PS3 VS 360: Why the hate?

Bit of backstory: around my school, gaming is a big topic among me and the people i know, and a big thing that comes up a lot is the consoles themselves. I know that there is always the PC vs console thing (which seems stupid for me. i use PC for multiplayer games and console for single player games, it works pretty well) but what i dont get is why it seems that people beleive that 360 blows the PS3 out of the water. They are very equivalent consoles that only differ in minor things like a slightly superior multiplayer experience (which you pay for) or a blu ray player.

I personally have a PS3, wii, and a gaming PC, because it works well for me, but i constantly hear things from jerks i know about how much the 360 is better and how i am retarded for preferring ps3. I just dont get it.
PS: i had a 360 before, but the disc drive got screwed over within 3 months (all discs gave me the message that the disc could not be read, even with brand new games!)

I don't know. Console wars are supremely stupid. I play the 360 most simply because it has more games I'm interested in. I still play my Ps3 though.

well library is always a matter of personal preference: i would rather have god of war and 3d dot heroes (look it up, great game) then halo and gears of war, but thats just me. only 360 game i really want is Mass Effect 1 (love 2 on ps3) but if i wanted i could just get it on steam.

Yeah they're dumb.
Lots of people can only afford one new-gen console and they want other consolegamers to know who made the "right" decision.

At any case, I'm mucho happy with my PS3, though I'm a sadpanda I don't have a 360.

People like to fight. Look at war, religions, and reality tv. At least no one has been beaten to death over the console war...yet.

Because if you admit that the other one is better then your purchase could be wrong and potentially you could be missing out. If you convince yourself that the other side sucks ass then obviously you're not missing out for not having bought the other one.

Honestly, the idea of console wars in general annoys me. I have a PS3 and a 360 and ever since I got my PS3 people have been telling me I should sell it so that I can buy ANOTHER 360, though why I would need to 360s they never bothered to explain to me. Anyway though I find both consoles to be about equal. I'll buy exclusives for both and if a multiplatform game comes out I'll just flip a coin over if I should buy the PS3 or 360 version.

i find it interesting that everyone just ignores the wii despite its unbelievable sales and it is a console...not a very good one IMO but a console none the less.

anyway, i got an xbox because after trying the ps3 controller, i discovered it had a lifespan of about 20 minutes due to my arthritis and small tolerance to shit like that little marsh-mellow trigger thing and the tiny gamepad, jesus, i am getting sidetracked.

anyway, the console wars is merely people realizing that they have just spent a large sum of money (depends on employment situation) and must therefore defend their purchase with everything at their disposal, thats my belief on this stupid situation anyway.

I have wii, ps3, and xbox 360.

I enjoy playing my 360 the most, but PS3 has good games too, so I play it ever once in a while.

Can't we just chalk this up under "People are stupid"?

Granted, that's probably not the answer. However I feel that examining this issue in any depth would make me stupider purely through association.

Whats easier: Pushing someone off a stool, or pulling them up to a standing position on top of the stool?

Consoles are expensive. Some people have a desire to justify their purchase of an expensive item by believing it's the best, and getting angry when somebody else has a different opinion.

Slightly is a bit of an understatement:

PS3 has no player controls, so you can't avoid people who play like idiots. You'd think this isn't a huge deal, but once you get constantly matched with the same team killing douchebag game after game after game, suddenly not being able to tell the system to avoid matching you with that person is a huge disadvantage.
PS3 has no report feature unless the player sends you a message; otherwise you have to navigate the labyrinth of Sony's support pages online to find a report form, and once you finally report someone, nothing happens.
PS3 doesn't even have a 2 person cross game chat so you can just voice chat with one person while playing different games, let alone party chats.
PS3 doesn't let you invite friends to your game or ask to join a friend's as a normal function of the XMB; you have to use whatever controls are built into the games by the developers. This can be a pain in the ass compared to the simple "invite to game" button on the 360's in-game dashboard.
PS3's store doesn't update consistently each week like the Xbox Live Marketplace does. Sometimes it updates early in the afternoon. Sometimes it updates late in the evening. Sometimes it updates a day early. It's a mess.

So yeah. My thoughts on the subject after having used both Xbox Live and PSN extensively is that Xbox Live is vastly superior to PSN. Trying to play Red Dead Redemption on PS3 last year was when I decided that RDR would be the last multiplatform game with mulitplayer I would buy for PS3 until Sony gets its act together and actually improves PSN instead of just throwing nonsense like PS+ at us.

Although now, with the way Sony is always treating their customers with setting up a feature request blog that is constantly ignored, removed features, lawsuits, and the CEO flaming us, I'm not likely to buy anything multiplatform for the PS3 regardless of what they do to PSN. Happy customers are repeat customers, Sony. Ignored and insulted customers are spending their money elsewhere.
