then toss it off my harddrive. Maybe if the campaign turns out really REALLY good I'll buy it when it's on the discount shelves next year.

Modern Warfare 2 left a rotten garbage dump in my mouth after playing through it's campaign and multiplayer, so I'm waiting this one out to see if it really lives up to it's hype. Then again, nothing ever does.

My buying Black Ops or not almost entirely depends on whether or not one of my friends is willing to play split screen. I don't have xbox live, and we played Modern Warfare 2 splitscreen together for around 25 hours total, until he refused to play ever again after I owned him particularly hard one day. If he's willing to play as much splitscreen as we did in MW2, I'm definitely buying it.

I don't like FPS.

So definitely not getting it.

(Clicked the thread out of curiosity to see if there was an "I'm not getting it" option, just to avert the "then why did you post here" stuff)

Because despite my huge amounts of skeptism it looks like it's going to fix a lot that was wrong with MW2, especially multiplayer-wise. At least I hope so, I still kinda fear the overpoweredness of the ballistic knife.

The singleplayer looks pretty entertaining though, but I hope it's a bit longer than MW2's. Even though I still enjoyed it. Yes it was short and the story was convulsed bullshit, but damn it was one big adrenaline rush.

That said, I probably won't get it on launch day. I first want to see reports about things like multiplayer balance, my biggest gripe with MW2. And the crappy spawn system. Spawning right in front of a minigun that's just being spun up? Really?

I didn't think there were this many sensible people on the Escapist. I'm actually extremely glad that there are people here who won't buy shitty games just because they look cool. I mean, didn't you kiddies learn your freaking lesson with MW2?
It's not even out yet and you haven't played it yet, yet you call it shitty. That actually makes me kinda sad, that people still do that here.

Also remember that MW2 wasn't developed by the same developer as Black Ops.

I buy it for Nazi Zombies, and because I havent played any "realistic" and "Serious" shooter lately in multiplayer.

+1 for The Offspring...I am getting cause it has to be better than that hunk of garbage the has filled the void. Plus its getting gifted too me :)
+1 to the +1, also, not getting it, waste of money and all that while there's other, perfectly good games out there that I still need to buy. Like Ass.creed 2

You didn't list my reason: multiplayer bots. I don't care about anything else in the game (though I'm sure it'll be on par with World At War) but the mere fact that this could bring multiplayer bots back into mainstream FPS use is something I feel compelled to support to the fullest.

You know what, you're right.

I bet Black Ops is going to be an innovative masterpiece with a deep in-depth story and incredibly different graphics.

Or, you know, you could just admit you're getting the same cliched war game with slightly fancier gadgets and "new" guns so you can do the same boring multiplayer crap every day for the next few months until another one comes along.
And that's where a relatively objective analyse breaks down in opinion. I never said it was going to be innovative with a superb in-depth story and whatnot, I don't care either. I don't buy an FPS for that, if I want that I'll play Planescape: Torment (well except the graphics part, but if I want that I'll play Uncharted 2).

No, I buy games like MW2, BO and Bad Company 2 because I just want to be entertained. And while I enjoyed MW2 at the start, I found out later that it just didn't work properly. I'm starting to, slightly, look forward to BO because it seems to be working better than MW2. But as I don't know that for sure I'll wait for some reviews and comments by players on this site, especially MiracleOfSound.

But as it's looking now, Treyarch doesn't want to fall into the same pits IW fell into and to me that's pretty good news. They seem to have learned from IW's mistakes; dedicated servers, multiplayer bots, balance testing, etc. But I want to know for sure before I shell out for it.

please no more cod for a few years after Black Ops.

as if Activision would let that happen. There's gonna be 1 per year minimum for a long time, because people still buy it if has Call Of Duty written on the box.
