After browsing many a gaming forum, it looks like most of the hate is directed torwards the wii, and a lot of the stuff said is about how much the motion controls/graphics/internet/game library sucks (all stuff they knew about before they bought the damn thing.)
How was I to know that 3 years down the line the game library was still going to be a parade of gimmicky brainless shovelware?

I don't hate my Wii, but I do resent the fact that after 9 months of owning a PS3 I already have more games for it than I've collected in 3 years of Wii ownership.

Yes we are all stupid when it comes to Console wars and flame wars. Take for instance the Windows vs. Mac flame war. One will say that Windows in Better while Mac suck. Half the time they'll be saying that a console is better than a OS or Visa Versa. Where the hell is there any logic? If SSBB was to come to 360 with the same graphics people will say 360 version is better. While they completely throw out the fact that you will have the same damn experience if you pop a f*cking gamecube controller in the Wii. If we are all pros are video games (or at least should be) then we need to develop brain cells before passing the class of life.

If that's not OT to you then here!- Yes there is!!!!

While I DO understand the stigma attached to the Wii and casual gaming in general, I'm thankful that it exists. Before you attack me for saying that, let me state my reasoning behind it. It all comes down to attracting new gamers. Let's face it, if you want someone who has never played a video game in their life (I'm looking at the older crowd in particular) to become a gamer, you're not going to sit them down with a hardcore game like Modern Warfare 2 and expect them to have fun. If you do this, they will most likely get frustrated at how hard it is for them and be reluctant to pick up a controller again. This is where casual gaming comes in. If you teach someone how to play their first video game with something like Wii Sports, they would more likely have fun with it than be frustrated by it. After this, you can help them work their way up into more hardcore games.

Aside from this, casual gaming is also good for showing politicians (most of which have probably never touched a controller) that video games in general are NOT "murder simulators." I think the fact that the Obamas are the first Presidential family to own a game console (which happens to be a Wii) is a good sign for gamers. If the President of the United States can play video games without saying that they are evil, shouldn't other politicians who try to pass "anti-gaming" legislation see it the same way?

Well, that's my view of the Wii and casual gaming. Maybe if more people saw it the way I did, the Wii wouldn't be attacked as much as it is. Pleas note that I'm not a casual gamer. I don't have much fun with casual gaming because I've moved past it. However, once again, I'm thankful that it exists because of how many more gamers it can attract.

Yes, of course there's a stigma atatched to the Wii.

I think that alot of people blindly go into hating the Wii without truly giving it a fair chance. Yes, it's library of games isn't exactly what one might call hardcore but they still provide me with a measure of fun.

Frankly, I get fed up with all of the hate to the point of wanting to go out and bash skulls. Although I do not doubt that a number of those with hate for the system are justified in doing so, I find a great deal of its detractors to be completely ignorant of how it actually plays. Alot of folks I know simply bash it because it's the "Cool" thing to do. Coincidentally, alot of these folks only play one console.

Also, Nintendo did the intelligent thing for a business by cornering a market that was being ignored by the other consoles. There was a need for "Casual" games and they're making some cash off of it. Business will be exactly that.

In the end, though, what others think about the Wii doesn't really matter so long as you are having fun with the system, which is what games are for.

Stigma or no.

There is hate among the online forum community towards the Wii. This is nothing new. When we look back at the console launches we can see all the reason for console bias. Microsoft came out a year earlier than the other two with the 360 and had solitary control for the modern console generation. When Nintendo and Sony came out with their consoles we ended up with polar opposites in every way.

Nintendo came loaded with an enormous library of great launch or near launch titles that gave every type of gamer something to love. There were shooters, adventure games, casual titles. The wii had a great launch, which is it's downfall now. We just have not seen the same high quality titles come out throughout the past year and a half. Sure there have been some good games, but nothing really amazing that people really love to play like a zelda or a metroid.

Sony came out with a slow launch with a relatively small library of great games, but now we are seeing what feels like a massive boom of great titles coming to the console. Things like Uncharted 2, infamous, and the like are starting to catch the ps3 up to the competitors. It is at this holiday season that I personally feel we are seeing a great balance in what the consoles have to offer when you look at the long term lifespan of the consoles. Nintendo is coming to realize that it needs better spacing on it's big name titles, it needs more of them, and, in my opinion, it needs a brand new ip to work with. Microsoft is sustaining itself the same way it has since launch. Great spacing on great titles, with average games thrown in to keep people's attention until the next big release. And now Sony is coming along finally providing great titles at an acceptable clip for the fans that have patiently waited.

