Poll: Will you get the new XBox if the rumors about it are all false?

I'll give it a year or so. I'm never an early adopter of game consoles because they purposefully try to squeeze early consumers to recoup losses on hardware. Once the smoke clears, I'll get it if it's proved itself to be a reliable console with good games and a good UI.

Maybe in the unlikely event they drop the sub for xbox live, Hey microsoft here's an idea why not reward me for subbing instead of punishing me for not?

Voted No.

I can't afford a new console for one thing. I just replaced my XBox 360 after the last one overheated to death.

For another, what could it possibly offer to make gaming better than it is right now? The 360, at least, offered HD, it plays DVDs and it was my first exposure to Xbox Live (with the marketplace and the arcade and the anonymous multiplayer). It even introduced Kinect -- which, while not for me necessarily, was at least new and interesting. I can't see how a new console would follow that act and top it to such an extent that it convinces me to shell out all over again.

Okay, that might have sounded a little short-sighted. There's plenty of neat stuff a new console -could- do that the current Xbox 360 doesn't or can't do. But I'm an old-fashioned console gamer. I want to buy a cartridge or a disc or whatever, put it in the machine (preferably without having to blow on it first) and play the game I paid for. And frankly, the current 360 does that perfectly well. It also adds plenty of neat stuff that I never use. I don't want a new console full of even more neat stuff I already know I'll never use.

Also, there are no game IPs currently out that I'd slavishly follow to the next generation. I followed Halo 3 onto the 360 because of how much I loved Halo and Halo 2, but I don't see myself doing that for Halo 5 or 6 or for whatever that new persistent shooter MMO thing is that Bungie's developing. Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Fable... all their #3s left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wouldn't follow them over. (I don't even know if I'll buy Assassin's Creed 4 on the 360.)

So... there.

It depends. If they start releasing BlazBlue for the PC again I may just stick with PC forever >.>

how would that work? there are rumors that it has always on DRM and rumors that it doesn't. if both those rumors are false, will we even be getting a console?

also no, i will pick up the PS4 after a couple of years, the xbox has till then to have a better library.

Clearly it means that it will have always-offline DRM. You cannot play your games with an internet connection.

No. I'm gradually drifting away from console gaming altogether, and if I do buy one, it's not going to be the one that still has people paying money to receive some pretty basic online functionality, and still inundates them with ads to scrounge every last penny they can out of the damn thing. That people are still expected to pay for XBL is kind of laughable. I also couldn't care less about backwards compatibility on a new Xbox since I never bought the first two.

No. I never bought a 360, and I don't even know where my classic Xbox is.

As long as there are PC ports, I have no need for an Xbox.

I doubt it. I don't see why I would ever want to shell out a couple of hundred quid for a machine that I will probably have to pay to use online, will break in the first few months and won't have many decent exclusives at launch. If they somehow pull out something incredible in a few weeks, decent hardware, no XBL subscription, dozens of exclusives at launch that are all fairly good and not bank breaking then I would consider it. But likely won't ever get one.

Sony appear to have learned from their mistakes of the last generation and are actively trying to be Dev friendly both to big names and indies. Something I don't expect Microsoft to do since they seem to hate indie devs and regular devs, pretty much anything to do with gaming really.

Captcha: foul smelling. That would be the Nextbox Captcha, just cover your nose.

I'm still on the fence about it all, but honestly, I probably won't be getting a console on release day if I ever get one at all. I've grown accustomed that both Sony and Microsoft usually have shaky launches and I'm not expecting any changes there.

Looking at where things stand, let's say 6-12 months time, I will be more at ease with making a decision. The majority of that lies on the quality of the game library to me. I'm not for DRM or Always-On, but it's not a big issue for me; nor do I have any problem paying all of $5 a month for an online subscription. BUT- I need a justifiable reason for me to give Microsoft that money, and that isn't so I can watch low-res ads.

After Sony's debacle back in April 2011 (the PSN hack), I lost any trust I had with that company. Further their showing of PS4 showed absolutely nothing that I was interested in. I'm really hoping Microsoft can pick up the ball for me on this, but I'm not saying anything for certain.

To date, I have not commented on any of the NeXbox rumours, other than to try and stem overreactions to rumours until official word comes down the pipe.

