I personaly don't like Pro Wrestling, but I don't think that it is bad. I also don't like most Kung Fu movies either and I am assuming that the majority of people who like wrestling probably like Kung Fu movies. These shows glamorize violence and that provides an outlet for some people. Not that there is anything wrong with gratuitous violence (I play the most violent video games), but I am amazed at the passion some people have towards Pro Wrestling. I have a friend who will stop himself just short of violence when discusing the sport.

(Apologies for taking over the thread, I was contemplating started a TNA thread so I thought I'd jump in on the conversation :D)

I'm really sorry that TNA has moved into a more WWE type of direction. When I was watching it, it was 90% wrestling, 10% story. That ratio has certainly changed, and it hasn't improved the performance at all, in my opinion...quite the contrary. Because, let's face it, with a few rare exceptions, the talent simply can't deliver with any kind of credibility. John Cena and Kevin Nash can do a promo like nobody's business, for sure, but Sanjay Dutt just can't get it done.

I was so happy when I saw some of the guys from ROH make it to TNA, because they are truly incredible athletes. The X Division is capable of putting on some really amazing performances...AJ Styles, Chris Sabin and Christopher Daniels in particular are really something special.

But really, stop using TNA as the WWE's old dumping ground, I beg you.
You're right about Sonjay not being a promo cutter, just like most. I am impressed with how well AJ has come on camera though. He used to suck BIG time when he'd try to talk. Now he can actually amuse folk on purpose.

Dumping is a great word when discussing Booker T (imo). Some of the talent that have jumped shit are worthy additions and most needed 'a new home' as WWE was never really their thing, they just got caught up in it some how (Christian & Rhyno for example).

I personally think Angle made the right move, WWE didn't want him to 'wrestle' as much and stick to simpler matches, politics this, legal rights that. No, he's not a TNA pure-blood, but he's worked his god-damn ass off in the company since he got there.

I mentioned him in another post, but to me, someone who never really belonged in the WWE and should be in TNA is Mr. Monday Night,.......Rob......Van.......Dam.

RVD in the X-Division. Tell me that wouldn't be insane! Not saying he should turn up and take over but he'd be a valuable asset for the company with his last however many years in the ring as a performer and he'd be great for training new and current younger talent 'his ways'.

Now I have a lot of respect for Booker T, but Mick Foley? Really? Unless he takes over for Don West he really doesn't belong anywhere near TNA. Same with Test, Goldust, Kip and B.G. James.

TNA needs to go back to the roots and realize why they became as popular as before. The answer is simple. The X Division. It wasn't Kurt Angle or Kevin Nash that made TNA, it was A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe (Although ever since he got the title I can't stand what a whiny little punk he's become)

Kip and BG, fair enough. But Test was just a one off and Goldust Dustin Rhodes is obviously the son of Dusty Rhodes who's pretty tight with JJ and all the TNA guys.

I'm still confused as to why Foley's here. Surely he'll throw a few punches but he'll hopefully not get into a full match. Unless it's just an all-out blood bath and he's there to take bump after bump.

ah, pro wreslting, my first love.
Well, here is why i like wreslting. At first i started watching when i was a kid, so i liked Rock and Austin and such.
But now what i like in wreslting is the athletic ability of the competitors. THat is why i much prefer to watch chikara to WWE. WWe can do some good things, but when it comes down to it Chikara is just far more win.
As for hardcore wrestling, itis really good if odne right.
Here are my fav wrestlers in wwe:
Morrison (love this guy)
Bourne, Edge, Dreamer, Santino (for the lolz he gives me), Jericho, COlons.

Chikara: QUACK!!!!!!!!!
Claudio, Sweet 'n' sour lary sweeney, los ice creams (for lolz), HYDRA, the colony, sexy chucky T, players uno and dos, stigma, gerard, COLIN!

I kind of preferred Samoa Joe before, when he never spoke. And, yes, I agree that Christian was a good addition, but while I respect Kurt Angle, I think it was a mistake to add him to the roster. He's simply TOO identifiable with WWE. I really felt like the entire tone changed when he came on board.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on Joe's pre-match promos. I don't mind if he's in the ring and he's pissed off about something though and has a good rant.

I can see why folk don't like Kurt in TNA. But IMO, he came in, ran with the strap for a year, made loads of people look in TNA's direction and raised it's profile. Now it's riding the high waves, Joe's got the belt and when they should have been happy riding the wave they had, they're just looking at expanding the same amount again and trying to take on the WWE.

They should use the money to laugh at the soap opera side of it and spend it promoting ALTERNATIVE wrestling, not WWE lite.

It can be, if you don't mind actual bodily violence. Watching pro wrestling can be like watching a greatly choreographed fight scene from a film without the disappointment of finding out everyone's using stunt doubles, wire work and CGI. The fact they do all that live and in front of an audience is impressive IMO.

I've watched it a bit. Not my cup of tea but the macho overacting was kinda entertaining.

NBO!!!!! MMA is not god at all. Pro wresltin tells a story, MMA does not. I like the theatrical story-telling aspect of wreslting.
The best wreslting for me usually has elements of lucha libre, some good technical wreslting, and just plain good scientific wreslting al-round, mixed in with some enjoyable characters and a good feud.

Any TNA fans in? Or just the WWE boys?

