I read it from time to time in the hopes that I catch something actually funny, which happens rarely. But as far as that main subject goes, I guess you could say I was planing something, but it is not based on the made up holiday.
Hmm, a couple of the random gaming related ones recently were ok (with the exception of this one: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20081114 Which sums up everything that is wrong with his comics; overly wordy, with the joke in the first panel, making the rest pointless.) Unfortunately he's now gone back to his idiots in space thing, done without any of the humour that makes a storyline based comic like LFG amusing.
And let's not get started on the whole miscarriage/Lilah-Ethan thing.

I do find chef Brian quite amusing for his sheer, unadulterated randomness though

Yeah all the Chef Brian one are gold, laugh all the time. But other then that there are only a few really good ones and the rest are just ok. Same goes for some other web comics.

I'll say this much about Buckley: Thumbscrews.

As for the holiday? I never pass up an excuse to play excessive amounts of videogames.

I don't really like the webcomic anymore, but what he started was a good thing. We gamers deserve a holiday to come together and celebrate our hobby. My friends and I have celebrated Winter-een-mas every year since high school, and I doubt we'll stop anytime soon.

I would say it was a good idea if it hadn't been started by Buckley. Or if it actually had an effect on anything, since I game most of the time for most of the year anyway...

I was going to say something derogative about Tim Buckley, but it seems you all took care of that for me. Go Team!

I am not in the requisite state of perminant inebriation that celebrating fake holidays requires. Sorry.

Penny Arcade also does something better than Ctrl+Alt+Del. They don't give up the joke until the last panel. If you give the joke in the first fucking panel like CAD is known to, then there's no sense in hanging around now is there?
You know, I've seen many people reference this, and I think it's because of Yahtzee's fully ramblomatic post. Buckley doesn't usually give the joke away early (at least from the comics I've read). His main problem seems to be trying to fit jokes that would be much better executed in either less or more panels into 4. For example, there was one a friend sent me where skinny guy was trying to get revenge on someone, and found out his weakness was arrogance. He responds. 'so he likes to smell nice, does he?' It was rather amusing, but would have been more so if the previous three panels were not pointless filler. Also, Buckley may or may not be an asshole, but I don't think that should factor into considerations of his work (not that I'm saying his work is good, but if you think it is poor, you should have a better reason than 'he's a jerk') If I only enjoyed things made by people I like, I wouldn't be able to listen to a majority of the rock or jazz that I do.

Long story short: The original poster was apparently confused as to the total scope of the world that one web comic is capable of impacting, leaving this to be less a "who is celebrating this gaming holiday" thread and more of a "who is a CtrlAltDel fan" thread.

As for me, I'm indifferent towards CtrlAltDel. It's better than the average web comic, and the man is not completely without talent, but neither is John Elway and I'm not going to run around rubbing his jockstrap in the face of every person I see who may or may not have heard of American football.

Never liked CAD from day 1 my favorite was always megatokyo (megatokyo.com) because of the skill he shows in drawing everything by hand, no copy paste clip art type stuff.

Anyways like others have said whats the point in taking time off work for a video game, the people who actyually do take time off just to play a game usually do it for the few days after release not some random day because they feel like it.

Ok your new here so I'll try to make this painl- FUCKING RETA- no must show restraint. Ok most people on here do not like CAD so this thread will mostly be about thrashing Buckley and you. So good luck with y-ASSHO- I'm really sorry about that.

P.S. Your picture disturbs me please change it or more people will call you on it.
Wow. Just wow. Calm down!

Back to the topic in hand;

No, I certainly would not do anything for this "holiday" - I play games to often as it is!

It has always been my christmas traition to game myself into a coma during christmas, even befor I heard of CAD. by the way, I don't see why people complain about CAD, it's like their forgeting that it is a FREE comic and that you aren't loosing anything weather it is good or not.

I'll be celebrating it this year, last year I celebrated it in the first week instead of the last because of exams, this year I only have 2.

Considering the "Winter-een-mas" concept is a gimmick inserted into a webcomic for the sole purpose of giving an egomaniac a chance to live out his fantasies of being crowned the king of gaming and carried on the shoulders of his adoring subjects in a fictional video-game oriented dreamland he himself created for the sole interest of himself, it goes without saying that the very phrase "Winter-een-mas- brings my piss to a boil.

That's the kindest thing I can post here. I'm serious.

I've been wondering something for a while. Why doesn't Scott Kurtz (PvP) get any hate? He's done almost the exact same thing as Buckley for years, complete with slews of emotional sub-plots and a marriage. Is it because CAD is more popular than PvP?

Second order of business: jealousy. Not the traditional kind, with all the "he can do X better than me, and has Y and I don't" jealousy. I'm talking about the popularity of CAD turning so many against Buckley. As far as I can tell, it's the same argument just worded differently. "Buckley is a hack, I hate him, and he doesn't deserve to be this successful."

I think people lash out against this fellow not because his comics are particularly bad, but because people like them. They're angry because they see a discrepancy in his talent-to-popularity balance. Were it a lesser-known comic, I believe people would simply discover that they do not like it, move on, and forget about it. Unfortunately, due to it's absurd popularity, people decide that they are going to hate it instead of simply dismissing it as a form of entertainment or enjoyment that doesn't particularly appeal to them.

OH! I finally get his reference! I thought he was talking about the XCDK guy, with the stick guys and stuff.

But anyway, holly shit didn't think people hate that Buckly guy who apparantly makes CAD so much. I mean, seriously, there's so much pure hate for this guy it's unbelievable! I don't read CAD that much, every now and again I might look up on it and it's okay.

You know I find the amount of hatred he generates is hilarious

you'd think he's Uwe Boll or Hitler or something.

Ctrl-Alt-Del, like Penny Arcade, is hit or miss. They are also comics of two different formats. Penny Arcade enjoys avoiding "the dreaded continuity" especially because a lot of that doesn't come off too well (Paint the Line = Not as funny as I would've thought). Ctrl-Alt-Del on the other hand is much more story-driven.

And I like both, so at least I learned how to have normal-people reactions.

To be honest, I like ctrl+alt+del. I could care less if the creator is a douche,I still think the comics are funny to read and yes I(and my buddies) will certainly be celebrating Winter-een-mas next January!

It's really funny how everyone seems to get a boner off of bashing CAD, and telling us all how much more awesome Penny Arcade is, yet Penny Arcade is no better.

I doubt I'll be celebrating Winter-een-mass this year; I play games too much as it is.
Usually Penny Arcade isn't in the array of webcomics I read (VG cats, Explosm) but at least I can see the difference between them, for example, the characters in Penny Arcade actually have expressions on their faces, unlike Ctrl+Alt+Del were everyone seems to have suffered from a stroke.

Noone seemed to realise that the maker of that picture collection has obviously gone through the archives looking for people with that expression cos I really dont see it in the comic that much. You know how I know? Because most of those characters are ones that have only appeared once or twice in the history of the comic.