I have not had any intention on buying whatever system MS wants to bring out next. I've never felt like my 360 purchase ever lived up to the price. It's been in my closet for over two years and wasn't used much up until that point. I had picked it up in 2008 when it seemed that the JRPG genre was leaning heavily toward that platform but those games turned out to be mostly shit and as they started to improve they also started showing up on PS3 as well or exclusively.

Basically I regret my 360 purchase and I have no plans to repeat that.

Unlikely, and here's why.

The online service is a total joke. The PS3's subscription service gives you so many benefits and goodies. (Free game every month sounds good to me) and even if I don't want that, I can still play online. For free.
Even the Wii U and the 3DS is above the Xbox 360 in terms of downloadable content. They release their games on a download service, day one, for a fairish price. And again, I can play online for free.

The Xbox 360's paid service nets me online multiplayer, party chat and...that's it. As far as I can tell, that's what I'm paying £40 a year for. I get bombarded with adverts (ON A PAID FUCKING SERVICE) and the benefits aren't nearly all that good (For updating my subscription, I get 200 MSPs...yaaaaaaaaaaay...) Bare in mind, most Arcade games cost 400-800 MSPs, so that's not all that great.

Granted, the Xbox has some exclusives, but even they are starting to die on me.

Halo: I liked Halo 4, but I see no reason to go back.
Gears: Never cared for it.
Minecraft: On the PC and it's so much better.

Forza is the only exclusive I actively enjoy playing.

The PS3 for example has exclusives that I want, like Little Big Planet and Metal Gear. On the PC, I can get more games for a cheaper price (Granted, hardware is an issue, but still).

Will I get a Xbox Infinity (If that's what it's called)? Probably not. I'll probably just get a better PC and stick to it. For the record, I'm having more fun on Animal Crossing right now that anything on my Xbox.

...except maybe Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed...that game is great.

I'm getting it anyway, it's all a matter of which one I'll get first, unless of course it turns out to have no decent games or something. I will, however, wait until I finish the many great games I'm STILL playing in my 360.

Well I don't think it's unreasonable to assume they're going to charge for online, that's hardly up in the air. No, I will not be buying an Xbox, I will be going straight to PC do not pass Go do not collect any peripherals if the PS4 turns out to be not all I hope.

The rumours dont matter so much as how they are implemented. Some of these people have issue with, but not so much for me, this is just my opinion. I know some people really want BC and others have crappy broadband where they live.

1. Always online. Now they have yet to say its for gaming. Though they have mentioned showing TV on it so that would need an always online connection if you are using it for TV.

2. Again always online.....if there is a good inbuilt wifi then its not so bad. Though again, not said if it for single player offline gaming. But then my laptop is always online so not really a big deal. But again, i dont expect to not be able to play a single player offline game just because the broadband is playing up.

3.Exclusives. What exclusives? Compared to PS1/PS2 where there loads, exclusives are becoming less and less to the point where it doesnt matter. Even next gen i there will be even less exclusives outside of the sony/MS created games.

4. Kinect always on.....ok this could be a deal breaker. I doubt kinect will work in my room due to where my tv is and the size of my room. Also i do not want that kinect rubbish forced onto me. I do not or ever want to use it. I play for plesure, not for a work out. Like most people, the console is still a part of the bedroom, not a main hub in the living room. So i doubt kinect will work for a lot of people.

5. Backward compatability. Sorry but this is a feature that is not a deal breaker. You might play the old games during the 360/next crossover. But once all the cool next gen games are released people will rarely play the old consoles games. The 360 didnt even have it properly in the first place. You only expect because the PS2 had it. The PS3 has a crappy emulator version same as 360 did. Why are you expecting something you never really had in the first place? Just keep your old console.

6. Second hand gaming. Ok this would be the one that determines if i buy it. Most of the games i get are either second hand or rented. There are very few games worth buying new because they are only 10 hours in length and as i dont do online gaming then all the multiplayer is irrelevant to me. Otherwise i would only buy 2 or 3 games brand new a year (maybe more if the price halves) and that really isnt worth spending £300+ on a console.

