I'd defend my turf, but I wouldn't enlist to go abroad to fight.

I generally don't really agree with my country, but I fucking like my house to not be full of invading bullets...

If England ever got invaded, I'd enlist, and defend her the best I can. But otherwise, nah.

Keep in mind that noone knew about the concentration camps in WW2 until the soldiers just happened to stumble across them. In hindsight it was pretty obvious Hitler needed to be stopped, but at the time it all started for the US with a few thousand people dying in Hawaii.

But you're right; America did rock up to the war too late, after they eventually realised that it could affect them, yet they continue to act as though they fucking single-handedly won it. I don't see what America's questionable antics have to do with my decision. I maintain that I would not arbitrarily fight in a war I knew nothing about, and if I were to die fighting, it sure as hell wouldn't be for my country.

I said no because I didn't read the OP properly, but I'd say that if war came to Australia I'd have a better chance of defending my self and my family with military ordinance than with a cricket bat.

Actually, it's for tanks, helicopters, ships, etc. And most, if not all, missiles are guided by thermal locking.

Though could I first inquire as to the nature of this war? Who are we fighting? I wouldn't sign up to the military no matter what, but if it's, say, a Nazi invasion I'd probably join some kind of resistance, but if, say, Belgium and Britain had come to blows but both countries were still nice and democratic and human rights observing ect. ect. then I'd probably just wouldn't join a resistance.

I live in Iceland. We don't HAVE an army, so I guess that means I default to "No".

Besides, no war here would take thousands of lives, they'd just bring warships into the harbors and we'd go all white flag.

Funny thing though is that I could only fight on the homefront anway since the acting constitution of my country forbids the army to fight abroad. It's a completely defensive army and it's official purpose is to deter the enemy at the border until real military arrives.

Innocents are dying, family and friends are enlisting; Do you all value your own life so over the life of others, to the point where you let others go to war in your place? Where is your sense of duty, perhaps not for your country, but at least for your fellow human beings?

Polls like this point out exactly what's wrong with people.

I'm not saying you should risk your life for your country or it's goals; I am saying that you should risk your life to protect those who can't protect themselves in times portrayed above.

... And seriously people, even when your family and friends are enlisting you are still doubting?

Problem is, I'm one of those people who can't protect themselves.
I wouldn't even last the basic training.
If I did enlist, they'd look at my medical history and laugh.
