With the potential it has, I'm going with Arkham City. AA was amazing and it seems they are correcting all the minor problems it had and making the game much more darker than AA and making the combat more fun and varied.

I have no hope in Skyrim winning simply because it 'feels' too niche. It has the potential to be the best game of the year though.

This leaves us with either Mass Effect 3 or Uncharted 3. Both games with a huge following that appeal to a larger number of gamers and not just hardcore.

I will say Mass Effect 3 because I prefer that genre.

Yes. Absolutely yes.

On a more serious note, I think InFamous 2 has a shot, the first one was awesome, and this one looks even better. Also, I have high hopes for Arkham City and Resistance 3, but my final vote would have to be with InFamous 2.

How could it not be Skyrim?
And the thread is over before it even started... :p

Could also be SW: TOR, depending on how you look at things (could view an MMO as more or less important, depending on your PoV)

Either Portal 2, Arkham City or Dues Ex: Human Revolution.

Or Half Life 2: Episode 3, if we're lucky.

If Skyrim can implement a decent combat system and a better paced core story, I'm all in.

Otherwise; ME3.
I agree. I absolutely loathed the combat system in Morrowind and Oblivion and that being a major part of the game... Great story was also ruined by the incomprehensibly fugly NPCs and their dodgy accents.
I'm the least qualified person to talk about anything Elder Scrolls related, but as good as Skyrim looks, it's not top of my list to play.

Though I do think it has a serious chance of GOTY.

Fairly sure it's gonna be Skyrim, but I do have hopes for Mass Effect 3 as well.

I dunno about the industry, because they're known for some weird decisions, but I know what MY GOTY list will look like:

L.A. Noire
The Witcher 2

...
...
...

Batman: Arkham City
Mass Effect 3
Uncharted 3

Apparently, I'm the only person on the gaming planet who doesn't give a damn about Portal 2 and Skyrim

I love the Uncharted series, but I don't want three to win Game of the Year.

It probably will though. I seriously doubt Skyrim has enough mass appeal to win.

Holding up the flag for Deus Ex 3.
Yes, it's always stupid to hold up hopes for franchises whose sequel already trashed itself spectaculary, but if they keep up that design, are capable of keeping the choice-system as good as it is now, bring back an augemntation-system that really feels like something character-defining AND provide an interesting plot...too good to hope for.

Skyrim is quite possible, though after Oblivion...and it's really close to grinding the same thing to death, given the number of programs and the timespan in which they appeared.

Portal 2, despite everything, is the least likely to be THAT game, at least in my eyes. As Yahtzee said "Yes, it's only 3 hours long, but that's a good lenght for it." It just reeks too much like bland franchise-milking to me, and hands up for everyone who sees "The cake is a lie"-jokes and at least two "Still alive"-songs coming.
Though it'd be poetic if Portal 2 became the biggest Portal-jerk off of them all.

As for ME3 and SW: TOR.....yeah...the latter one probably sacks it for being the "new" Star Wars. And for both goes....I think I kinda see the path Bioware is walking down right now. Proove me wrong, but DA 2 and the TOR-trailer are so going along with my fears in that matter...
