Don't give me wrong, i LOOOOOOOVED Portal 2 so much. One of the best game of all time and a almost perfect sequel to the original. But after finishing the game, I've notice that some of the mechanic, shown in the trailer, were never use. I'm talking about the air shaft used to blow turrets away called "Pneumatic Diversity Vent". And some of the chamber in those trailer, weren't in the game. And i missed it. For a game that short it's a problem. What you're opinion?

Ps: i'm french so my english is far from perfect. I did my best, hope you understood me ^^
Ps 2: I'm in SPAAAAAAAAACE (the new "the cake is a lie")

Yea I was wondering about that as well. Maybe it's exclusive to the coop?
No, finished the coop too, no sign of this Pneumatic Diversity Vent :(

Just finished the co-op and it is not in there.
OT: maybe they just found it wasn't very useful for puzzles, and that gravity beam, with its reverse the pull feature might of replaced it, making it redundant.

In the video, it's look pretty cool. Put turrets with it, looks damn impressive. If they made the video to show the game ply mechanic it's means that the thing was really far develop. Perhaps for Portal 3 or some expansion pack.

It was in the game but they didn't use them in puzzles, I guess they didn't have enough use other than killing turrets.

I noticed this as well. You do go through one in the story and they're dotted around the place, but nowhere else other than that

I haven't seen it in the coop yet either. I was mildly disappointed when I was done being totally overwhelmed by how AWESOME it was.

But you're right, it's a pity. I'm sure they would have had their reasons, though.

Maybe they thought it would make the puzzles too easy? Sure it would be fun the first couple of times, but it'd get old. And maybe there were too many mechanics in use, and they were worried that they might be overlaoding the player. I say this because the light bridge was hardly used after you were taught how to use it, maybe they didn't want to add too much too soon?

I think it might have been removed due to being a bit 'vague' concept; if you think about it, why would turrets be pulled in into such a vent without any problems whatsoever, while the player himself can just stand besides it without being pulled in? Also, the function of this vent has kind of been taken over by the excursion funnel. On the other hand, the E3 video showed a vent that would start at one location, and end at another. If they would have made that vent such that it would go diagonal, or move around a corner, it might have been useful in some way. But then again, the excursion funnel still includes that "functionality" when you portal it onto ledged surfaces.
So in that way I can actually understand why valve might have left it out.

Maybe it was just a concept level to indicate the craziness of the finished product. Both movies and games have stuff like this that you see in the trailer, but never actually makes it in the end. Like The Taxidemist demo from Heavy Rain.

Anyway, I finished Portal 2 last night. It's wonderful to finally play a really smart game again.

For a game that short, adding some game play mechanic wouldn't hurt. And i felt like the final row of test with deathly, was a bit short. There not a lot of puzzle that mix all the mechanic, and it's not really difficult for a final test. Portal 1 was really challenging in the last test chambers.

And the light bridge is really used in the coop story. It's better to used it with 4 portal :)

I noticed this as well, but I suppose they found that the diversity tubes were an awkward puzzle device and decided to nix the idea.

They had delayed the game several times as it is. They obviously didn't have enough time, and decided not to put an unfinished element into the game.

A number of the chambers that were shown in the trailers actually did appear in the game, simply reskinned, or edited slightly. For example, the chamber which demonstrates the repulsion gel was actually used, but instead of used in the first act, as it appeared in the trailer, it appeared in the second, presumably not to spoil the fact that you visit the old areas of Aperture, as it would raise a number of questions and theories about the plot. The other chambers I'm guessing weren't included in the game because, quite frankly, Portal 2 is a puzzle game, and if Valve gave us the answers to the puzzles, they would be electrocuted it would sort of ruin the purpose.

Also, the game honestly wasn't all that short. I played through the singleplayer in about seven or eight hours, and while I am yet to play the co-op, I have heard that again it is about that length. So I am sorry, but approximately fourteen hours is not a short game.

And while you haven't mentioned it, I do want to address the complaint it isn't worth the price. I live in Australia, and normally pay one hundred, to one hundred and ten dollars for a new game. On Steam, Portal 2 cost forty five USD. And at the time, it cost less than that, due to the AUD being worth more than the USD.

Anyway. I'm certain that someone will create custom maps which include some of the beta maps shown in the trailers. I've already played a custom map for the original Portal which included the Pneumatic Diversity Vent, which was released well before Portal 2 came out. Plus, Valve has said they'll be releasing Portal 2 editing tools, so if you really missed those maps, I'm sure you'll be able to get your fix soon enough.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of it. This is a source game after. We're pretty much guaranteed a tidal wave of content coming at us the next few years.

That Taxidemist level became a dlc for heavy rain I think. So mabye level with the vent for portal 2 will be released at some later point as a free dlc.
