I'm not sure that analogy really works. Charging for armor customization in Halo: Reach would be charging for a feature that was standard in the previous titles and would therefore be completely wrong.

What Valve has done is ADDED a feature and have decided to charge for it. Character customization and gestures was not advertised in the marketing for the game; nobody is getting ripped off here because nobody went into the game EXPECTING to be able to do that stuff.
Nope, still stands. The previous Valve titles had a hat store. And the 'hat store' was advertised beforehand, to my knowledge.
So wait, the Mann-conomy was that came around a few months ago was advertised before people bought Team Fortress 2?

Between going around to every post on this matter and spewing stuff about other people being fanboys and saying some ridiculously stupid things like this you really aren't doing well against the argument that the people angry about Day 1 DLC

Hint: this isn't even close to the Day 1 DLC that people had originally gotten up at arms about, its just that now a few idiots are running around applying it to everything without any logical consideration

This is just like that time when Blizzard put op a DLC that gave you a mini pet.
Oh the outcry, oh the terror.

Still, I got a cute kung-fu panda, and it doesn't change the gameplay what so ever.

This sort of stuff happens EVERYWHERE! But I guess some gamers are self entitled and ego central enough to realize that EXTRA's are not a new thing.
lets list a few:

-Additional memory on phones.
-additional functions on your car
-Additional channel for broadcast
-barbie's new clothes.

Even in software this is nothing new.
Collectors edition are doing this for ages.

People are pissed because they aren't getting cosmetic items for free.

The game is complete, they're bitching because they can't get fucking cosmetic items that have no bearings on the gameplay or story at all.

If fucking hats and costumes affect your enjoyment of the main game, you really need to rethink your priorities.

is not ripping people off in any way as it is entirely cosmetic.
You think charging someone up to 10% of the price of the full game for a single 'shop item' isn't a rip off? Forget whether it's voluntary or not, that isn't what defines if something's a shitty deal or not.
Would I pay for it? Hell no, it's a stupid price.

However, things are only worth as much as people will pay for them. If loads of people buy it, then clearly it is not too expensive. If people don't buy them because they feel they are too much then Valve will be forced to lower the price or lose out.

I could care less about DLC. Day 1 or day 50.
Couldn't care less. You couldn't care less. If you "could care less" then that means you care.

You're right, it was a terrible analogy. The rear parking sensors actually change the way your car works in some small way. It's more like paying $5000 for a car and then complaining about not getting some wicked awesome flame stickers to put on the side. Derp.
If you'd paid for a good paint job and then you didn't get one, then yeah, that's a reasonably good analogy.
No, I'm not talking about the paint job, I'm literally taking about fucking stickers. That's what this is. The game looks prettier than hell already, so the good paint job is there. If you choose to customize it further, as a six-year-old girl might do with her Barbie, good on you I suppose. Me? I'll take the fire-red Ferrari as it is.
Fire is actually orange.

seeing as the day one dlc is just some skins and hats for multiplayer and not a map pack or anything i see no reason to complain.

I'm entitled to be irate if I'd spent £30 (or more) on a game and then find that there's £28 more of stuff that I wasn't allowed. It's a slap in the face. Valve used to be the flagship developer for PC, now its image is well and truly sullied.
I hate you so much right now. In Australia I've seen new copies of Portal 2 going for like $90-100, and unless there has been some radical shift no-one noticed, I thought our dollar was going pretty strong in the international market.

In case you haven't guessed, I'm going to be doing a lot of exploring next week (I have a week holiday) to find a better price.

Steam has a much better price of about 50$, and I bought it for 45$ when it was still in pre-order.

Have not played the second one but the first one took me just over an hour to beat. I then spent about 2-3h messing around for achievements and the challenges. I doubt the second one will be much longer than that.

1 HOUR?
ON THE FIRST RUN?

What are you, some kind of robot?

And for most people, the SP campaign lasted about 7-8 hours.

Don't take my word for it, but apparently a large portion of the trolls are part of a group from 4chan just bombing the score for the hell of it.

.......

*Sigh*

Really?

REALLY?

If you knew ANYTHING about 4chan (Not referring to the lot of them, actually, just the Video game section) it would be that the majority of them love Gabe Newell, they love everything about the bastard, trashing his company would be the LAST thing they would do.

I mean good god you sound like Stanley woo, 91 bad reviews on a game doesnt mean that you can blame 4chan for it, it means you screwed up.

Steam tells me that I've played 3 hours now and I don't think that I've even played through half of the game, co-op not included. So far it's been one of the best games I've played in the last two years.
As for the day one DLC, it's unusual for Valve to do that and I don't really get why they did it besides the obvious money argument but since it's only cosmetic, I couldn't care less about that.

Dont mean to sound rude, but if you are a half-competent person, it should take you 4-5.

And thats still unacceptable.

Any single player campaign that is under 20 that ISINT for an fps is too short in my book.

Eh I didn't find it that hard. I was playing lot's of games at the time and was super persistent. I found the game pretty fun even though it was short and easy. Awesome concept.

I'm waiting on a sale to get the second one. I don't have as much time for games atm anyway.

Is it a major improvement over the first?

The issue with grammar and spelling almost made me have an instant reaction to hit the "Back" button. Also, why does the rating matter to you? Seriously, if you like the game then this isn't an issue.

Wow, rating complaining is like the new "Am I the only one" threads. By that I mean that people over use it and don't realise it pissed people off.

Looking over some of the metacritic reviews many are clearly trolls. Others however could very well be people who just have a poor grasp how to express themselves or don't care to.

Looking at 4chan's /v/ they are trolling each other over Portal 2 and pirating the game, any claim made in the reviews is mirrored over there. Except the more reasonable complaints and figures.

I am suprised. That I haven't seen anyone make a comment saying that Valve is a troll with brains. Keep in mind this is day one. Could be a joke towards companys that do release day 1 DLC. Or it might be real DLC thats only cosmetic and pointless yet you can still get it if you want. Valve still released a good game IMO.

Funny how people substitute 'troll' for 'someone who doesn't think what I think'.
Actually I find it funny that the OP calls them trolls without having played the game himself. So he says that the 'trolls' are wrong without being able to judge it by himself. Thank you sir, I agree with you fully. Not everyone on the internet is a troll, someone does have different opinions than me.
