Doom. It looks to be nothing more than a box of hastily assembled jigsaw pieces trying too hard. I could be wrong, and the difficulty level could significantly change number and type of enemies. It might be suicidal to run around hitting the QTE button in the middle of combat on anything but the lowest difficulty setting, and it might be properly fast paced and large scale at higher difficulties. However, I seriously doubt it.
thats not QTE. that meelee only perform when enemy is stun.

Semantics, definition of. It doesn't change the fact that it's very un-doomy. Now, the trailers appeared to have god more on apart from the scripted death, so it might not be quite that bad. Maybe. But that seemed to be an awful sparse amount of enemies.
Plus the pre-fabbed animations made it seem like it was more focused on showing you how badaas Doomguy is , instead of letting you slaughter mooks the old fashioned way and feel like a badass

The game you like the most will be massively overrated. Yes, YOU. The one reading this right now.

I mean, I'm finding it hard to choose. I'm hardly hearing about anyone getting excited for any of these games, or at least I don't see people talking about it. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough or paying attention.

Doom I suppose, though the consensus for most people I know seems to be that they're not hyped up for it either. Certainly curious to see how it turns out, but not overly enthusiastic.

...No....NO! NOT KILLER INSTINCT SEASON 3 ;A;

That was the only reason I was going to upgrade to Windows 10!

I feel like they're pushing expectations too far, and when it comes out, people will be disappointed.
It's an inevitable thing, just like how Icarus was burned when he tried reaching the sun.
Plus, I haven't seen anything too interesting. Sure, it looks pretty, there is space, but are there things to do in ALL of that space?

I doubt I'll buy it, but I feel it'll crash. If it does well, good for it. My opinion of it will increase... well, depending what I think of the final gameplay.
I second this, while I do find it interesting they are going to make an entire ingame universe, I am wondering how long before they'll start re-using assets for the aliens and planets, there is only so much memory you can have for those kinda things, even if you are generating them somewhat randomly.

I think a lot of the people here have been burned by being too hype for stuff before so they might be a little more cautious now after the several upsets over the last few years like AC: Unity and Halo 5, etc.

I mean, personally, I think that game will do pretty well but I never really was too attached to that kind of shooter, it was kinda before my time, Hell, first time I played Doom was a Turn-based RPG version on my mobile phone. (It's a lot better then you'd think)

Whatever TellTale's new game is, because that is the single most overrated dev company going right now. They're the gaming equivalent of those mockbuster movies meant to trick old ladies who thinks their grandkids want to see Transmorphers or Atlantic Rim.

Whatever shitty new IP any AAA publisher will try to push this year. Think of it as the Watchdogs of 2016.

While I do agree they are overrated at times, I'm going to say that more in the sense of them being "Award Turkeys" rather then Mockbusters.
Mockbusters don't get shit tons of awards now do they? :p

Telltale games are hardly games at all. they are just interactive movies. waste of time

Over...rated? I have no idea how to form a negative opinion on a potentially positive mass opinion of something that cannot yet be judged. That kind of logic folds my brain inside out.
It appears a few people are confusing overrated with not living up to hype. Not living up to hype is a general opinion that considers a game to have overstated itself, whereas overrated is a personal opinion that the general opinion of a game is too positive for your tastes.

I'll have to echo those who've said No Man's Sky.
Despite sounding like my kind of game, I haven't been able to pin down what it's about. At all.
Procedurally generated space, planets, environs and ecology?
And you ..fly/walk around doing...what, exactly?
Is it an engine or a game?

Games which are overrated tend to be the one which are unexpectedly underwhelming. Thus, it's hard to pick them out beforehand. Most of the big releases so far are looking solid or are already pretty clearly taking a shit in the corner.

Ah this is the thread for people who want to identify themselves as super edgy by claiming games that haven't even come out yet are somehow 'overrated'.

Overrated is already meaningless as a criticism, applying it to games which haven't actually been rated or even played by anyone just devalues it further.

I swear to god overrated has become the millennial's ultimate buzzword. The quality of the Escapist's community discussions have been taking a massive nose dive, and this is a magnus opus shit heap of a thread. This knee-jerk shallow cynicism is what outsiders used to stereotype the Escapist and its members as being, and now it's a stereotype that has sadly become true.
Complaining about cynic thread while going into thread of there own free will to make a cynical post (will using word like "magnus opus), the mark of a true intellectual! I raise my top hat to you m'sir. Do forgive us, we shall stay out of your way, no doubt to go and revolutionize the world or save poor starving orphan.

Holy fucking shit. People, it's just a thread. Calm down. Take a walk

As for most overrated, I do think Mass Effect will be praised for essentially not having a shit ending

Overrated is a term that doesn't even depend of the game. It means "people enjoy this game too much". Who are you to put boundaries of what other people can enjoy? Only duches do that!

OT: Doom.

Yeah over rated doesnt really work as a criticism. Its really just a shorthand of I did not like X as much as Y did or rather I feel it is not worthy of the merits it has received by X,Y,Z. Its a purely subjective term as far as I am concerned. Much better just to explain the reasons you dont like something or have mixed feelings about something and leave out the term over rated all together. People get less offended then as at least you have taken the time to offer some points rather than going yeah its overrated. Gotta say though I have been guilty of saying a game is over rated before as well...probably because im just to lazy/stupid/ignorant to offer a proper critique of why I think that.

Whatever Ill play along in the spirit of the thread I think the most over rated game will be Star Citizen (Is that out this year?) otherwise ill go with Mass Effect 4.
