Depends. If they don't have laces I'll take them off but if they do I tend to leave them on. I'm lazy :p

They're usually on. We have hardwood and tile flooring, not exactly the most comfortable barefooted.

I take them off. I guess it's an Asian thing that I had to be taught, but I didn't realize that until kinda recently. I always thought of the practical reason of not trekking dirt around the house.

I wear mine nearly all the time unless I'm really hot or I just took a shower. I've actually been known to sleep in my shoes. Why? Because one day I made the mistake of not looking down and it turns out my dachshund took a dump in the house. Dog crap is slippery and I nearly fell on my ass. The dog no longer does that but I'm not risking it.

I hate dirty floors because they make dirty feet. That being said, I am the only one who actually cares enough to not wear shoes around the house (among other things), so the floor is always gritty and dirty (It's hardwood, not carpet). I leave them on until I get to my room.

I float ominously everywhere I go, so I have no need for your pathetic human "shoes"

I prefer hiking boots to shoes. In any case, I take off my footwear when I enter a building; I prefer to keep the floors clean.

Sometimes. I like to think that I'll go out again sometime later in the evening so I keep them on [small](I never do, though. :p)[/small]. But if it's the weekend or friday, then the shoes are to be nowhere near my feet for the next 60 hours!

Everyone I know takes shoes off when in their own or someone else's house. I didn't even know some people in America keep shoes on in the house for quite a long time. In any part of Canada I've been to, its shoes off when you enter a house unless it a house party because people will actually steal your shoes.

If I did not take my shoes off my mother would kill me.

No seriously, this is not a joke.

I take them off immediately. I live in a place where winter can last up to 6 months. That and the ensuing spring can make the house quite filthy in short time.

Plus, it's so much more comfortable not wearing any shoes. So it's either socks in the winter time or bare feet in the summer time.

My house: leave them on unless my feet get warm or I am lying down.

Other's house: Take them off at the door, for politeness.

How often I take them off depends on the shoe. If it is a light breathable running show, it will stay on almost all day. If it is a heavy leather walking shoe, it usually comes off quick.

I take them off - there's seems to be some kind of convention in my parents culture that we take our shoes off indoors. In my friends' homes, where their parents come from Western backgrounds, I find that it's usually okay to keep them on. I don't mind either way, really, but I like being able to put my feet up wherever I want in the house without having to first remove my shoes.

I wear shoes and socks as little as possible. Of course I feel the same way about the rest of my clothing.

I usually keep them on until I sit down, where I'll realize they're getting uncomfortable, and at which point I will remove them from my feet.
