I haven't played the GCN version, so you could be right.
A game in the same series using some of the same elements while otherwise being completely different?! Say it isn't so!
It's point and shoot, it doesn't get any simpler than that. If you're talking about throwing grenades and such, use the nunchuk: it improves the experience greatly.
It isn't a rail-shooter. It's a normal FPS, and it actually was pretty well accepted by most review sites.

And here's the problem with the third-party support on Wii: Nobody knows that these games exist. Despite all of them being critically lauded, the companies keep silent about their launches. There aren't any TV ads, hardly any magazine articles, and the only ad I saw for Extraction was a sidebar on IGN. Game companies: Advertise your Wii titles, otherwise people won't know how great they really are!
I must have mistaken The Conduit for something else then. Upon further research, however, it still had mixed reviews because it tried to hard to look good (but still didn't look as good as some of the worse PS3 and 360 games) without having any sort of substance to it. After seeing a screenshot I recognized it as belonging to my friend, and my first few impressions were largely the same. And despite how well it may have been received, after giving various major review sites like IGN a look-over I couldn't help but notice the subtle notions of "It's great... for a Wii game".

Dead Space: Extraction is a sub-par rip-off, plain and simple. I've played it and it's like playing Dead Space only with worse controls (as usual!) and less content and substance.

And I notice I can't spell boring at 6:00am. Nice. In any case, House of the Dead: Origins, while having 'simple' controls, was still, like I said, unintuitive as it forced you to jump through hoops to achieve simple commands. And no, I'm not purchasing fifty peripherals just to get the right functionality I should have had to begin with (even thought I got mine second-hand without a nunchaku, that still doesn't excuse the other peripherals like the gun and whatnot, or that damn Wii-Motion-Plus crap; you know, the peripheral that makes the Wii work like it was supposed to in the beginning?).
Dead Space Extraction is a fucking prequel, man! Of course it's going to play similarly to Dead Space: it's the same series! And I've played Extraction: how hard it is to press B, and occasionally press A? It isn't rocket-science! What hoops did you have to go through to execute simple commands in Overkill? The only things I could think of are changing weapons and grenades, which can easily be fixed by using a Nunchuck which, last I checked, you should already have if you own a Wii!

And what's wrong with being good for a Wii game? It's good, and it's on the Wii. What's the problem?

And on Motion+: would you rather pay $20 now, or $80 back then?

For a fun exercise, read through this thread and see how many sheep just quoted Yahtzee's opinions on the thing rather than have an opinion of their own.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! so people that are mentioning poor library or bad controls are mentioning the same things as Yahtzee, which automatically means that this opinion is not their own and they are sheep. I see what you did there! Well played, my brilliant friend!

A game that looks close to identical to the origional, doesn't have the motion controls, and will probably cost 3 times as much.
I don't like the Wii. But I did like No More Heroes.
And then they took away my sword and made me collect coconuts, which, as it turns out, is a lot harder than killing people (go figure).
The minigames were annoying, but the game itself was actually really cool and I agree that the motion controls certainly helped make it that way. And I liked the graphics simply because it was as if the developers knew the Wii was utter shit so they didn't even try to make it look good (something other developers could probably learn from.)
Really the only thing I disagree with is your comment about the cost. $59.99 is the approximate cost of a new 360 game. $49.99 is the approximate cost of a new Wii game (that I've noticed).
$59.99 != 3*49.99.
Yes, I'm looking too much into it, but even exaggerations should have SOME validity.
I got my copy new from Gamestop for $20, without coupons or anything, so I'm pretty sure that's just the normal price for that game. Most of the games are $50, but not this one for some reason, so there you go.

I have 2 games for my wii, okami and super mario galaxy (I sold the rest). Those are the only two games stopping me from selling me wii, and super mario galaxy 2 when it comes out. I don't hate the wii, I just prefer my xbox.

Some people like to think the WII as an inferior console, when it isnt. Its just different and doesnt offer then same library the other consoles do.

Just because Mad World is violent doesn't make it any less child-like...

Anyway, I can't stand the Wii as it is tediously boring to me.

It's good for parties and it helped get some people I know interested in gaming. I wouldn't own one myself because I play single player most of the time and I have a gaming PC whic is better then any console I have played on.

My partner has a Wii, has had for some time and I'm only now starting to make an effort with it.
There are some great games for it, Madworld, No More Heroes, Super Paper Mario, Galaxy.
But I think the problem is that it's not marketed toward the 'core and is seen as inadequate in a generation of Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare, when, in fact, it's just another console and, I'm happy to say, the games I've played have been a lot of fun. The anti-backlash starts here.

The also had the good sense to make it backwards compatible for the Gamecube, meaning I can also catch up on all the games I've missed.

But Nintendo admitted they had no intention of becoming part of this generations console war. And considering the poor sales of the 'Cube compared to SONY and M$ the last 2 gens. who can blame them?

And SONY and M$ are not innocent when it comes to allowing piss poor games on there system. It's about what will sell to the lager, casual market, and what will interest the committed gamer.
Unfortunately, Nintendo do seem to forgetting about the latter in favour of making money.
Considering the poor sales of 'mature' (read: violent) games on the system, Madworld, Dead Space et al, it's no surprise.

Wait a minute, people accusing Nintendo of abandoning the 'hardcore' gamer. Nintendo has published to my knowledge a grand total of 6 games that I'd consider 'casual' (seven, if you choose to include Animal Crossing): Wiis Sports, Resort, Fit, Music, Fit+, and Music. Now, let's take a look at games that are considered 'hardcore': Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Punchout!!, Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii and Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy. These are all I can remember, unfortunately. Now, count all that up. The 'core' games outnumber the 'casual' ones! I'd hardly call the gamers from the previous generations 'abandoned'.

There definately is a stigma attached to the Wii, and for good reasons
the Wii has earned a reputation for shittiness because it has last generation graphics, horrible online, the controllers have horrible battery life, they are constantly coming out with attachments to let the fiddly little bastard achieve what it was supposed to do in the beggining, horrible 3rd party support, and for every good game on the Wii there around 50 shitty ones this includes 1st and 3rd party games

Take that people who say there is no reasn to hate the Wii
And yes i do own a Wii
Those are reasons to dislike the wii (assuming they're true) but they arn't reasons to hate it. No one's forcing you to buy one, or to play the one you currently own. It's perfectly understandable that not everyone on earth has a hard-on for motion controls, but what I don't get is why so many people HATE it. I chose not to buy a 360, because there arn't enough games I find interesting to justify buying it in my opinion, but I don't HATE the 360, or the company that manufactures the 360, or the people who own a 360, and yet people who don't personally care for the Wii seem to actively HATE it, and that baffles me.

Thats true it was just such a disapointment that it really pissed alot of people off and caused them to hate it
look at it from the perspective of someone who wasted $250 on it

Heres the thing about the wii, it's the scapegoat in the gaming industry for something to hate. Plain and simple, while people may have actual good and well thought out reasons to hate it, they shall be outnumbered by the 9 other people who hate it because their friend said it sucked. Savy?

I'd hardly call that $250 wasted. There are plenty of good titles, such as SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, Punch Out, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and New Super Mario Bros Wii to name a few. Sure there's plenty of shovelware, but there's enough great quality titles for it to be worth the cost.

But what pisses people off is the amount of crap you have to wade though to get to the good stuff and it really gets frustrating

Not quite, I was referring to the people who take his exact wording without adding a single thing of their own.

And you took to the tried-and-true weapon of exaggeration and sarcasm quite fast. Did I hit a nerve or something?

People're free to dislike the Wii all they want. It'd just be nice if they had a reason other than "all the cool kids are doing it".
