A guy sitting in a tent on the outskirts of the carnival tells me that pushing a button will magically kill my family and give me money at the same time?
Yeah, this seems legit.

I'd probably push the button. Partially because I wouldn't take this guy seriously at all, partially because it's a motherfucking red button. Red buttons are made to be pushed dammit.

Parents? Nah, guess i won't

If i can choose an aunt or uncle of mine though it would be a different story.

Even if they would be included in the, let's call it a raffle, I would press the button.

The chance of any of my 3 aunts and 3 uncles dies is higher than my folks biting the bullets.

Doesn't matter if it's a family member or a stranger, a million or a billion. It's murder.
No, I don't push the button.

That's tough. Most of my immediate family I hate, but I might get unlucky and hit someone I actually like by pressing the button.

Would probably decline.

i dont care if its my family or a complete stranger somewhere in the world and doesnt matter the ammount you offer. there is no way in hell i would press that and id sure as hell do what ever i can to destroy that thing
You pretty said everything I was going to say. Family member, friend, complete stranger, or any amount of money. Hitting that button would be downright evil.

I'm pretty certain that this was a short story called "Button Button" by Richard Matheson. It was made into a Twilight Zone episode, and a Richard Kelly film (which was kind of amazing, in a "this is poorly wrought out" kind of way).

Nope. Give me all the money you want and I still won't kill anyone for you, let alone my family. I'd rather have dignity and morality than money.

No on principal alone, even if I could choose who the immediate family was since I care for all of them a lot, although perhaps to a lesser extent with some than others, and I don't even think a greater amount of money would tempt me since I'd have to live with what I'd done for the rest of my life.

Now if it was someone from my extended family? Shit there's like a queue of contenders for the honour of dying so we can all be richer.

Not for any amount of money. My family may piss me off, but they've done a lot for me, and I would never do anything to harm any of them. If I could choose one of the 7 billion people on this planet to die I'd be hammering that button like a Whack-A-Mole game (Africa would be a much better place if certain high level government figures would just keel over and die already) but I wouldn't press that button for anyone who deserved it.

As long as the death was painless, yea, sure. I'm not really very attached to my immediate family. But I wouldnm't wish suffering on any of them, so if it was some horrible tortuous death, no deal. Otherwise show me the money.

Here's what you do. You reveal to the figure that your whole family is dead and that you're his long lost son. Then you look him in the eye and push the button.

Frankly I don't think I'd push the button even if it were someone not necessarily in my family.

Knowing myself, I probably would push it out of sheer curiosity, to be fair there is no way I would believe the button is actually capable of doing that, I'd probably think that it's some sort of prank or social experiment, so yeah I'd probably press it just to see if it'll flash me sign saying I'm the worst person that has ever lived or something, I'm not really sure what I'd think or do if it actually works though.
If someone's willing to really give you a million dollars to see if you'd kill a family member, that person is sick. So sick, that he or she probably spent other untold amounts of money to either track your family down and hook them up to a device that will fire when you push the button. Or at least tell someone he hired to shoot them.

The answer for meis no. to anyone. My conscience goes crazy if I don't hold the door open for people and I feel like the worst person in the world. This would kill me.

In the end, that person would be stopped. Even if I die doing, I would stop this person for the same reason I do anything; It feels like the right thing to do for me and others.

I know life isn't sunshine and good intentions. That doesn't mean I should stop trying to do what I think is right.

*pauses uncomfortably* No... because I know the one family member that will die once I press that button... and I will never live with myself if they died like that... *sheds a single tear*

What happens if you have no living next of kin/immediate family? does it kill your close friends? a random person? a pet?

If it was random people I would want to know if I could press it more than once. (Heck I'd press it for 100k$.) If it must be my family members I wouldn't press it because they are too important to me.
