Aside from the 'Australian Argument' (which is [for now] easily remedied) I am probably not going to bother.
I played SR2 and loved it. Sure, the PC port was bad, but the storyline in that game was perfect to me. The writers managed to make me sympathise with some very unlikable characters, and the many plot turns in that game were fantastic.
In SR3, there's no reason to care about the 3rd Street Saints. They are totally unlikeable. Sure they make an attempt at getting us to care:
But without the context of the second game, it's kinda meaningless.
Not to say SR3 wasn't an enjoyable game, no. I loved it. It was a fun romp and it was as over the top as promised. The opening scene still stays with me, even now, as one of the best action sequences I've seen to date. But the story is hamfisted, and there's no reason to give a rats patootie about the characters at all.
I hope they fix it in SR4:
But I'm not holding my breath.
Apologies for the spoiler tag abuse, but I tried to keep things fresh for those who haven't played the games...if these people exist.

The murders of Carlos and Aisha, and the actual rise of the Saints through Stilwater were gripping moments, and I ended up caring more about the Saints than I would have otherwise.

Although bringing back Johnny Gat makes the entire premise of SR3 pointless