So, ok, anyone of these things isnt a deal breaker apart from 6. But a few of them together would be. But mostly its the games. This current gen has been mostly boring with very few games shining through and giving us new stories and experiences. Ive become fairly bored this gen. So this next gen of console better show us something new, exciting and different. An not, as i suspect, the same games with a new shiny coat of paint. For instance, look at how ghostrecon went from huge map where you make your own way through how you want to linear shooter the same as CoD. Fact with each new console comes better graphics but at a higher development cost means companies are even less likely to try new things.

Soon we will know. When is it, 15 May MS show its next console? So i guess we will have to wait till then. Mostly the games are the thing, if they dont show me anything that gets me excited them i doubt i will buy it. I dont go online, dont care about all that social media rubbish they seem to want to add on it these days. I cant see MS doing a lot of these, it would be like shooting yourself in the foot and wiping out all the gains they have made against sony in the console business.

I don't buy things because they don't do bad things, I buy things because they do something for me. The new xbox has to have more to offer than the ps4 for me to buy it. If the rumors are false that would be nice, but "it doesnt need to be online all the time" isn't a selling point on its own.

Probably won't get any next gen consoles at this rate. My current laptop is about as powerful as the PS4, and sometime next year I'll be getting a proper desktop that'll flatten it. Exclusives might sway me to get one or the other, but that won't be for a long time after initial release.

If you'd asked me two years ago I'd have said the PS4 though.

I mean, if all the rumors are false then it really depends on what replaces them. I feel like most of what would be exclusive Microsoft titles end up being available on pc anyways so I don't have much incentive to go there when my pc is powerful enough to play their games. Sony appears to have the better exclusives that don't bleed as much into also being pc titles so I have more incentive that way. Also, between the 360 and the ps3, the ps3 has been my much preferred media center this past generation as I've found the ps3 dashboard to be a lot less cluttered than the 360's and so well organized. I also actually have more faith in the hardware itself as both my original PS3 and my wife's PS3 are still running strong. A 10% failure rate for ps3 machines after 2 years is a decent number and certainly pales in comparison for the 24% failure rate of the 360s in the same time period ("fool me twice, shame on me" comes to mind). Current 360 failure rates have fallen in-line with the ps3 but I still don't want to be an early adopter of their next machine again. As for the ps4 not having backwards compatibility as far as we can tell, the 720 also won't have backwards compatibility for physical media either because they bet on the wrong format pony and lost (HD-DVD lost to Bluray) so the 720 will have to change format to become a viable media center for all those of us with Blu-ray movies and such as well as to cut costs of physical media production (I would anticipate that digital games will be backwards compatible, no reason for them not to be on the 720 like it is very unlikely that the ps4 can be backwards compatible for any). Even so, I have to admit that I only ever used the ps3's backwards compatibility feature to play one ps2 game that I'd missed and I didn't finish it because it was so technologically behind. I think of all the previous games I've played a second time after the console has ended and I really don't think I need that in the system as much as other gamers seem to. I mean, I've played Final Fantasy Tactics several times on my PSP. It's not like my needs aren't still being accomodated or that I couldn't still go out and buy a ps1 now if I really wanted to. Add that with a free network service and I don't feel that anything other than a ps4 would be the best choice for me to buy first in the next gen arena.

I'm sure, as with this generation, that I'll likely own the 720 at some point. But only when it feels like a reasonable investment that distinguishes itself enough from the ps4 to warrant having it. The kinect actually persuaded me this generation to get the 360 and I've enjoyed that decision as far as the kinect and the few big-named exclusives they've have. I mean, heck, my house guests love slicing fruit via the kinect. But Sony has really done their exclusive homework for this generation with a lot of exclusives that have appealed to a lot of different demographics. From inFamous to Heavy Rain to Journey. Microsoft wins the exclusive shooters category with Gears and Halo but with COD and Modern Warfare bridging the gap that's not as important. Resistance and Killzone aren't particularly memorable games, but they do at least partially fill that gap where exclusive shooters are concerned.

But not only that. Look at the exclusives Sony is pumping out this year. The last year where it's ps3 is the big dog in Sony-land. Several of these titles look superb and like they'd be prime material to launch the ps4 with but instead Sony is just finishing strong. I can't tell you how upset I was with Sony at the start of this generation.
