To kill a figure of such historic importance could forever cripple us in ways we cannot imagine. Now the USA not constantly trying to relive its only true major military victory would probably be a good thing but god look at all the things round the word we attribute to the war. The fact the cold war never went nuclear is a testament to Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The current EU might never have become possible. NATO might never have been formed. The cold war might never have happened.

Yes by removing Hitler before the second world war ever kicked off could have saved millions, prevented the holocaust, but, what would have happened if we had never learnt those lessons when we did? What could we have done without the ability to look back on what happened?

Id much rather have the history we know, no matter how dark it might be, than risk provoking something far far worse.
My thoughts exactly, I would not kill Hitler. No matter how bad WWII was, the world might be in a worse place without it.

I don't think I would. What happened happened, and I would not want to risk a potentially worse world that could result. I'm not saying that one would, but it's possible, and I would not want to risk it.

I would confront him by calling him "a fucking tosser," eightball slap his daddy, and ask his mom where my money is! Then I'd take my new powers, go to the future, and kill Robot Hitler.

No, because it's impossible to tell what might happen because of it. Something far worse could have transpired.

No. I feel what Hitler did was necessary. We needed some thing like him, we needed to fight and show that what he did would not be stood for. Hitler was the best man to do it. If not him, some one else may have taken his place... Some one far wiser and less insane. One of the main reasons we won WWII was because Hitler was a paranoid fool. He went against the advisement of his Generals and made stupid mistakes (Sending troops into Russia).

If Hitler had not been the one to do this... Then some one else may have. That some one else may not have made silly decisions, he may have taken the advice of his generals. He may have won. So no... I would not have Hitler killed as a child, nor would I go back in time and kill him.

Don't take my words as admiration. I admire nothing he did and I think he was an evil, horrid monster. However I feel that the world needed to face something like this. WW2 united most of the world and for the most part, strengthened the alliance of many nations.

Someone else would simply take his place. And possibly be less insane and do better in WW2.

Hitler was driven by the harsh punishments given to Germany upon the end of WW1, and the humiliation of Germany having to take full responsibility for the war.

And just, time traveling in general is bad idea, paradoxes and changing shit and all that.

We're not in the middle of a post-apocalyptic nuclear winter, don't change history.

Short Answer: No, and you're a terrible person for considering it.

Long Answer: I refuse to kill someone for something they might do. I will not kill someone simply because of the potential risk they present. It's a simple matter of free will. Up until they actually do it, they always have the possibility of choosing not to, and I cannot in good conscience take that choice away from them.

That said, I would have absolutely no qualms about going to Germany in 1938 or so and killing him.

And change the course of history? No, even knowing what sick and dispicable acts he would later commit I would not change what happened even if I was able to.

No.

The temporal repercussions would be enormous, it could even make things worse.

I'd try to change his future first, if this was impossible. I'd probably kill him with Carbon Monoxide poisoning. I could never stand to shoot/stab/strangle a child.

This, I'd rather let history run it's course than risk something far worse.

I would go back and kill Uwe Boll before he decided that he needed to turn video games into atrocious movies. Either way a bad German man dies.

Exactly what I thought when I read this thread. Without Hitler, perhaps the National Socialist Party wouldn't have gained momentum. Germany may have kept collapsing under economic pressure, turning it into a third world nation. The Soviets might have picked apart at the pieces and slowly seized control, and then the Allies may have had to have a war against the Communists. Of course, I'd assume that would take longer than Hitler's blitzkrieg, so that could mean nuclear world war.

I would not use the time travel powers. I have no desires to change the past nor to view the future.

No. And this. Also, we have all those laws for crimes against humanity, laws against discrimination and so on, due to WWII. It was a terrible price to pay to get them, but we are now safe (for a long long time at least) from that happening any time in near future. If we prevent the WWII from occurring in the forties, it would have happened sometime later. Maybe even now. The Second World War didn't happen only because of Hitler anyway; it was a time of great tensions and terrible discrimination, not only in Germany. The past should never be changed.

No. Though what Hitler did was terrible, WW 2 ended the depression. Not only that, but if all those people that had died survived we'd have hundreds more millions of people walking around today, making the earth that much more crowded, and putting that much more strain on resources. I'm not trying to justify what the Nazis did. I'm just saying we might be worse off had Hitler not taken control of Germany.

Also, I'd just like to add: What Stalin did in Russia was way worse (or at least on the same level as) what the Nazis did, and yet you don't hear about it. Just strikes me as odd.

No, that would violate IATT Bulletin 1147 [http://www.abyssandapex.com/200710-wikihistory.html].
