To those saying that the creatures aren't vampires: vampire is a generic term that refers to any creature that feeds through vampirism, i.e. on life energy/blood. Legends of such creatures have existed for millennia, through almost every civilisation, with each legend differing slightly, except regarding the vampiric feeding, obviously. The idea of the refined, charismatic vampire only really appeared with the short story 'The Vampyre' in 1819, before that there were creatures like the Romanian Strigoi, African Adze and ancient Babylonian Lilitu, all of which are vampires, just not the type popularised by novels like Dracula.

What do you get if you mix Mad Max with Deadwood and Blade? Well you might end up with something a little like the upcoming movie Priest, where well-armed clergymen fight monstrous vampires in a post-apocalyptic world which shares more than a few similarities with the Old West.
Sounds better than Twilight. Sold!

In all honesty I doubt I'll go see it, might be the sort of thing to rent on DVD though. I'm fed up with vampires and what not. Trying to make them original just seems like a cliche in itself these days. Can't we find another reason for horribly mutated deadly agile creatures of the night?

Whatever happened to originality? Why do people keep using cliches like vampires or werewolves?
cliches? their monsters, like aliens and bigfoot, it's something to write about and something most people know. not a cliche by any means.
Aliens are more of a group of monsters that can take many forms. Look at all the types there are. Bigfoot is another cliche, but not tot he degree of vampires and werewolves.

When fantasy settings begin to all have the same monsters and themes, imagination has left. I don't mind having monsters that suck blood or people that transform into animals unwillingly, but when those are added it's always a vampire or werewolve. And they pretty much stick to the same tired archetypes.

Looks horribly corny. And of course it's in 3D.

Ah well. Might make for a decent leave-your-brain-at-the-door flick. I've certainly seen worse.

Werewolves and vampires are creatures that are etched into public conciousness. Also different sources use them differently so you can't really call them a cliche, though cliche doesn't usually refer to creatures.

Because everybody knows and at least has a passing appreciation for these, compared to the other, more obscure monsters.

Why do people keep bastardizing vampires? I see no one complaining about how these vampires don't have eyes and look more like some weird hairless dog things.

Then again, vampire folklore is ever changing so I guess hairless dog things could become the new vampire, though I will miss the suave vampires (who don't sparkle).

Paul Bettany playing a religious figure in a post apocalyptic setting?

Eh, Legion was okay. Oh, they did it again? With Vampires? Actually, it sounds cool.

Yep, definately totally different from the original Korean Manga, but something tells me a Priest who sold his soul to a powerful demon to get revenge on a rogue angel wouldn't go over so well with North American Audiences. Unfortunately it also lacks the cool aesthetic of the comic and well... pretty much everything else... still looks like it might be worth a heckle.
And let's not forget that this is being CONVERTED to 3D so we have crappy 3D gimmickry to look forward to as well. I feel for Hyung if this is what they're doing to one of my favorite series.

At least SOMEBODY knows what they're talking about. Before you all make a judgement call or attempt to appear as if you know exactly what you're talking about... a little research into old lore and ancient myth may do you good.

It looked like a great popcorn flick right up until they stuck "3-D" on the end...

I consider them to be a cliche because they always follow the same stereotypes. They differ in the details, yes, but they still drink blood/get changed by the moon, turn others into them after biting, and are human. Yes, there are some that break these archetypes, but most do not.

Looks like it might be worth a watch. I, for one, am not too greatly bothered by 3D. There are plenty of bad ones, but some of them know how to do it properly (like Avatar).

Unless I hear the name 'Belmont' uttered during a trailer, I swearing off vampire movies for a while...
