Your example is not ironic, it's surprising, it would be ironic if she had moved away because there were no good guys there.
You hit the hammer on the head there.

please learn the correct usage of the word ironic.....
Now YOUR post is ironic!

Edit: Since the OP said he didn't like it when people don't actually contribute to discussion I'll add this:

Polls are fine as long as the discussion calls for a poll. If they make 2 options and then throw in a couple "I liek monkeys wearing spaceboots" options they might as well just post random bullshit and get hammered. By a mod. Hard. For being such a waste of peoples time.

But i'll still vote for monkeys wearing spaceboots. Every time.

its not ironic because its a thread about why polls are annoying. it was pretty obvious that there wouldnt be a poll attached.

this is an example of ironic

a woman from NY city moves to LA to find a husband, she meets a man and they get married, it turns out that he just moved from the same part of NY city also..

this is ironic because. the reader would not expect or predict that the person she marries was also from NY..
Irony has nothing to do with being unexpected, it's to do with being against the entire point.

Your example is not ironic, it's surprising, it would be ironic if she had moved away because there were no good guys there.
What this guy said. It's not just unexpected. Your example is wrong.

One example I like to use is this: If a porn star moved to Gangbang, Ohio, that wouldn't be ironic. If she moved to Virgin, Mississippi, however, it would be.

Yep... sigh, im tired, okay? Didnt get a wink of sleep last night, don't know why.
Fair enough, I woke at 2 this morning and thought it was 7, so I had a shower.

Then I realized it wasn't 7....

Polls are useful if you want some statistics.

The statistics may be very inaccurate, but it is fun nonetheless.

i thought it went without saying that she moved to find a husband.. ie she couldnt find one in NY

irony isnt just being against the entire point. its deeper that that.

Of course it's deeper than that, but have you ever heard that you can't have a definition for irony, and that the internet say's that I'm right.?

this is a horrible example. it does not apply. what is ironic about a pornstar moving to a place called virgin. its not ironic because its soo obvious. so try again

It isn't ironic if something was unexpected. Thats just something being unexpected. It would be ironic, however, if an event was the opposite of what was expected. Theres a difference. There are several uses of irony, I'd suggest you read into it.

ok yeah you are just as right as i am. i know about irony. there are different types, verbal, situational and so on. part of being ironic isnt just being the opposite , because that wouldn't be ironic.. it would just be the opposite. or an oxymoron

maybe you should read your own link...
