It really depends on the game. Sometimes sniper is the most enjoyable, blowing off someone's head from a few hundred metres away (In Fallout 3 for example.), or (As in COD4) using a semi/automatic gun. Which gives you good enough aim to snipe anyway.

In realistic games, I usually stay with the bread-and-butter weapons like my trusty 'ol M16. However, I have been known to pick up whatever I can use if I find myself deep behind enemy lines and running out of ammo.
I enjoy sniping, but I only do it in games where it can be done right like ArmA or ArmA 2 (although I have yet to try ArmA 2 MP). Sniping isn't sniping unless you are 500m away, hiding behind dense brush, and using the sound of a helicopter flying overhead to mask the sound of your shot. Really, nothing else comes close.
In less realistic games, I will usually going with whatever 'Doom-weapon' they toss in. I rather enjoy BFGs, particle cannons, mini-nuke launchers, and shoulder fired quantum torpedo launchers.
I third Left4Med's choice in zombie elimination devices! FN is Belgian for, "Dead Zombie," after all.

Special Auto/Semi. Like to use LMGs when gaming. Loads of ammo and tough, and if I set it out right (like picking certain classes or weapon setups), the spread isn't as bad. And reoading them looks cool aswell.

My favourite weapon would probably beeeeeeeeeeeee the above in reality, but as I don't know a game with them the Gravity Gun from Half Life 2, real life weapon, a plank of wood with some nails in it.
