What do you mean by will replace? America is 20 TRILLION dollars in debt and owe almost 1 trillion to both China and Japan. Pretty sure China has America's nuts in a vise.
When you base your entire economy on the basis that the dollar will stay good, it's good to keep the US full of money.

OT: I see the US staying on top for another hundred years, China will implode, then rebuild even stronger. In 2100 I see Brazil, China and a reformed EU as the strongest world powers.

No, the US is still on top for the first two. The best economic system is a subjective thing.

On Topic: The European union would have a good shot if it united as a nation. Not sure how likely that is of course.
EXACTLY. I was going to point out the EU. Already, as I understand it, theres a degree of federalism in the EU which effectively unites it as a single economic and military entity. And with a GDP much higher than the US, 500M people or so and a huge military, the EU is already one of the dominant powers in the world. And if Russia joins, even China will be eclipsed.

And me and my sister have a running wager, who will be a superpower first: Canada or Australia?

Here is my ridiculous prediction. America collapses, there are a series of civil wars, Russia expands into Europe and China Pakistan and India have a little war.. it goes nuclear and most of Asia becomes uninhabitable. Russia expands, most of its eastern territory is wracked by a mild nuclear winder and lots of people die, but its Russia so they don't care. However due to the loss of manpower from the east their Western War comes to a grinding halt. Probably somewhere mid Germany. (As much as I love Poland they can't stop Russia themselves and the other Western powers have a long history of not helping them even when its in their own best interests)
Meanwhile after a long bloody civil war America re-solidifies as something different, and a lot more brutal (I'm predicting ideological genocide... ideocide if you will, no more liberals, as it the libertarians and conservatives with the guns and they are getting sick of the way things are going in the states)So a re-solidified USA (probably called something different) climbs out of the ashes and begins to work its way back to the top.
In Europe the Russian empire will either slaughter the inhabitants of its new holdings wholesale like Stalin did, or (as few people are as evil as he was) It will have trouble holding them as the inhabitants will not stop sabotaging all their things (Especially in Poland) and they will be forced to give them more freedom and probably abandon their new holdings in eastern and central Europe (they will hold onto the Balkans). So, Russia will lose a lot of land in the West and gain some in the East and South. America will be a new power, but tend toward a isolationist policy (Probable that there will be more than one country for a while, also that it will expand into Canada and Mexico)

Anyway, that's what I see happening, ya know... maybe.

EDIT: Also, Russia may have another civil war, the line of Czars (Tzars, whatever) is still unbroken, I wouldn't be surprised if Russia split into White Russia (under the Czars) and Red Russia (under the current government)

I think superpowers need to be heads above most of the world right? Well, given their current populations I couldn't see either of them.

Canada is an energy superpower. I don't know about Australia.

Man, not a lot of people have much faith in ol' Brazil there. You'll all see though :).

In short, I think it would be hard to predict such a thing. The world is changing very fast on many levels today, and geopolitical shifts are, if I had to bet, going to happen much quicker as well in the near future.

110 years ago England was a dominant power, and no one would have thought any country would surpass it.

Nope. China's pretty poorly organized. It basically doesn't allow worldwide trade because if it ever did, its government is afraid it wouldn't be able to compete. Hence the huge market for Chinese knock-offs of various games and films. It's a government that tends to try and propagate ignorance among its populace as a method of control, hence why it can't approach Germany, Japan, the US, or even just the state of California on its own in terms of its GNP.

I'm going to be honest. If China ever becomes more economically dominant than us, we'll probably invade them. I'm not saying I want an invasion, it's just the likely course of events. Americans like being on top.
Cus that tactic worked well for America in the Korean war. Stupid Macarthur... what an idiot... hate that guy...
the only reason we dont own north Korea is because we didnt want to piss off china trust me if we didnt give a shit i give it 5 years before we could beat china into surrendering.what doesnt seem to get through to people is china doesnt have very many solders what they have are alot of conscripts which in a war with any western country would be almost useless.

wtf is Germany doing in that list?
it's far more likely that the EU merged into one nation and becomes a superpower.

Why brazil? yeh it trades alot but its economy isn't worth the house i live in.
ps china is already the world superpower.

USA has less money and about 1/4 of the military power.
Brazil's economy is growing extremely rapidly.

Chinese citizens are extremely poor, and have a hugely lower standard of living.

The USA has more military power than most of the world combined.

You are wrong in so many ways.

Is the US even the world's leading superpower today? How are we defining superpower?

I'd say all of those have the potential to become superpowers, but the future is very difficult to predict. Assuming humanity's still around by then, these are my opinions:

1. China
2. Brazil
3. India
4. Russia
5. Germany
6. USA

But who knows what the future holds.

My guess is that in ten years, those four countries will be the economic and military leaders of the world. China and India have all the manpower and therefore the labour, while Russia and Brazil have all the resources.

Economically china wins easily, but culturally it's not as easy as that. English is basically going to be the language of earth. Its spoken practically worldwide as it is, countries such as france have even put measures in place banning english encroaching on their own language and slowly removing it like in place in india (where they drop words and sayings that are easier in english)

That being the baseline, movies, music, even a bit of tv and most of the internet has a lot of english influence. Ive never seen threads on this site in another language, but i'll bet you any amount people are speaking another tongue to post here. Considering English is america's language and the produce most popular media garbage i don't think it will be as simple as "china economy smash america economy"

But yea thats gonna happen. Personally, i think america will fall and little ol' england will become the cultural force of the world. Art, music, film, reading - a lot of high quality media comes out of the UK. Its a bit hard to imagine, but i think its just as likely as every other theory put out there. Personally i feel america will regress some amounts. The country isnt very progressive and theres a lot to go wrong.

EDIT: why is everyone going on about military power? I thought everyone agreed war was bad already? Or is this just a british sentiment?

They can take it.
I'm tired of every country watching us and waiting for us to fail.

As you know if something is big, then you should automatically hate it.
