Not mine, but my friend's computer is beyond hope. Even worse, he's too ignorant to see that he desperately needs an upgrade.

CPU - Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz single core
GPU - nVidia GeForce 5400 integrated
RAM - 1 GB DDR 400
HDD - 40 GB 5400 RPM IDE

The case is dusty as all hell because he hasn't EVER cleaned it. Seriously, instead of cables, I opened it up to see PURE DUST AND CAT HAIR. He also leaves his files all over instead of organizing them. He never defrags. He never scans for spyware, malware or viruses. He just does not take care of his computer, plain and simple.

Oh, and he has a CRT monitor. I find that a bit insane in today's world.

Mine, however, won't need upgrading when Skyrim comes out, and can run Crysis 1 (the badly optimized one) at 80+ fps at maximum settings.

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 3.0 Ghz quad core
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 5770
RAM - 4GB DDR3 1600
HDD - 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA

I clean out my case monthly, I organize EVERYTHING I CAN. I defrag and do all my scans weekly, while I'm at college, in fact.

He's also an ignorant fuck about anything and everything, while I'm extremely open-minded. He's bad with spelling and grammar, while I'm a grammar Nazi. We have the perfect little yin-yang thing going on.

Yeah my old Toshiba was still sporting 512mb RAM lol and a 1.7ghz single core Centrino. I couldnt even play Half Life 2 without crippling lag. I upped the RAM to 1 gig. But then it overheated and died about 2 years ago. It had a nice run of about 5 years. Then I bought a Gateway FX laptop with 4 gig RAM and 360 gig HDD,Nvidea GeForce 9800M GTS with 1gig RAM after it died. The processor is still a bit sluggish. its a Dual Core 2.27 Ghz. But for a 2 year old laptop im still very happy with it.
Reading this its crazy how fast these things go. Some people curse consoles for holding platforms like PC back, personally, im almost glad because otherwise everyone would end up having to buy a completely new PC once a year. Not to long ago a dual core 2.27 ghz was crazy high end. Now, you can be glad if you can even start games like Bad Company 2 without the processor shitting itself and shutting down or burning.
laptops are not generally known for great power sir, part of how they make them fit on your lap.
Actually, thats completely not fucking true. It depends on the laptop.
I'm sorry, I thought I said generally. perhaps it slipped my mind.

Hardware wise? PC is a beauty.

The only problem is my family can't afford decent internet. Getting games off steam is a pain to say the least.

My PC is extremely well balanced. There is no specific part that I would replace above all the others right now, as they are all about mid-range gaming (Able to handle very high settings on modern games, but only about 40fps).

My pc HAD an issue where it would randomly shut down, but from what i read on the internets it was a problem with windows 7 or something, and its been fixed now... so i dunno.

EDIT: My PC is quite resonable, it can run pretty much whatever i want it to NOW, but with the higher end games coming out soon it might start to be a little strained. But it can run Crysis on Maximum, which was pretty awesome back when i got it a while back.

1200W PSU
Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 Video Card
AMD Phenom II x4 965 processor (3.4GHz)
8GB DDR3 RAM
Liquid Cooling
Windows 7 (64 bit)
(2) 500GB hard drives in RAID 0

You tell me what the weakest link is.

My computer(/laptop) is great. I have yet to encounter a game it can't run at least decently. However, it has a tendency to overheat and shut down rather frequently, which is EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

This is another one of those threads where the answer is totally ambigious and depends on what you want to accomplish at a certain time.

You might as well have asked what the best form of transportation is. I can tell you then that if i plan to travel long distance, I'll take the plane, train or car. If i want to travel a few kilometers, I'll just grab public transportation. I want to get in better shape or not pay anything, I'll run or take my rollerskates/bike. If i hate getting wet, I'll pick the car when it's raining etc. etc.

My case pre dates every other object inside by more then a generation. Some parts are held on by duct tape.

It's not ambiguous at all. You have a PC? What part if it is dragging down YOUR experience? Of course it will depend from person to person but it doesn't mean it's not fun to share. You should know what you do most on your PC, and if you do a lot of different things from gaming to encoding then maybe you need more than one part. Doesn't really matter, it's just a fun topic for PC nerds like myself.

My motherboard is dragging my PC down to gaming hell. It's an 6yo Gigabyte with DDR2.

I keep telling myself I'm gonna upgrade it soon, but september won't come fast enough so the temperatures here can be lowered(there is around 35+ degrees here every day).

My processor, 2.2 Ghz is absolutely sad, meanwhile my 9800 Geforce video card is plugging along quite nicely.

I'm not too sure on how reliable canyourunit is.
I don't like CanYouRunIt? because it doesn't take into account what graphical quality settings or screen resolution you're planning to play the game with. Not to mention "Recommended" can mean a whole bunch of different levels of performance depending on the game. Sometimes the recommended settings means, "You'll scrape by at medium settings." Or recommended could mean, "This'll run smooth as butter on CRAZY HIGH MAXED settings." Or it could mean anything else.

Maybe I'm wrong about all this? Anyone know better than I? It's likely someone here does.
I agree with you about Canyourunit?. It just says if your computer passes the minimum or recommended requirements. It doesn't give any specifics. For example it says that I can run the first Witcher with recommended settings but I still have to tweak the settings quite a bit before it runs smoothly. What I mean is that I would like to have a little more specifics.

OT. My processor and video card. My laptop is surprisingly powerful but those prevent me from playing all the games. Also heating is sometimes a real issue
