Poll: Yazhtzee's cash value

Based on the number of hits he brings to The Escapist, I'd say he better be making a good amount of money. However, his job is to make a ~5 minute video once a week (and, I suppose you could include the gaming necessary to "research" for the video). That doesn't sound like he puts in a 40+ hour day.

I think we'd all be pretty impressed if he could do that.

OT, though, I feel sorry for the guy - one a week does sound like a lot of pressure, and I don't really know how he copes with it.

Though I don't think he gets paid, or deserves, a fortune.

My grandpa used to have to work 40-hour days. And he had to walk uphill both ways to work, through blistering snow and raging tornadoes, while crazy reds shot at him from the hills. And all he had was some boxer shorts and a pocket knife.

Or at least that's what he told me.

He should get a teacher's wage. He is, after all, functioning as one. He's giving people critical analysis skills, and anyone who's studied education would know that's the legalese for "you're doing it right".

He writes and animates those videos. By himself.

So do youtubers, what's your point? I realize that Yahtzee's videos aren't *completely* effortless, but I doubt that writing 5 minutes of bile and animating it is that big of a drain on his life. It's black and white cutouts on a plain yellow background for fuck's sake. South Park takes more effort than that and they can crank out a half hour in a few days.

That having been said, and as others have pointed out, he already turned down a paycheck once for being to small. I guess regardless of whether he deserves it, he gets enough to keep doing it, otherwise he wouldn't be here, would he?

As an aside, I can't think of anyone in the video game journalism industry that deserves a paycheck either, so I guess my point is moot.

For those commenting on how it must be hard to keep coming up with stuff for ZP: have you paid attention to the industry at large lately? It's like George W. Bush is president - there's no end to the material available! It's like the industry screws up in ways that write his videos for him!

well he does get more views then many t.v. shows trust me it was in a small interview type thing of him on youtube. also he pretty much gives free publicity in it he said that after reviewing painkiller the company contacted him and said that in the first few hours after it posted that the sales TRIPLED that is a whole fucking lot for one critics opinion

he should get enough o have a comfortable life and not need to worry about money. he shouldn't be a millionaire or anything but a comfortable life would be adequate.
