95% of people have no taste in anything whatsoever. Their likes and dislikes are based on what other people like/dislike. I'm willing to bet that even a number of rabid CAD haters on this very forum did read his comic on a regular basis, then saw Yahtzee's little videorant and decided, "Man, if Yahtzee hates him then so do I!".

As for me, I read it and I haven't gotten a laugh out of it in a while. Reading it reinforces my belief that I could easily give up my job and make a killing on the internet, but don't out of sheer bone idleness and the lack of motivation required to create, host and maintain a webpage.

Yeaaah, I don't think that's going to hold up bud.

From his latest comic!

Vs.

I see the similarities. Do you?
Why can't people admit that what they like have flaws? I don't get it.
You like it? Fine! There's nothing wrong with that and no one will persecute you for it, but at least get the criticism.

I'd be happy to dig in at least some dozens of pages and point out more similarities if you want...
I get the criticism, I see the obvious similarities, and I admit that the comic isn't as good as other webcomics like penny arcade(which I really like), I just don't see why people give it attention by criticising it when they should just not read the comic if they dislike it so much. Expressing a negative opinion is fine, but I'm getting tired of people attaking something they don't like when it dosn't cost them, therefore anything that they find wrong with the comic shouldn't matter to them.

I thought this was about Winter-Een-Mas, not Tim Buckley and the hate you have for him.

:: Scratches chin. ::

Personally, I'll just play a little more than I usually do thanks to the time off. However, I must say this--

I like Buckley, and I like Yahtzee, and I don't feel the need to justify my liking of one with biased hatred of the other. They might not like each other, you might not like one or both of them, but I enjoy entertainment by itself, not polluted with drama, and it doesn't need to escalate into arguments whenever one or both are mentioned.

kthx :3

So all my arguments and gripes I have against his comic fall apart by the fact that I'm 'jealous' of him? That doesn't seem right. I mean I never aspired to be a webcomic writer in my whole life...

And I'm actually partial on this because I sincerely never read CAD. I didn't. I never followed the story, I never saw the drama with the miscarriage comic and I don't follow it now. But, I can see where the problem with CAD lies, if the thing was actually funny and did things right I'd probably read it along with VG cats and explosm.
... Am I the only one who sees the problem with this?

I really didn't intend to get into an argument over this, but I have to...

You, sir, are stupid.

I sincerely never read CAD. I didn't.
if the thing was actually funny and did things right I'd probably read it
So, what you're saying is, even though you've never read it you know it's not funny and doesn't do anything right.

...

This reminds me of when Fox News brought a lady onto the show to talk about Mass Effect after having spent the past few days not playing it, having absolutely no experience on it, and said that it was nothing more than a boobfest targeted at children to corrupt and destroy our society.

I'll try to get through this with as little "Buckley Bashing" as possible.

I will never celebrate a holiday, created in a crappy web comic, made by that hack, Buckly (yes, that was as little as possible).

If, however, Scott Ramsoomair were to make a gaming holiday in VGcats, I would definitely celebrate it (even if he would say it was one day, then delay it for like, a month).

I myself enjoy the comic. I don't really pay attention to the author though. if he is a prick, so what? it does not diminish, in any way, what I get out of the comic. most of what I see here is just Buckly Bashing, and all of it is purposeless. if someone likes the comic, then this will not likely change their opinion on the matter; and like-wise if they do not.
Back on topic, I will be having a small lan party with a few other gamers who like CAD as well. nothing extravagant. but still friggin fun! and that is the whole point. if I have fun with it, then so what? if you don't... then don't try and wreck my fun.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Buckley is a boil on the ass of society.
You know, I think my original statement applies perfectly to this. People hate him because they think he doesn't deserve to be as successful as he is because his comic is bad. While most likely true, my point stands. It's a webcomic, but it isn't good. He is successful anyways, so people hate him. Just because you find his comic to be not entertaining, suddenly he's a blight on the face of the earth?

Honestly, it's entertainment, and that's where it should end. If it doesn't entertain you, don't read it.

It's really funny how everyone seems to get a boner off of bashing CAD, and telling us all how much more awesome Penny Arcade is, yet Penny Arcade is no better.

I doubt I'll be celebrating Winter-een-mass this year; I play games too much as it is.
Penny Arcade is better for three reasons...

Twisp And Catsby
Paint the Line
The Rainslick Precipice of Darkness

Maybe it's more of a taste thing but Gabe's art and Tycho's writing are constantly evolving whereas Buckley has remained roughly the same for the past couple of years. As well Buckley just has no idea how to pace a joke.

Though mostly it's his attitude that makes me dislike him.
It helps that Gabe and Tycho can put together a hell of a con too.

In all seriousness, giving Gaming a holiday makes it feel all weird and cultish. The fact that Buckley seems to take it seriously is worrying.

Now "Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day" on the otherhand is some legitimate awesome.
Yes, it is. The guys from the Historical Pre-enactment Society always have the best costumes.

I really don't understand...

Don't lots of people get new consoles & games for Christmas anyway? Plus with the general trend of it being a worldwide holiday won't there be a lot of people gaming then, without somebody declaring peen-mas or whatever it is.

Can somebody explain how this thing actually works, or what constitutes celebrating this holiday as opposed to what people usually do at Christmas with new games.

I'll play more than usual during the time this fictional holiday falls on. Not to support the holiday, but rather because it is really fucking cold and I'd rather stay inside.

did buckley himself do something people dont like, or is it just people who dont like his comic refer to him instead of the work. i am impartial to the comic and its creator and i really am just curious what all the fuss is about. please give me a serious answer and not "omg he's gay and his comic isnt funny" or "CAD IS FRIGGIN AWESOME."
Buckley got himself in trouble for putting the moves on a 14-year-old girl online (really, the only way that could've ended any better would've been for the girl to invite him to her house and for Chris Hansen to show up and say "why don't you have a seat right there?") Of course, now the mere mention of the incident on CAD's forums serves as Buckley's personal Berserk Button and is grounds for an insta-ban, as is criticism of the comic, criticism of Buckley himself, and quite possibly criticism of anything Buckley has ever thought was even marginally decent. The guy's a narcissistic dictator type who draws a shitty webcomic and expects the world to bow down to his feet. And don't even get me started on "Ctrl-Alt-Del LIVE!"

I have to ask, was it really necessary to kill off little Billy? It just underscores my point that Buckley doesn't know when he's already made something funny. That strip would have been better if he had concluded after having the kid say that his traffic increased by 1000%. Also, if his traffic increased by 1000%, then wouldn't he have 11 readers? Think about it. 1 times 1000% IS 10, but an INCREASE of 1000% would be that 10 plus the base amount, 1.

That's great. Do you have anything to say about Winter-een-mas? Any reasons why you like CAD? Any arguments against those who don't? Any thoughts on the epic battle of Chocolate v. Vanilla Ice Cream?

Oh dear! A clerical error!

No, it wasn't necessary to kill Billy. My intent was not to direct you towards only the comic, but the commentary below the comic. It's a much better-structured argument than "shoot Billy!"

EDIT: Oh yes, and saying "Your comic is bad and you should feel bad" is probably the most ridiculous reasoning I've heard in a long time. It's a webcomic. Nobody is forcing anybody to read it. If you don't like it, don't. If- screw it, just read my above posts. I've already said all this.
