I'm entitled to be irate if I'd spent £30 (or more) on a game and then find that there's £28 more of stuff that I wasn't allowed. It's a slap in the face. Valve used to be the flagship developer for PC, now its image is well and truly sullied.

Note my response in the DLC backlash thread. There's zero DLC available that adds actual content. So you must be a real fashionista (or however you spell that stupid term) in order to consider purely cosmetic items 50% of the game's content. Ridiculous.

Could you refresh my memory as to what this day 1 DLC is?
the only thing i've seen was the extra skin for buying the potato sack, surely thats not what everyone is on about?

Day 1 DLC is when on the day that a game is released, there is downloadable content for it which must be purchased separately. People generally get pissed because there's usually no reason that the content couldn't have been put on the disc in the first place. ESPECIALLY irritating in cases like Bioshock 2, where the DLC actually WAS on the game disc, and you have to purchase a code to unlock it.

You think charging someone up to 10% of the price of the full game for a single 'shop item' isn't a rip off? Forget whether it's voluntary or not, that isn't what defines if something's a shitty deal or not.

Would I pay for it? Hell no, it's a stupid price.

However, things are only worth as much as people will pay for them. If loads of people buy it, then clearly it is not too expensive. If people don't buy them because they feel they are too much then Valve will be forced to lower the price or lose out.

Hey, I'm not basing this on personal opinion here. I saw a picture of a thread on 4chan related to this. I know very well what 4chan's general opinion of Valve is, but it doesn't change the fact that in any group not everyone agrees with the general opinion.

Anyone considered that the people who play and are affected by these violent games may have a subconscious view that - if its in a game it must be ok..... these hideous games should be banned and its time that parents went back to being involved with what their kids are doing and say no to what is clearly unacceptable in a civilised society.

i think that some people have been brought up on these violent games think they have about 4 or 5 lives as in a computer game themselves. plus he was probably brought up in a war torn country before his family came here and where did he get a sub machine gun in the first place

Actually I find it funny that the OP calls them trolls without having played the game himself. So he says that the 'trolls' are wrong without being able to judge it by himself. What part of 90% of these 0/10 reviews are simply complaining about "Day 1 DLC" that doesn't exist could you not comprehend? Nobody is saying the game is bad [well some are, but frankly if they think the game is bad they must hold impossible standards], they're simply complaining that they have to pay for a few useless co-op skins...

I beat the game in about 2 and a half hours.
But then I was trying to beat it as fast as possible, I will play though again slowly while exploring because that's how I get enjoyment out of games.

Well, I'm hardly surprised at this point.

I wouldn't buy a Halo game to begin with. And besides, that's a game that you'll be playing online primarily, with several different people in every new match. This is a 7 or 8 hour long co-op campaign that you'll likely only play through once or twice. Do you really give half a shit about ONE other person seeing your non-standard robot? If so, that person's decision of whether not to have sex with you better be hinging on the matter.

OT : No, i don't think people should ***** about day one DLC. Yes, i think we all agree review scores are outdated but that each point does have some validity in terms of value and developer integrity.

I dont get why anyone would WANT the hats and all that crap. Took me and a friend 4 hours to complete co-op and well.. that was it... theres no challanges or extra levels to go through. Nothing to really get good use out of the store items. Not great replayability. Would possably play the co-op maybe another time or two but theres nothing to keep you coming back to it.

find all the easter eggs
get achievements
buy cosmetic changes, which can be acquired via earning achievements, so this can just be ruled out for people who think with portals

ok so i'm on meta critic and i'm looking though the reviews for portal 2. and two things strike me, first of all people are saying the game took the "3 hours to beat", i mean i haven't played it yet (i inted to buy it when i have the funds) but surley they must just be lying. the amount of content can not be able to wizzed though in three hours. and secondly i found people were judging it on the offers coming with the game, such as the day one DLC and they were not properly juding the game purley the controvercy around it. surely this is just people being ridiculos.

Took me about 5 hours for single player, and 8 for multi. - both first time round, and I'm sure I could cut it down.

Can't wait to try the coop mode.
Everything about this game is fantastic, its "Portal Perfect" of course.
The end literally made me jump with excitement. Great game, for once the reviewers are right.

3. It's not 3 hours. Not even close. But they do have a (slightly) legitimate complaint in the case of Day 1 DLC.

It's a very slight complaint. Certainly not worth a 0 score (A couple even gave 0 purely for the Potato Sack thing, which makes no sense to me, no one forced yo to buy heavily discounted indie games), but it's not like they are with holding the ending from people, it's purely a microtransaction model where you can buy hats. You can do that in TF2, I don't remember that getting zero-bombed. My point being it's just an incredibly petty reason to hate a game.

Valve is a business, and a business needs to make money.Hell, the more money Portal 2 makes, the more money they get for whatever their next project is.

There is not ONE of these that my experience with the game does not flat out contradict. I've been playing for around 4 hours and I'm guessing that I'm only around half way through (3 hours my ass), the graphics are pretty damn nice, and some of the puzzles are actually pretty damn challenging. The label of "unoriginal" is complete bullshit. It's probably just idiots who saw 2 at the end of the name and simply can't understand that Valve can actually make sequels well.

The problem with the people who ***** about Portal's length is that they did not time it the first time through. Everyone played the game and dug it, then when they went back and played it again they paid more attention and it took an hour. The same shit is going to happen with Portal 2 because it's still primarily a puzzle game. I can rattle off a list of games on Kongregate that are so super short because I can breeze through all the levels in under five minutes.

Furthermore, the whole hat nonsense is stupid. They didn't advertise hats as a selling point, it wasn't anything anybody was eagerly anticipating. It's just a bonus extra that is kinda cute for those who love TF2. Of all the problems with Modern gaming this is not a big deal.