As a whole though, it's all going further downhill. TNA looked hopeful, but once at the top of the mountain of choices, they ran head first down that bad boy without seeing what they've done to their talent.

I boycotted WWE about a month after RVD came back from his "month off" and they didn't put him back where he was meant to be. Aswell as other factors beginning to stink, I decided to stop watching WWE.

I also boycotted TNA a few months ago because of that getting stale too. I stopped watching after the first Samoa Joe vs. Booker T (wtf is BT going here) match in BT's home town and only ended the boycott (as advised by my best friend) for the last PPV. It was,....okay.

It's better, but there's still WAY too much crap stuck in there. Internal promos for live shows, talent, video games and let's not forgot Don West's minutely reminder of the upcoming PPV. I'd guess there's about 30% wrestling in the 2 hour show. Only slightly better than WWE.
I have tried to watch TNa- but it is not bearable.

Pro-Wrestling tells a story that is forced. A fighter's real life in MMA is a story unto itself. People like Rorigo Nogueira and Fedor Emalienenko and Mirko CroCop don't need made up story lines to make them sound impressive because they are in real life.

Nogueira was ran over as a child, trapped under a truck, and nearly died. He spent years in a state of hospitalization before eventually gaining a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the title of current UFC heavyweight champion.

Fedor Emalienenko is such a good Sambo technician that he is the minister of the sport for all of Russia and has a civic duty imposed on him by his government to hold seminars and spread the name of the art across Russia and the world.

And Mirko CroCop holds a seat as the Croatian equivelant as a senator, along with being one of the most impressive knock out artists in the world.

But I don't wanna troll and talk garbage about wrestling, so I won't.

i used to really like pro wrestling, used to watch it religiously on monday, wed, thurs and sat nights

then came the montreal screw job, i remember watching it and saw how much bs it was and my interest in wwe started to wane at that point. i watched more wcw at that point, tho i had started to like the more anyways as they'd have more wrasslin then story and frankly the nWo was absolutely hilarious

then wcw got bought out and i was watching wwe for a bit, but frankly i got bored of it, the matches SUCKED and they never had anything good on the show. it was all a warm up for the next ppv

as for some kayfabe i miss the heel Jericho from the wcw days, he was so damn funny compared to the heel he played in wwe. especially the Dean Malenko fued he had.

I occasionally watch a minute or two of pro-wrestling here and there, and for the most part find it quite entertaining. I agree, the soap-story lines were better back when, but even now i have to tip my hat to those guys for being able to keep a straight face when enacting their roles. And, fake or not i would think it takes alot of talent to do the choreographed moves, i mean being able to do acrobatics like that when you clock in usually at no less than 250 pounds? And, actually probably known to fans of MMA, there is a gradual trickle of pro-wrestlers going into the MMA circuit, most notably Kurt Angle who admitted he had a chance to take up a career in the UFC when it started, but pro-wrestling simply made more money. Hell, one of the earliest UFC fighters, Ken Shamrock was a WWF star himself and his flair for drama (especially the stuff between him and Tito Ortiz) drew needed attention to MMA at the time... as for my favorite wrestlers, i always adored Mankind when he had Socko the sock puppet, particularly when he forced a defeated opponent to eat Socko, and the tragic drama when another wrestler killed Socko. *wipes eye* :p

Pro wrestling has recently been a great 2 hour time period I can use to work on homework. It's gone so downhill since the beginning of 05 it's scary. Even TNA has taken quite the drop as of late, I can't even keep it on for a few minutes. And you can't even blame it on Cena anymore, the whole product is in shambles.

I admit I watched a lot in the early 80's, mostly WCCW (pre WCW) and NWA, UWF, some AWA and WWF.

I enjoyed the WWE 'Attitude Era' (late 90's) and then fell away after the demise of WCW and stupidity of many of the angles WWF/E was forcing down our throats every few weeks until the next PPV. So many angles were rushed and belts changed hands so many times pro wrestling here in the states just seemed to lose it's luster.

I tried TNA when it first appeared about 5 years ago on the Wed $4.95 PPV's...it was 'okay', but still many angles seemed pretty bad.

I started getting back into TNA about 2.5 years when Panda Energy took over and they started at Universal Orlando. I really enjoyed the wrestling (back to its roots) and the angles had good pace. With some interjections of names like Christain Cage and Kurt Angle almost 2 years back, I was really enjoying TNA. I think they have soem great characters in Somoa Joe, AJ Styles and a few others....But recently the angles started to get silly again (thanks Vince Russo) and now there may be too many 'names' stealing the spotlight from the young guys (Booker, Nash, Sting...). It's nice to see those guys....but use on a limited basis, otherwise it's started to seem like WCW all over again before its demise.

It might just be because I didn't start watching until the later part of '05 and don't have fond memories of the "Attitude Era", but I'm a big WWE fan. Evan Bourne in particular is one guy that I'm really becoming a big fan of, he's like Mysterio on cocaine. I'll also watch TNA from time to time, but really, the announcers kill it for me.

Anyways, anybody else notice how friggin old the Undertaker has gotten? I just find it hilarious that they keep trying to push him as this unbeatable machine when he looks like he's going to crumble into dust and blow away at any moment.

Though I will say that he still has the coolest entrance.
