Hand it in to the police. Regardless of my feelings about guns, I'm pretty sure that taking a loaded gun off of the street and keeping it is probably highly illegals and I'm doubting the police are going to be messing around when it comes to firearms.

Guns in the UK are a strict liability. Even if I took it straight to a police station and handed it in, I would be arrested and likely charged for carrying a firearm. So no, I wouldn't touch the damn thing.

However if you phoned the police and informed them of the location of the gun, you'd be in no trouble and the police would probably thank you. Or even if you took the gun home and phoned the police, they couldn't arrest you for carrying a firearm.

i'd call the police and report the location of a gun before walking off, i'm english, so i couldn't hand it in without being arrested for carrying a firearm, and i can't even bring myself to punch my most hated enemy in the face when i'm at my most infuriated, so using it is out of the question, and why the hell would you want to keep a gun and never use it? that's just begging to be arrested

The most probable reason for a gun to be on the side of the road is if it was used in some kind of crime and the user tossed it afterward to get rid of the evidence. In that case it's a REALLY bad idea to keep it, touch it, or in any way be associated with it.

Well....anyway, the obvious responsible answer is don't touch it and call the cops, let them deal with it.

I mean, in my state, almost everyone (of lawful disposition) either has a gun already or exercises proper gun maintenance. A stray gun on the road only gets there is its been ditched after a shooting, which makes it important to report, as it could tie in to a case the cops need it for.

Inspite of any potential evidence i might destroy or contaminate, While the gun is there and loaded it is a threat to myself as the person whom ever dropped it may come back. and if they do i would much rather them not Having a loaded weapon with me in the immediate vacinity. after all the only reason you would drop a loaded gun is if you where doing something illegal.
