I play games because i want to escape realism, as i'm sure many people here do. Plus, its fun to have heaps of friends running around just trying to have a great time on TF2 (favourite example)

Well it's definitely 100% because they're fun, but each game is fun in its own way. Some are fun to look at, others are fun to explore and/or experience, and some are just fun to point and laugh at.

This is also like more of an after-thought, but it's fun to be sitting around in a public setting and start rambling on about a game when there's guys I don't know sitting nearby. They look at me like I sprouted some kind of growth or something. A girl? Talking about games? And comprehending? What is this witchcraft? XD

Stress relief. I chose the "KILL!" option though, because that's the best stress relief you can get that you can't do IRL.

Mainly for the fun and the stories. I must admit sometimes I just want to break things and that is why they made Red Faction Guerrilla!

Because in real life I cannot jump off the Empire State Building, grind down its side with the body of a terrorist, and land with an impact so hard that Harlem feels the shockwave. Atleast I cannot without getting arrested for destruction of public property.

EDIT:

Stress relief. I need it. I'm a teacher. My students get really peeved that I won't give out my steam name though.
What a weird coincidence that you mention that as my AP US Government and Politics teacher just added his XBL gamertag onto his teacher info page on the shcool website.

Yeah my teacher never gave us his name on SC2 either...and to think...we networked the whole room on our own JUST so we could play with him after school lol sc1 was awesome in the middle of school...and Diablo 2 was worse than crack for that class lol

Oh yah, I mean, if there was a faculty vs students video game day AT SCHOOL (like we used to have back in High School), I'd be all over pwning those n00bs all the doo-dah-day but outside of school...let's just say I like to separate my gaming time from work time.

Have to go with fun. Sure they can be artistic as well, but when it comes to other forms of art, I generally don't look at pictures or watch movies or read books just because they're art, but rather because they are interesting to look at, cool to watch, or intriguing to read. Same applies with video games.

I wish this were multiple choice, because it is both for fun and to relieve stress. I picked for fun, but relieving stress is a huge part of it too. Ever since I was 6 and ran into my first bully, I wanted to pound that pudgy piece of shit into the ground but instead after-school I either got on the 'puter and blew Demons apart in Doom or sat on the couch and popped Street Fighter II on the SNES and played it with my mum, which always made me want to beat people less.

It starts out for fun but then it usually turns into compulsion for achievements or something along those lines.

For instance, it came to the point where I stopped having fun in MW2 and I just started playing for Callsigns.

To blow off steam after a long day, and for fun and creativity, as is the case with Minecraft.

Fun mostly but also the artistic merits of some games, LAN parties so I guess some social aspects as well.

To have fun, to kill, to have fun killing, to have fun with friends and to have fun killing friends.