In conclusion all of the companies are finally realizing what must be done, and yes Nintendo, at least for the time being, is taking most of the hate, because they haven't had a stellar title for a long time, but for the sake of all wii owners I truly hope that the top tier games that Nintendo was known for not that long ago are coming.

Yes, Wiiophobia. Duh. So-called "hardcore" gamers (i.e. overcompensating teenagers) hate it for not taking itself seriously. Graphic elitists hate it for bad hardware. Some other people - including Yahtzee - hate it because no-one knows how to develop for the Wiimote properly (as in, make controls more complicated than just waggling).

Well personally my opinion comes from having one, I had one, played Wii Fit, Wii Sports, The Force Unleashed and a few others. It's not even fun casually tbh. The controls are awful, clunky, frustrating and tiresome, and there's only ever 1 or 2 games made for it a year that are decent.

Yes, because nothing deserves hatred more than a video game console marketed to people who are not us. Damn them for not catering to our every whim! Hatred is so much more valid than, say, apathy, wouldn't you say?

the wii will have hate attached to it, mainly because(but not limited to) the shit 3rd party support. alot of the nontendo licensed games are at least pretty good, but if you let any one else but nintendo make a game on it, you will find out why the wiimote is called the wagglemote.(note: i own and like the wii, i just ike making fun of the stuff i like, and acknowledge the wii's faults with dignity.)

Nintendo has moved elsewhere, which allows them to earn money, but also ensures that none of us care about it anymore.

I own a Wii. The only thing it's good for is Wii Fit, and Wii Sports. That's IT. And both of those are only good at PARTIES. Which I have like maybe 2 times a YEAR.

The controls suck. Lemme tell you a story. I was playing CoD 3 on this thing. And in the beginning you get one of those tutorial lessons, and a German pounced on me, and while the screen was telling me to move my arm and nunchuck in a back and forth motion (the wiimote in the front and the nunchuck in the back, switching places), I was really into it so I was like sweating like HELL. But I kept dying. And I'm wondering wtf I'm doing wrong. Turns out you have to sit there and..I don't even know how to explain it. It's like you can ONLY go sooo fast (which too fast on the wii is anything above moving your arms 2 miles an hour). Not only that but throwing grenades and looking around to aim and shoot things is a nightmare.

The game library sucks. It's like living in Australia. The only good games that come out are always limited to PS3/360, and when they finally do come out for the Wii, the sequel is already out. And you wait THAT LONG to get shitty controls and graphics. Hell, the graphics are comparable to that of a PS2.

Another thing about the game library is that it's not only limited, the games in it most likely suck ass. ESPECIALLY games that are basically 20 different mini games that you're limited to play. Sure, some may like that, but the goddamn games themselves suck! It's like, getting a giant truck full of ice cream. You're like 'COOL! ICE CREAM!' but when you open the barrel, you see that the ice cream is filled with cement fragments and metal shards that will cut your tongue when you try and eat it. Some of them are, like, mixes of Anime and fucking Wii sports combined! With even more bad arcade/party games! That are near impossible to play with the wiimote anyway!

I need to go to bed..

No, it's just a gimmick that's had its fifteen minutes of fame. I actually own a Wii (Got it for free from an ISP promotion), and I haven't touched it since I beat Twilight Princess and I won't touch it again until the next Zelda game comes out for it. I think that the majority of the people who bought it have moved on to the iPhone or some other portable 'App' based platform. They just hunt new gimmicks.

I wouldn't hate my Wii so much if it didn't collect so much damn dust. I've got Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Super Smash Bro's Brawl, Twilight Princess, and Madworld. They're all good games, but(With the exception of Brawl) when you finish the game...it just feels like there is no reason to go back. I could go play Mario Galaxy again, but I COMPLETELY finished that game.

Oh, and I guess I could get Resident Evil 4 for the Wii...but I wont for the same reason I wont get No More Heroes on the PS3...I already own the game, why buy it again?

As far as I'm concerned, right now Nintendo is a Handheld company (as I love my DS to bits).

That's a perfectly valid opinion, if flawed because you're not even the target audience. However, actual hatred? That's just silly.

Nintendo continues to think of themselves as toy makers, as opposed to entertainers for people with more grown up tastes. Admittedly, adults can enjoy plenty of Wii games, but they're generally not particularly violent, nor are they really adult themed. By adult theme I simply mean that the game deals with complex emotions, political intrigue, and things like that.
