Accepting immortality is dumb. This question is like asking a child if he wanted to grow up instantly or have claws instead of fingers.

Without a moment's hesitation. I understand the consequences and pitfalls of such a life, but I maintain that I can do a world of good with the time I have - and I have a damn lot of it. I can become an expert in any field, an athlete in any sport and a master of any craft.

More than anything I can be the most reliable and accurate source of history humanity has in the next thousand years. I can tell children what the world was like before neuro-projection online game worlds, radiation-based performance enhancers, teleportation and ultra-porn.
With the limitations posited by the OP, you would not be able to do all of this. Your brain can only store so much information before you simply cant think the way you used to, and time will skew your memories long before then.
I'm happy with going insane and being an immortal legend of death and nightmares.

FFfffffffff.... Dang, there's a really good movie about something like this, but I forgot the name. Aaanyway:

1. I may not age, but I may be mutated. I mean, if there's a gummy bear that can give me immortality and it came from the future, there's certainly something that can keep me up with the times.

2. After a dozen of years I can just move to a different place, not necessarily far away, and after every few dozen of years I could pretend to be my own son.

3. If my body isn't aging, than it's only natural to assume my brain isn't aging either. That said, I don't remember all the bits and pieces of my life, so after 100 or 1000 years there won't be any real reason to remember the things from my earlier life, and they'll fade as I get new experiences.

4. I don't think I'd go insane. Knowing I've got all the time in the universe would pretty much null the whole feeling of time flying by as I've nothing to lose by its passing.

5. Meh, that could be ugly but it's better than not being alive. I simply cannot comprehend death. And who knows, pain being nullified I might be able to wiggle my way out of the rubble, and in case everyone dies it's just a matter of waiting for new life to be born.

So to sum it all up, gimme that candy please!

What happens when the Sun supernovas and engulfs the earth? Also, what if you don't like Gummi Bears? They contain a lot of e-numbers.

Meh, I'd ask him to come back once I've gotten rid of the flab and got my eyes sorted out. I wouldn't want to have to wear glasses for the rest of eternity.

If you read the linked article, you'd know they're not so much limitations as they're opinions of the article's writer. Though they are realistic, I just don't buy much into the brain storage one.

I'd eat it. I'd have an infinity of time to train my memory, and immortality would make me best at everything eventually.

As a side note; Idiocracy. Not evolving works the other way as well.

I definitely would! It would be really sad having to watch your family and friends growing old and dying, so i would probably be alone forever.... unless there was someone else immortal too! but the amount of knowledge you could gain being immortal, and the things you could achieve, that an ordinary lifespan would not be enough for, would be amazing!! also, if i couldn't die, i would be able to do things that would be fatal to a mortal! freezing myself in liquid nitrogen and setting a computer to wake me up in a couple billion years would be fatal for a normal human, but not for an immortal!! so saying hi to some aliens would be fun! or freak some people out by jumping off a really tall building, and walking away like nothing happened... :D

I read the article, but for the most part, the arguments are Heavily flawed:

Just watch the move: A man from Earth.

You mean I'll stay behind after the universal heat death? Well, compared to infinity, the time until that happens is approximately nothing(literally, not as a figure of speech) and that's kind of a big deal. Also, does my body heal through magic, is made invulnerable to permanent invury or something like that, or can I still lose parts of my body through injury? If so, when my body is shredded into subatomic particles by cosmic phenomenon, what exactly am I? Do I still somehow think and feel through magic? Or maybe I'm completely immune to bodily injury.

If I could choose when I pass away then I'd quite happily go ahead, im sure I would'nt be the only immortal around.

Also you say we would be left behind in evolutionary ways, just because we would maybe be behind doesnt mean we wouldnt be a valued addition, I mean honestly, history is made by the victors yet we have a proper first hand experience, we would be the most valued members of society due to our experience.

and what someone said earlier, learn all the skills youd need for a successful life, hell you have the time now. learn how to be the chessmaster of life.

Yes, I wouldn't mine being a freak of the future, I really don't think anyone would want to mess with someone who can't die, I don't mind forgetting things that would happen to me in the past, and if I had to remember, I would right it down, although they would probably have some way of having more memory in the future... Maybe some kind of hard drive which you put in your head... Anyway, I doubt time will go any faster just because I am immortal, and finally, if I am trapped, I would easily get out eventually, be it the world imploding or just some robot getting rid of rubble. Also, if I couldn't die then could I just launch myself into space if the human race dies out and find some alien race or just some random planet to live on (preferably in a luxurious rocket of the future)

Edit: Also what would happen if you cut off a limb or get blown up

I must contest the "time-speeding-up" thing. Logically, we perceive time as moving more quickly because our brains, as they age and gradually die, are processing information at a slower rate. If we are magically preserved in our prime, as the poll suggests, that degradation would be halted. Therefore, our perception of time would not speed up.

As for the memory thing, aren't there techniques for improving memory recollection and, for all intents and purposes, storage? Certainly these would only carry you so far, but eventually, as others have suggested, you would be able to augment your normal capacity, eliminating that particular problem.

Yeah, I'd take immortality. I'm more interested in what the future holds. Absolutely no investment in the present.
