And if you do it with your clone, it still counts as masturbation, right?
No, technically speaking, that would be incest. A clone of you is not you, but rather an identical twin brother/sister that you gained by unusual means.

Thinking about it, it'd be smart to decide not to kill the clone merely from a self preservation point of view. Assuming similar thought processes, you decrease the chance of them killing you by deciding not to kill them and banking on them doing the same, thus deescalating the situation. 'Cos if it does come down to a struggle, it'd be a toss up since you are equally strong, fast, smart and skilled.
Nah, it's actually more of a prisoner's dilemma. From an objective external point of view, the best option is for neither to try to kill the other, so both may live. That doesn't work when applied to the individuals however, because the best chance for the individual surviving is always to try to kill the other. (Spare+Spare = No Death, Spare+Kill = My Death, Kill+Spare = His Death, Kill+Kill = 50-50).

So strangely, if self-preservation is your main concern you have a 50-50 chance of dying, whereas if you're more bothered by the morality of it and don't mind risking your life to spare the other, then you're guaranteed to survive.

Luckily for me I would not be OK with murdering anyone, and I don't see how him being a clone makes him any less of a real person. It would pretty awkward at first I guess, but I could deal with not being the only version of me. Plus after a short amount of time our different experiences would make us essentially different people anyway, and the problem would become moot.

Every relationship you'd have to give up or share. You might lose your job or career. Essentially you'd be either losing half of your life, or having to share it with yourself.
So the question really boils down to,: would you rather kill someone or leave your life behind and move away. I seriously do not hope anyone would consider the first option, but apparently around 25% would..

I've been thinking about this recently?how 'you' is any version of you in the past? Are we anything more than our collection of experiences mixed with our natural way of handling those experiences? Does the *instant* we have a new experience change us entirely?

We often look back at ourselves years later and think, "Wow. I'm not that guy anymore." Doesn't it happen sooner than that?

The chemicals and electric signals that make up my head as I type this right now will be different (I assume :p) than they will when I press Post. Arguably, the instant that you and your clone have a differing experience, you are no longer 'the same person.'

I would?and I have to assume my clone would agree with me?ask how the significant people in my life would want to handle this. Theoretically, whichever of us was wearing my wedding band is the 'real' me, but that doesn't mean the other's memories and feeling aren't just as real. If we determine who is 'real' and who is the clone (or hell, we can flip a coin) we can have one person continue to live as I/we have, and the other gets to go hardcore #YOLO. 'Quit' my job and go do everything we've always been too afraid to do. Shit--he may contact me later and convince me to join him! ...he may come back wracked with misery that he left (what he thought to be) his wife.

I lost my train of thought. What'd I say about brain chemicals?

I should go get a drink.

Have fun, internet!

Wait...where's the bit where I'm asked why I'd want to?

I guess the answer is no since I'm not being threatened in any way given the OP's premise. Secondly...it's still murder. Thirdly, is this some freaking magical doppelganger? A clone doesn't just inherit your life just because they're identical to you. :/ Then again, as this kind of thing hasn't really come up in a modern court it's all speculative.

Really? Killing someone, just because he makes life harder for me? Come on, we all know that's wrong.

Not to mention, if YOU want to kill your clone, your clone also wants to kill YOU.

Knowing me we would bond over the joke of Four Swords(well two swords in this case) and wear shirts to correspond as such. We could become good buddies, or I would realize I am not fun to hang around with, and we could go our separate ways.

Now if the clone was trying to kill me, then yes of course I would kill him before he kills me, but if he is supposed to be just like me, then he would be afraid to spend the rest of his life in jail for murder.

I would more than likely have sex with my clone...

OT: Can't say that I would, mind you... It's not like someone like me would get away with it without getting arrested somehow... #blackpeopleproblems

If I could kill him easily and with no consequences... I would do that.

The amount of social problems I could avoid by doing that would be very convenient. I also wouldn't think of my clone as an equal life, honestly. It's the fact that he has everything that makes me who I am inside of him. It would feel like theft. If he was just a biologic clone, but had different memories and experiences... I'd be more than fine with him.

I would, in this order:

1) Have sex with my clone

2) Debate having a fist-fight with my clone

3) Figure out an existence where we can share our wealth, etc and work together for a better existence

4) Consider committing some crimes while having the perfect alibi

5) ???

6) More sex with said clone.

Putting aside the obvious problem, ie. murder, I'm fairly fond of myself, and while the clone is not actually me, at least we'll share interests. More likely, one of us will simply use our other name (I already go by my middle one after all, so he gets first if he wants. Or I could be convinced to switch I suppose) and we go about our days as basically normal twins. I seriously never understood where all this clone angst comes from in fiction. You share looks, you (might) share memories, but beyond that, you're not the same guy, so do what you like. He's not any less human for the experience, no less a person, so...yeah, basically I have a twin now.

The clone doesn't inherit your life, but:
1. No one can tell the difference between you two
2. For all intents and purposes, to your clone this life is theirs. They've "experienced" all of this. It's not a matter of them needing a reason to steal your life, it's them needing a reason to give up theirs for you to keep yours.

Maybe it's an easier choice because I doubt most people here are married, or have kids. But how would someone choose which of themselves would have to step aside and lose their family? Or maybe you and your spouse would be open to splitting their time and love between both of you? I feel like that's an option very few people would prefer.

And I think it's very different than killing someone who makes your life more difficult. As I mentioned in an earlier post you would be killing someone who'd also have decided that they'd be willing to risk their life instead of splitting every relationship and asset they've gotten a hold of. Well, depending on how you view choice, this is assuming you believe that someone who shares your personality and experiences would make the same decision moments after your experiences split

I couldn't bring myself to do it. In the wise words of Captain Malcolm Reynolds... I'm just too pretty to die.

What to name him now though.... Decisions...

It might work out. I don't like the idea, though. My first thought is kill, I don't want to spend my life comparing myself to another me, and knowing that the clone is myself down to a T, it would devalue all the fun of having a relationship. There's no "Wow! You agree with me!" or "I'm so glad you think that." because it's just boring old me.

It would really depend on a number of factors. If I know I'm the original, does the clone know he is the clone, and does he accept that? If so, knowing myself, I believe he could probably be convinced to choose a new name and start his own life and while I can't say I would be jumping for joy I could tolerate that. If he thinks he is the original and intends to come gunning for my life then I would put him down. Preferably by suffocation or a method that minimises tissue damage so I could have the body cryogenically frozen and have access to "spare parts" when my body starts wearing out.

Would I kill an exact copy of myself, who knows me, my skills, mind, interests and thoughts on the world?

Hell no!

If anything, this would be awesome. With an extra me, I'll be able to pursue my other passions that I don't always have time for and I could also do twice as many tasks with him at my side. Plus, I'll have some company to go to events that not too many people I know would be interested in.

I was under the impression that the fight would not be who is the real one. It would be who does all the work and who takes the credit.
