I wouldn't call it a review, unless we're giving the word it's broadest possible meaning.

In one sense it is... but I definitely don't treat it like one. Let's face it if anyone followed ZP as a review, you'd only own the 5 or so games.

I watch it, 'for teh lulz', as it were.

Well I decided to join escapist today after watching several ZP videos.

To answer the threadstarters question: Its a little bit of both because he has many good points (see his wii sports resort video) and he is also fair.

But I just love his cynical way reviewing and I believe when most gamers who are 23 and older agree and are just as cynical when they see which direction the gaming industry is heading:
M$ and Project Natal,Nintendo now turned fisher price, and Sony now also jumping in with their own dildo shaped controller.

Well thats my rant about the motion controller but what ZP said about no physical feedback makes the motion controller unimmersive is so true.

both I say [as I play the copy of Saint's Row 2 I rented, hoping Yahtzee doesn't find out about it and I]

A review would indicate a fair, balanced and unbiased opinion. Three things that Ben Croshaw does not include in his Zero Punctuation "Reviews" are exactly that, a fair, unbiased and balanced opinion.

Yahtzee is not actually reviewing anything, he is just stringing together 4-5 minutes of hate into a parody of a review that is often times damn hilarious, but I believe that is also why he has been branching out into the "Extra Punctuation" segments, because with those, he can break away from the Zero Punctuation Shtick and be taken seriously as a voice on games and gaming culture.

Absolutely both. It's funny, and it discusses aspects of a game after playing.

Just because it isn't calm and rational doesn't mean it's not a review.

Both.

Reviews are still reviews, no matter how much you disagree with them. And it's funny. So both.

I honestly don't care. He seems to hit a lot of points I agree with, and he does it in a refreshingly humorous way.

I mostly watch the episodes 'just for the lulz' but he sure got some interesting points in each review.

I'll very rarely be swayed on my game purchases by what Yahtzee has to say, I see them mostly as entertainment.

well... by default he is a "CRITIC" not a reviewer, he doesn´t review a game, he criticizes it, and it haves helped me look past some of the most amazing titles and realize that they are not as good as they seem

that little feeling of "its great!! but..." he points out exactly my thoughts :p

It's both. He tells his honest opinion of the game, and makes contsant jokes about it. Without both harsh honesty and great humor, it's not ZP.

At first he was just comedy but nowadays he just doesnt seem as funny to me and I see him more as a really good reviewer who can use Metaphors and Similies like a University English Teacher
I see what you did there..

He's both but biased on the review part for comedic effect.

A little of both, but definitely a lot more emphasis on comedy as opposed to reviewing. He's a decent reviewer, don't get me wrong, but I can take him a lot more seriously simply as a comedian than a reviewer.
