So, Escapist, I ask you: which moral choice do you most often go with? Do you prefer to be a saint, with everyone loving you and praising your deeds, or do you prefer to be a terrible, evil baby eater? I know some games don't allow you to be neutral (Bioshock, for example), but is that what you prefer to be when allowed? Or does it depend on the game (ie: perhaps in Infamous, you chose to be evil, but the idea of sucking the Little Sisters dry just never appealed to you).

I prefer to play good the first time, because it tends to be easier, then if I enjoy the game, I'll play through as a complete *****, murdering all who stand in my way.

How about you?

Usually good, but depends on how I'm feeling. After playing Duke Nukem, I couldn't help but be evil in Fallout.

Calumon: I'm good, because when I'm good, Jack gives me Cake! ^^

I usually look at the options, get pissed off that good is the "correct" option, then kill anyone who is no longer useful, since that's the only way I can seem to be evil and get all the stuff I want.

Good first time through, then evil.

Being evil is just too damn fun.

Good, because I choose the options I think I would honestly make. I occasionally do something "bad" but in proportion it'd be something like 95% Good, 5% Evil.

In games with no moral choice such as GTA however, I am one sadistic bastard.

Also, being Evil feels tacked on and pointless:

Fallout 3: You can murder every innocent person in the wasteland, blow up the towns and steal everything in sight. You will still end up fighting for the BOH against the evil Enclave and save the wasteland.

Mass Effect 1+2: You will butcher everyone who looks at you funny, insult everyone who comes across your path but your squad will still love you and you will still save the galaxy (twice).

I depending on the game engine (i.e choices effect the outcome) I would play good first then Evil or vice verca if I brought the game on a good/evil day

If it's that black and white I'll choose Good. But to be honest I prefer moral choices when either option is a reasonable one. Or when either option has a negative outcome. Case in point, Dragon age: origins.

That game is full of moral choices where either option is a reasonable one. Like choosing which candidate should be the next dwarf king. You've got the old guy who seems nice but wants the dwarfs to be reclusive making them more isolated from the rest of the world. Then you've got the rebel son, as asshole but he wants to spread the dwarfs to the outside, strengthening the relationships with the dwarfs and the other races. Can you honestly say that choice is so black and white?

I almost always go good, because I get very attached to storylines and characters, and when being evil means being a jerk to someone, I feel really guilty in the real world (probably a sign that I have actual massive guilt I should deal with or face pyschotherapy for years).

Sometimes I play a quite neutral character, but I often find that there isn't a good neutral option, just a bland one.

I want a neutral character in the way that Han Solo is neutral, willing to do good things, but making sure he gets compensated for it. Most games either you do something and don't get paid (good) or demand payment (evil). I want the mercenary character who will do good things, but does still expect a fair price, without being branded as the devil, but I suspect this is beyond the reach of most game developers.

Good one. I don't like jerks, and i don't want to be one - in game or in real life. Without provocation, at least.

Maybe because in real life my morality can be described as "Lazy Good". I'm no superhero, but still help people occassionaly.

Usually I'll go evil, I find it more fun for the most part. Unless good will get me something I want, evil just suits me better.

Chaotic Good, most of the time. I'll save the world, but I'll do it by my own terms, assholes.

My default seems to be evil if it is limited to black and white. If a game allows for shades of grey I still tend to favor the evil path, but try to do it in such a way that im not just killing for the sake of being a prick.

If an action doesn't serve my goals then I am just as likely to be good assuming I get more out of it that way.

I usually have two saves going at once, one being evil (my favourite) and one being good (to play when my girlfriends in the room, she hates games where you shoot innocents)

Everytime i think, the first time i'll play good and the second time i'll play evil but in the end i end up playing good again...sigh even in games I can't be a evil person.
