I have no preference actually, I really find very little difference. I mean really, if you are so nitpicky that you let the tiny differences make you hate one over the other then there really is no helping you. although I will give the PS3 cntrlr this, better d-pad.

If I were you, I'd go with the 360 controller. It just feels better in one's hands, based on personal experience and the experience of others.

Ergonomically, I find the xbox controller to be far, far more comfortable. That said, even though I have ready access to both, I only use the PS3 controller with my laptop. For some unknown reason, wireless xbox controllers cannot be mated to a PC and PS3 controllers are easy to mate wirelessly (as mentioned in an earlier post, I assume there are other brands of drivers).

If I've been playing PS3 for a while, PS3. If I've been playing Xbox 360 for a while, 360. You get accustomed to the controller it's the transition that is awkward.

So, seeing as I can get either one for about the same price, what are your thoughts?

(Thought of doing this like a poll, but I'm looking more for proper argument than just controller popularity to be honest)
The PS3 controler.

I hate XBox controllers. They always feel to big and clunky to me.

I have small hands, so the small, sleek PS3 controller is more comfortable, and more immersive because it is easier to forget I'm holding it.

Although, another good question might be what is the last game controller you used? Similar is usually better (I like the PS3 controller because I got used to the PSX controller, and the PS2 controller). I realize from the OP that it's probably a computer controller, but if you have name and brand (or a link to a picture) it might help us give better advice besides what we personally prefer.

The PS3 controller's too puny, feels like it wasn't made with the adult male demographic in mind. 360's better if only because it's bigger.

Though, if you could somehow find a gamecube controller for the PC, I'd recommend that, the gamecube had the best controller design that I'd ever used.

I prefer the 360 controller in almost every aspect. The d-pad is shit, but everything else I like so much better. The placement of the left thumbstick, the curve of the thumbsticks, and especially the triggers. I don't know who decided that the PS3 controller should have the curve going the wrong way of a normal trigger, but I hate it no matter what type of game. If it wasn't for the Dual Trigger snap-on things to fix it, I probably would have found a way to use 360 controllers on a PS3 by now.

Plus 360 controllers are so much simpler to get working on a PC than a PS3 one. But you said you seem to know how to make either work with little problem, so I guess that doesn't mean much to you.

The PSX and the PS2 controller are the same thing. PSX is a PS2, but with added DVR features and released only in Japan. PSX =/= PS1.

Yes they can: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_cp_e_1

The people that swear the 360 controller is better played it for a year straight without any other option, so of course they grew used to it to the point that the ps3 controller seemed off
Nooope, you couldn't be further from accurate there. I had a PS1 and a PS2 and played them both a lot, and after spending just a little time with the 360 controller, I loved it. It had nothing to do with never touching a PS3 controller (which is pretty much the same thing as the PS2 and PS1 controller) until after using a 360 controller.

PS3. I never liked the 360 controllers. They feel clunky, have quite horrid battery life, and the R1/L1 equivalents feel awkward. It has better triggers, but that is about it.

And am I the only one who noticed how much they look like Dreamcast controllers. Same buttons in the same place with switched colors. The underside is exactly the same minus where the wire comes out (the bottom is no place for a wire). Add a right joystick and switch the VMU thing for the Middle button and there you go.
While I am going in conspiracy mode, anyone else notice how the Dreamcast used a version of Windows and died not long before the XBox was released. Suspicious, it is.

360 for everything BUT! fighting games...

the 360 controller is more comfy for my hands. the layout is perfect.. but it lacks a good D-Pad.

PS3 controllers are GREAT for fighting games..or anything that uses the D-Pad..

but overall? i'd go with the 360.
But the better d-pad of the PS3 controller doesn't matter if you get a good stick (and why wouldn't you?).

The 360 controller is way better for controlling the kinds of games these types of controllers are good for to begin with.

OT: while im thinking about it, I really dislike how , at least on the DS3 controllers, that if you set the controller down it has a tendency to hit one of the trigger buttons, (L2/R2)
The snap on concave triggers are basically essential for PS3, they prevent what you describe. But I find it handy as some games you want concave, other games you want the trigger more receded and tucked under.

especially the triggers

I would say the PS2 controller is the best, but for your case, get a 360. PS3, I find, has a better button positioning, and is the right size for my hands, but the L2 and R2 buttons are just messed up. They feel wrong and get pressed at the slightest fart from a butterfly in China.

Aww, I don't know having never held as PS3 controller ever.
I should really rectify that one day.
Maybe...

I prefer the PS3 controller, The triggers are terrible but they can be easily fixed with snap ons that work really well. the analog placement works better (IMO) because you usually use both of them at the same time, and on the 360 running forwards can be a pain because of how far you have to push the analog stick up. The face buttons are shaped better and slip less on the PS3 controller. the D-pad is undoubtedly better on the PS3, the only thing that the 360 has better is the shape, which does feel better on the 360.

I like the 360 paddle for gaming but the PS3 setup is MUCH easier to use while driving a robot IMO.
