I love both growing up, and though the PS1 was more graphic powered, N64 had better games including the HIGHEST RATED game of all time Zelda:OoT,as well as Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64 and more. So i have to give it to N64

PS1

What can the N64 boast? 64bit graphics which many games didnt make use of, and about 5-8 GOOD titles, compared to PS1's list of 100 or so GREAT titles and 500+ average titles.

You'll notice Nintendo just gave up, they made the gamecube then just accepted they aren't able to compete in the console market for all audiences. So they were clever enough to market a console mostly for families and party games. And the Wii has done quite well.

WHAT IS A MAN!?!

A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS!

BUT ENOUGH TALK!

HAVE AT YOU!

Best game of that generation. Period.

So far as I see it, the PlayStation was designed for a man with only one friend, wheras the N64 was seemingly designed to get as many people on it as possible. The Playstation also was all around weaker and any good games that came out often came out on PC too.

I always wondered to myself how on earth did it survive? It wasn't even that much of a looker.

N64 - Zelda, Turok, Pokemon stadium 1 & 2

PsOne - Grandia I

Grandia for me is the one PsOne game that utterly trounces the N64; the n64 had good games, but i have yet to see one that can outmatch the quality of the story and gameplay of the first grandia game.

I would say the N64 hands down. It gave you the multiplayer experience you could only get at a LAN without the need for all the computers (and considering I was eight when I got it, I doubt I could afford a gaming computer). I still consider Perfect Dark to be the best FPS of that console generation. Rare was in its prime in this day, and made some of the best games ever seen.

I had more fun with the N64 partly due to my age. Not sure which I would like now, but I can tell you that nothing topped Crash 2.

I didn't own either, unfortunately, but I'll have to go with the N64 because it had Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, the original Super Smash Bros., and generally a higher percentage of good games.

Of course, Castlevania was obviously better on the PS1.

Technically each system had it's advantages. The N64 was theoritically faster, but oddities in the video arcitecture resulted in visuals similar to those achieved when taking photographs through a thin layer of vasoline. The PSOne CD based media could hold far more data than a cartidge from the N64, but with the CD came dramatically increased load times.

From a personal perspective, the PSone was probably the better system to support thanks to the absolutley massive library of games and higher incidence rate of "good" games. The N64 had plenty of classics (and was the system I owned at the time) but good games were rare - you'd have a gem or two a year and that was about it.

Interesting dialogue, but terrible voices. Seriously, what's up with that? Is the japanese one any better, if there is one?

Anyway, still one of the best Metroidvanias, and not because it defines said genre. I still feel that the whole inverted castle thing was only there to extend gameplay without actually have to build more scenery. Kinda like the original Halo at some sections.

Man, screw both of those systems it's all about 3D0 and Sega Saturn. Sadly doomed yet ambitiously inspiring, and 3D0 had a kick ass library, even if it was small.

All I had was a N64, but I still play it on occasion. Also, guys in my dorm will get together to play Super Smash Bros, so I prefer the N64 to the PS1.

Well they both had a nice list of games but for me the PS did better.

NG4 had Golden Eye, Zelda OoT + Majoras Mask, Mario aaaaand some other games.

PS had, Tekken 3, Final Fantasy 7,8,9, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Star Ocean series(I like them a lot) and more.

But it boils down to taste.
