Poll: Why do you (not) eat meat?

Because I love meat more than most other foods. Lamb, venison, and Beef especially. Oh my the many different recipes that I could list. Gyro's, Jerky, Beaver Balls[footnote]No beavers are harmed in the production of this dish. It is simply cubes of sirloin Steak, toped with a slice of jalapeño, wrapped in bacon, and broiled. Taste divine though the name puts a lot of people off but hey, more for me.[/footnote], veal, steak, burgers. God how I love meat.

I don't eat meat because I see this when I see animals. :3

Not trying to pull you over to the wonderful world of omnivores but that picture reminded me of past experience.

At one point eating anything originally small and fuzzy was a no-no for me, since my friend had/has several pet rabbits. However there came one day when I was at my grandpa's cabin an hour or so drive away from the nearest grocery store, food was low enough that we would otherwise have to just eat junk food, and the rabbits (Wild! Not my friends!) were an annoyance for the cabin's garden. Needless to say we had rabbit that night. Don't regret it, rabbit stew is damn good. No longer have the issue anymore and I don't hold my friends pet rabbits (which are adorable by the way!) and think "you would be tasty in a stew" nor would I try and eat them under any normal circumstance.

Greetings humans. Today I would simply like to know, why do you eat meat? And if you do not eat meat, you can tell why not.

I do not eat meat because I believe it is harmful for the environment. And I hate the greasy taste it leaves in my mouth. Also: "Look at me! I'm so hipster for not eating meat!"

first off, there is nothing enlightening about your post. so the fact you would have that as a option clearly labels you as a self-absorbed, arrogant PoS.

Secondly, it is in NO WAY harmful to the environment. Eating regular proportions of meat is actually the best thing for the environment.

This is my problem with most vegetarians. You praise yourselves for doing something you dont even understand. Eating meat, especially meat that was hunted from a local animal population, is not only very healthy but helps keep the environment in balance.

I dont mind it when people are vegetarians. I just hate it when they announce it to everyone as if they deserve some type of award or attempt to convert other assholes to their idiotic ideals. Please do some research before you spew more of those farts you love so much.

I'm personally quasi-vegitarian, in that I choose not to eat beef or pork. I've been doing it for several years now, and by now either one of the two is slightly revolting to me. /shrug

Well, I'm very picky when it comes to meat. I eat only chicken, bacon, and pepperoni on my pizza.

I just don't like the smell, taste, and texture of other meats. On top of that, I only eat chicken that is properly breaded, so no grilled. I don't like chewy meat or meat that I have to chew a good deal to get it apart from the whole or just into pieces. Looking at fast food, other than KFC, I like Wendy's chicken the best. On McDonald's, I like their new McBites(Basically popcorn chicken, though KFC's popcorn chicken is better) better than their McNuggets.

Secondly on the chicken, it has to be free of the bone or I won't eat it, so boneless.

On bacon, it must be crisp/crunchy. I can eat chewy bacon, but I don't eat it gladly.

I maybe weird with my eating habits, but all that really matters is that I eat bacon.

And speaking of weird, next time if you ever have Wendy's nuggets and a chocolate frosty, dip the nuggets in the frosty. Now that is a treat. A frosty, not just for dipping french fries anymore.

Millions of years of evolution turned me omnivore, 10 years of nutrition specialists saying that vegetables are good, then bad, then good, then start recommending low carb diets, then high carb diets and all that bullshit has done nothing to convince me to go against what evolution pushed me towards.

We do in fact not have the ability to utilize all the nutrition which is stored inside vegetables. This is a digestive process which takes place in the appendix, an organ we have no use for because it's been reduced to almost nothing. The animals that eat plants are made to do so in one way or another. We are made to eat both, thus we can't get the same from only plants.

Brain development also require fat in quantities we don't get from plants.

I eat meat because it is natural (and bacon is the food of gods). Humans have teeth designed for eating meat, after all.

Since you put "Bacon" as your only meat allowed option, I'm forced to click it. And even then, bacon isn't usually the focus of a meal. It usually helps compliment something else, like pancakes and eggs...all nice and crispy...sorry, lost my train of thought.

My point is that there's nothing wrong with eating meat in any sence. Plants and animals are both alive and animals eat other animals so it's all fair game, humans are omnivores after all. This is one of those cases which I say eat what you want and believe what you want, just don't force what your views on me/others.

I only really eat bacon on occasion - and only because I really don't like pigs. That and occasionally corned beef.... Don't like cattle either - they fart too much.
The way I see it by eating the cow that'd otherwise produce methane - I am actually saving the environment.

That and really - just me stopping eating meat won't stop animal cruelty everywhere, so it's not like there's any point.

why? because it tastes good, keeps me alive and builds my body with the proteins and fats I get from it. And also easy access.
As for the bad for the enviroment thing, well if we didn't eat meat and continue to keep alive animals that should've died out long ago (some tigers, rhinos, pandas etc) then this world would be largely overpopulated.
But I don't really have any reason why I do it, ideological or religious or any other, I was raised with meat and still eat it, that's it.

I've been on both sides. I ate meat, then was dared to not eat it by a friend, this lasted almost 2 years. In those 2 years I moved away from home and learned to cook, even though the dare was only for a year I could only cook veggie meals until I decided to go back to meat.

Now I just sit on the fence. I eat meat, but I know perfectly well that the big pile of veg in the fridge is going in a thai green curry tonight.

I don't eat meat becase I don't like the taste of it. I was never raised on meat so, to me, it tastes disgusting. Also, too much meat can easily get you fat.

I love sport fishing though. I love watching those damn fish flap and die.
